Don't care what you haters think, I liked FO4. Sure story was pretty weak and the RPG elements were dumbed down to high heaven but I enjoyed exploring the world and seeking out side missions to complete.

As for the texture pack? Fuck yeah, time to start a fresh game and watch my 1070 start to cry plus Piper in real 4K should be well worth it.

All that was good was the combat system, and the world. Which isn't enough to carry a game unless its a multiplayer FPS...

Isn't it fascinating that a developer would feel the need to release an hd texture pack just a couple of years after the game's launch?

At least its DLC made after FO4 that is free.....

Probably a typo. Might be 5.8 gigs

I highly doubt it. Especially considering the standard textures already take up 13.5GB.

58GB isn't exactly unexpected, honestly, given how many different assets there are in the game. Even so, it would make more sense for them to release the textures as a free DLC, rather than a forced update.

Not even id tech 5 games had this much texture data and those covered entire levels with custom texture work. I have no doubt it could have been compressed to at least half that size without losing any quality.

Thus confirming that purchasing an SSD for game installs, not just the OS, is a decent investment for new AAA titles. Although, you're probably more likely to run into issues with insufficient VRAM than you are with disc reads.

The Internet is the first thing that humanity has built that humanity doesn't understand, the largest experiment in anarchy that we have ever had.

Nope, it was manually crafted textures. They just figured out a great compression method.

Actually, the RX 490 reference could have been a slip up on Bethesda's part :P

You can bark like a dog, but that won't make you a dog.

You can act like someone you're not, but that won't change who you are.

Finished Crysis without a discrete GPU,15 FPS average, and a lot of heart

How I plan my builds -

Spoiler

For me I start with the "There's no way I'm not gonna spend $1,000 on a system."

Followed by the "Wow I need to buy the OS for a $100!?"

Then "Let's start with the 'best budget GPU' and 'best budget CPU' that actually fits what I think is my budget."

Realizing my budget is a lot less, I work my way to "I think these new games will run on a cheap ass CPU."

Then end with "The new parts launching next year is probably gonna be better and faster for the same price so I'll just buy next year."

A Titan xp is faster than a 1080....

Also, presumably this texture pack will be more strenuous.

You know what guys? Be happy with what you get. If you don't want the texture pack, then don't download it. It is as simple as that. No one is forcing you to get it.

Is it going to be an optional, free DLC that can be downloaded through Steam, or a forced 58GB download that won't allow me to play the game until the download is complete?

I want to assume the ladder due to mentioned option to disable it through the launcher, not uninstalling it.

Yea I'll stop complaining when my internet is no longer 1.5Mb/s.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

If it's anything like the Skyrim HD textures, once you download it once it'll download along with the game every time you install the game on Steam.

Or delete Fallout altogether, time to go back to the good and old S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Metro2033.

Sounds like the better option. Either way I would still need a new SSD, I uninstalled FO4 as I ran out of space a long time ago. If I were to delete all the installed games on my computer I would still only have 31 GB of free space.

As with all HD texture packs it will be optional, you'll have to go to the Steam store and "purchase" it before it downloads and even then you can disable it with a tickbox if you ever want to download again without the pack included.
