Vega is a big promise too, AMD is doing us all a favour, even if you don't like them. They might have inferior performance at the end of the day but without competition the advances become meaningless over time, thus why socialism stagnates any economy as all companies belong to the state and there is no reason to keep improving.

 

The better AMD do now, the better will Intel do, it is only for the best.

There are plenty of articles about their new brand prediction, aren't there? AMD hasn't exactly been shy when it comes to showcasing the specifics of the Ryzen microarchitecture and I doubt it's under NDA.

Power consumption isn't really in their favour either as although x86 chips consume more power, they also perform a hella better where X86 tablet chips at the same TDP as ARM tablet chips perform more or less the same in benchies . 

I've had three atom based devices all crap. Core m might be useful but i don't know anyone who has a MacBook or compute stick coz they are too expensive  for what they do

I just can't imagine intel creating a nice looking cooler. Everything they do is industrial looking. Look at the compute stick or the NUC. It's all square boxy stuff. The top nuc and ssd they kept the industrial look but slapped a skull on it. Did a ten year old design that logo?

Baytrail atom CPUs or their old single core/dual core atom CPUs? Fair enough if it's their old Atoms  but I have a dualbooting android and windows 10 tablet with a cherrytail (atom) X5 SOC and it's actually pretty decent, it allows me to play my favourite game of all time (NFSMW-2005) natively on whindows 10 at 1080p, stream videos at 4K without any major issues, hell even play CSGO at not the greatest settings soooooo ya know, it's performance is good enuff (for it's price). When booted into Android, it feels no slower than using my Z3C or my mother's Huawei p9 soooo...meh? 

And yes, CPU perf wise, baytrail and cherrytail are supposed to be the same.

Intel already lowered their prices. The 7700k is now $300 instead of $380. If Intel thinks they can't compete at current price point, its the strongest indication yet that Ryzen will live up to the hype.

I'm sitting here with a 6800K and an Asus X99 Deluxe II. I think I might get a 1800X for my second PC but intel still has many more options to bring to the table. USB type C 3.1 thunderbolt, U.2, M.2, and so on. But for half the price of a 6900K and performs the same or better screw cool features

I also just thought of the fact that for the next 4 years all of AMD's CPUs will be compatible with am4 whereas skylake x and Kaby lake x are probably gonna be a different socket so am4 gives a better upgrade path too.

Yes the 7740k coming on a totally different socket the LGA 2066 from the last I read about it, while it seems that the 8th gen is actually to remain on 14 lithography and even same socket, so if you got a skylake or kaby lake motherboard you are covered for the cannonlake but if you want kaby-lake-e then you no longer are covered, what makes the kaby-lake-e already be born in a dead pathway from what we know yet, which is by no means worth it, since aside quad channel memory and slight frequency boost there is no shouting difference with the former 7700k.

I dont think intel is gone yet as amd has only released high end ryzen processors and its wierd but intel currently has the lower end untill ryzen releases their 4 core models but I think once intel raises their processors core count and lowers their prices they will compete with ryzen as 1 kaby lake core is stronger then 1 ryzen core

I agree that at the low end it looks like Intel will be very strong but, we still really have no idea how its going to play out. The problem is right now we're basing this off of very limited leaked benchmarks. The benchmarks are close enough where honestly IPC could swing slightly in either brand's favor. We honestly don't know what kind of single core performance difference we're going to see. We also have a little idea how well the 8 core Ryzen's will overclock, but zero idea how well the 6 and 4 core Ryzen's will overclock.

 

but it seems like AMD just stole a giant chunk of the high end market.

my wallet just thanks the mobo makers for sucking at their offerings for Ryzen. I preordered the 1800x then cancelled looking at the current mobo offerings. Now i'm leaning towards just buying an AIO putting it on my 2600k and waiting 6-18 months.

I was really hoping for a motherboard like one of

with a few more SATA & M.2 ports, ATX+ (not SSI ?EB) compatibility, among other things.  But, it looks like pretty much any AM4 board I've seen would be a sidegrade at best, or even a downgrade from what I already have.

 

 

I hope something among the rest of the 82 boards may surprise us, but I'm not holding out any hope.

In a perfect world, there would be a mini itx with 3 m.2s, supported both wireless and 5gb/s lan, at least 9 power phases, and no led lights or gaudy color scheme, maybe some natural copper colors on some of the metal for under $200.

 

In reality, i'm probably more hoping for a mini itx with 2 m.2s, and at least 6 power phases and thats probably all the features i can ask for. I might have to get a x370 to get 2 m.2s and be able to overclock. If i'm stuck with getting a full atx board to have 2 m.2s, i just want to pay under $200 for it. AS everything i'm seeing right now that has 2 m.2s is at least $240.
