It's art, and high quality printings are freaking expensive. Thus, the high price.

Also, not sure why everyone complains when a company wants to make money. People will buy this book, Apple will make money, and thus the cycle will continue. Clearly they are doing something right when they have billions of dollars just sitting around.

The way everyone reacts, you'd think that Apple was supposed to be a charity or something.

See I would be inclined to agree here, but you can buy The Farside Collection and The Calvin and Hobbes Collection for $200. And they're freakin' tomes that look like they can stand the test of time.

I may have agreed at first glance, but after some thought and a quick search anyone can see that the price on this book is nowhere close to justifiable.

Both of those sets are also mostly text or black/white comics though.

Any low volume book can be quite expensive to print. Assuming high quality paper and print and what he said isn't wrong.

Apple pricing on their macbooks I'm fine with that. But a book for $300, even some Apple lovers will have some sense and say that's expensive. Only the most extreme isheep will try to find any way to justified that insane price tag.

The cost of color ink doesn't justify a $200+ asking price above either of those series.  I can probably find other books that are full color of high quality images that still aren't as expensive.

I mean the only justification is it's probably going to be a low volume limited production item. But that doesn't mean it's worth $300 to most people.

And those people won't buy it. But for those who want to buy it, $300 isn't that bad of a price considering the cost of printing.

I never said that 300 usd for that book was not expensive. What I was saying is that its a matter of perspective. Also you can easily find books well into that price category just for education (like university).

My college text book for Art History class didn't cost $300, has more pages and it's also high quality. Got it brand new too.

This is where I'm inclined to say what is the cost of printing this?

Well going back to Calvin and Hobbes, it had a run of a little over 10 years. 1/7 of that were color Sunday strips at the very least (there are also a few full color side stories from the books Watterson included). That comes out to about 520 color pages. Granted they're not as colorful as a photograph, but printing presses either charge by color or they don't.

No, of cause not. No offence, but that is Arts History (I want to make it absolutely celar - NO offence). Look at economist, doctor and that, in some countries they can cost up multiple 1000 of usd (in total, granted).

lol we have wildly different ideas of what art is then. art needs thought to be put into it not mindless photos of what looks like a product catalog

Well here's the other thing

iFixit has a ton of pictures of Apple's products and they've officially done tear downs of most of Apple's major products from 2009 on. Users have contributed a lot of high quality photos, albeit of obviously used products, of Apple's older products to the site as well.

So... unless you really want a fancy book by Apple, you can get all of the technology porn of Apple's products you want from iFixit.

I'm sure someone spent a lot of time on it. It's also high quality colour print. It's still too expensive from a pure value perspective, but not 6 times as expensive as it should be.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Art is purely subjective so its hard to put a value on it in the first place. Hell, have you seen those plain white paintings that sold for something close to 100 million dollars? Art doesn't make sense.
