Reports that Nintendo Switches are bending/warping, possibly due to heat?

This is a story that's just breaking so its still developing, I will try and keep this thread updated.

 

It started with a single reddit post which exploded, a user posted a picture of his switch in the dock and it was clearly bent. That post then got a torrent of replies from other users who went and checked their switches and noticed the same.

 

 

Since then tech journalist Joey Davidson from Techno Buffalo has jumped in saying he has noticed it with his personal switch too.

Well, it is an Nvidia chip. So the heat from Thermi 2.0 (aka Tegra X1) can b(l)end everything including Sudoku Switches.

There are always some people that have problems, but the majority doesnt have, because customers that dont have a problem have no reason to write about it on the internet.

This thing looks / Feels extremely good, i have no dead pixels, i have no connection Problem whatsoever, my switch doesnt bend (yet..) ..

and even if it does.. you can bend every device if you use enough force .. and as the people in the thread said, they didnt even noticed it until one said it. 

 

The UI is one of the best i have ever seen in my life, and i don't regret the purchase at all, it's the best console i have ever played on.

 

 

And yes, Zelda is nuts. Great game.

I've had mine since launch, no issues with mine. Maybe I just don't use mine very much or maybe my room stays nice and cool?

 

Who knows, my switch doesn't get hot. Only slightly warm during use (tablet mode and docked) and i'm usually playing BotW. Not the kind of heat that would cause something to misshape or bend.

What's funny is I have a shield tablet k1 and it has a very similar bulge/bend on it too.

It might be that the heat from the exhaust is weakening the plastic around it and the weight of the battery is bending the switch.

This... I only hear about stuff like the scratching thingy, graphical glitches and such here, some friends bought swtiches and no problems so far

What happened to things like the DS Lite. The battery lasted over 20 hours on a single charge and you could throw them against a wall. Honestly what changed?

The first image is from a person who only kept the switch docked.

 

I myself wouldnt send in a switch until you can back up your saves to an SD Card, or anywhere.

It's unlikely a tech journalist will be playing 9 hours at a time, but who knows.

Among the million console sold. 3 of them has this issue, and some of them aren't sure if it was bent out of the box, and just noticed this. Regardless, Nintendo covers this under warranty.

As much as I want a Switch Im kind of glad I didnt grab one at launch. Hopefully the next revision will deal with this issue along with the controllers getting stuck, the dock scratching the screen and the crashing going on in some of the games. 

 

Also more colors cause I want a white one.

the controller (i think you mean these safety things) only get stuck when you attack them wrong, the dock only scratches the screen when you aren't careful, and that can easly be avoided by buying a screen protector or a microfibre-cltoth,

I have been playing for weeks now and the games never crashed once.

 

Any more 1 out of million problems?

I don't have the console (too expensive in Canada as is.. waiting for a bundle (beside one with 1-2 Switch)), but I am reading a lot of people has 0 problem. The dock is straight, so no scratches, no issue with the joy cons (in any case, it is fixed issue by Nintendo). Crash in gameS is only in Zelda from what I can see, and Nintendo has released a patch which addresses this (there will always be game bugs/crash, unless your game is dad simple), and provided performance boost to the game on the Switch.

 

I never heard anything related to stuck controllers on the Switch system. Are they pressing the button to release it? Probably not, or not fully.

I'm thinking just like the scratched screen it's not a widespread issue and is just someone not being smart with their console so they make it sound like it's nintendos fault and not theirs.

GBA SP is the true Nokia 3310 of Nintendo. You literally cannot destroy them. I had two DS Lites, one doesn't turn on anymore and the other has hinge problems. I have four SPs and they all still work flawlessly.

 

(Not saying the Lite sucked or anything, just my personal experiences.)

'cause then you'll complain that your graphic calculator has higher specs then the Switch. That is what happened.

This is the same problem as gaming laptops, and early Surface Pro's. When you push a lot of performance you have a lot of heat, and put that in a small package, you will have problems with battery life, and due to lack of room, you face with complex issues that were never one before. Unlike gaming laptop, or Surface, you don't have the luxury of throttling a game console, else the performance will be an issue.

 

As for durability, if you check YouTube you have a few videos showing how solid the system is, Its very solid unit. Definitely more solid then your tablet and phone (not to mention, easy to service in comparison, including replacing the front plastic screen without having to replace the display as they are not fused together.)

 

As for heat, some people believe that the Pascal Tegra none-car version can't be delivered (with the production amount) in the time for Nintendo liking, so they went with Tegra X1 instead. And believes that once that will be ready, Nintendo will release a new version of the Switch. However, don't expect performance increase, they'll just decrease the performance to maximize battery life. This 100% speculative, and not based on anything at all (no leaks, no rumors). So you can take that as less than a grain of salt.

Right but are graphics of games moving at a much faster rate then the hardware is?
