The socks and sandals method: Linus made it to the Forbes list

Misanthrope

Your boy @LinusTech is officially on the Forbes list...for Top Influencers of 2017 but hey, it's still the Forbes list:

https://www.forbes.com/top-influencers/2017/tech-business/#3b7768fa5a28

image.png.042087c66087bb10e51d03824f7434c9.png

Now that he's diversifying into Floatplane youtube better watch out for an outright platform competitor amirite?

Anyway next stop: Times magazine, I'm calling it right now....but it might take maybe another decade but still.

Poor Johnathan, someone is reallllll lazy for not finding a picture for him.

Justine's gorgeous. Frankly other than her and MK I don't know who the rest are (though I recognize some names by name only).

....I never noticed how long Linus's neck is. Having no neck, I'm a little envious.

If that's a list of people who consumers place their trust in then it's no surprise the world is turning to shit.

These are some really depressing news.

How many Lamborghini's did he have to sacrifice to get on that list?

All of them. He might leave one for Linus though, just because they're list buddies.

Those Forbes employees can easily look for a decent head shot of @LinusTech but not Jonathan.

But seriously that Tai Lopez guy, he often appears as an Instagram ad for financial coaching so I don’t know if what he does is a pyramid Ponzi scheme or not.

Lew is just the Epic Meal Time of the Tech World. He's insanely popular, he has close to 10 million subs or something. I can really see that being the sole reason he is there. He seems like a great dude, but all he does is unbox cool shit. Hardly an influencer. I also think it's a bit of a stretch having Jonathon on there too, he mixes fashion with tech & goes for that clean minimalist look, I like it, but he's not and influencer imo.

Come on now: he also does questionable-to-fraudulent giveaways too. It's kind of a wink wink thing it's no accident that file picture he provided is him behind a bunch of iphones I'm sure he's ready to "give away"

To be quite honest. I've seen those accusations thrown about for most of the tech channels that have done giveaways, especially when we're talking millions of subscribers and only a handful are going to win, so it always seems like it's rigged when you don't win.

Aye I personally hate giveaways too but Lewis well, he bends phones and opens boxes there's not much more substance to comment on.

The people upset that Lewis, Jonathan or Tai are on the list probably don't understand what "influencer" means.

It's another word for "ad person", and those people most certainly fits that definition very well.

In fact, most people on that list fits that description very well. At least two people on that list literally owns marketing firms, three if you count Linus.

Fine about Lewis or Jonathan, but you're wrong about Tai: He is somebody that buys adds on youtube, PLENTY of them. He uses those ads to drive people to his other products and such (which often happen to be video tutorials) but he has not grown to be someone advertisers seeks out since he is the advertiser.

Seems like a gigantic conflict of interest to put an advertiser up on the influencers list since well, he literally bought his way into the list since his popularity comes from him paying up tons of money to appear on massive youtube advertising campaigns.

Depends what you mean by influencer; almost everything he features either goes up in price or becomes sold out after his videos. That's some manner of influencing.

I think you misinterpreted my post. When I said "ad person" I meant people who are in ads, or work with ads. Just anything that involves advertisement really.

I think Tai fits the definition of an "ad person" very well. He is famous for the ads he has made.

Well that's fine if that's what you mean but that's not really what influencer means. It's a bit more specific: people who influence others usually without using explicit or traditional ads. Might not be a full time reviewer but that's just because advertisers like to try and convince people with large social media presence to promote or use their products regardless of their style of videos or content (if they even do content).

It basically means you're a spokesperson but that's only social-media famous.

They really worked hard on the expose for Linus.                                                          /s

Here is the FULL profile:

Quote

In 2007, his boss at a computer store noticed a competitor making videos about products. "We needed to react," he said. "I was given the assignment even though I had no prior experience." Today, his wildly popular YouTube channel includes hardware reviews and guides to building PCs. He recently collaborated with fellow list member iJustine.

Yeah in that respect he's the definition of Influencer Marketing. But i'm thinking more the sort who may encourage change or does more than just influence the audience to buy..
