Depends on what you define as "PC". If just computer then my first was a BBC Microcomputer Model B with a whopping 32kilobytes of RAM haha, then an Amiga A1200 (which I still play with from time to time). If you mean PC as in IBM compatible then my first was a Packard Bell 486 SX25 :D My current PC can trace its lineage back to that machine, I have been upgrading from that machine since I could afford it!

My dad went to college for computer engineering and had a TON of old hardware, OS disks, cables and other stuff piled in the basement. I grew up in the basement playing SNES and XBox, always taking notice of the towers that laid in "his area". He eventually quit college with not much to show for it, but after a while, he agreed to let me have at whatever I wanted to take apart when I was around 9 years old.

Nothing was left in terms of fully functional systems a month later. There were hard drive disks torn into, RAM all over the place, and you couldn't step anywhere without being greeted with a screw to the heel. I loved it, and I eventually started to become familiar with all the parts. I'd disassemble things and then ACTUALLY put them back together, working properly. *Scratches neck* I-I haven't been quite the same since then.. :)

First one i owned was an old Dell Dimesion 8300.  It was amazing at the time.  Playing Half Life was the best.  Windows Xp was the best.  The memories bro.

I hung onto Win 98 as long as I could because it let me use true dos, but the switch to xp was, IMO, their best OS.

If you don't have pictures just try and remember the what was in the thing and post thoes

I got this in mid 2012

  • I had a Core 2 Duo
  • 4 Gb of what i can only assume was 4 GB of ddr3
  •  250 GB hdd
  •  psu I'm surprised did not catch on fire
  •  Zotac Gt 640
  • What looks like a speaker grenade
  • And the exact same monitor i use now
  • I appear to have liked cartoon horses as well

Oh boy this one's bad, I built it when I was 12 and just starting to get into PC gaming. Honestly for a 12 year old I don't think this was too bad, and it worked for gaming at 1280x1024.

Pentium E5200

AMD Radeon R7 240 (sorry Linus)

HP Slimline motherboard

2GB of DDR2 memory

Corsair CX 430 PSU

Some random cooler

Some hard drives I took out of dead laptops

A DVD R/W drive

and a modded Rosewill Ranger M with a custom plexiglass window.

Anyway it looked like this:

That's true, no one will probably have their first PC. My first PC was gateway from 2002 and I don't have it anymore. :P

First custom one :

59600c9aaab75_Retribution-2008-02-08b.jpg.dee4d0375c27360068fb5b7314c743b5.jpg

Built in 2006 but this pic was taken in 2008 after a couple of peripheral upgrades (the 19" screens, external HDD, trackball, speakers)

I was getting quite involved with GTR2 skinning and writing handling lines for GTA mod makers, so the second screen really was a must.  Been using 2 screens ever since and I just don't want to think about having to live with only one screen.

Spec-wise ...

if I'm not mistaken an Athlon 3000 (1.8GHz single-core, single thread) and an ATI Radeon X1300.  No idea what RAM or PSU

1 DVD reader, 1 DVD burner, a 3.5" floppy drive, a 40GB boot drive, 80GB data drive, next to it are a pair of 120GB external drives that were added later.  Monitors are 2x Packard Bell Maestro 191W (19", 1440x900 each)

Stupid fan configuration too.  120mm front intake, 2x 120mm bottom intake, 120mm side intake, 2x 120mm rear exhaust.  All with blue LED, of course; but you saw little of them due to the case not having many openings and because I turned the fan controller way down.  Still nice glow at night, mostly on the wall behind the PC.

Most importantly a pair of HDD coolers.  Apparently they still sell those things ( Ebay link ).  Noisy as hell, those things, especially when they start to resonate.

A couple months after this pic was taken, the modding had apparently taken its toll on that poor system so I built a new one around a Q6600 and a 4870X2.

The first computer I ever owned was a laptop way back in 2011. That got stolen :(

but the first pc I've ever built was this, I recieved it from someone who found it lying on the side of the road and then rebuilt it using spare parts. My hands must've been really shaky a couple years ago.

Specs:

AMD Athlon 64 x2

4GB DDR2

Some motherboard with an integrated graphics chip

SoundBlaster Live! PCI card.

Unfortunately, I can't recall many details about my first PC. It's been dead for nearly two decades now. All I remember about it is it was a Compaq Presario that had something like 16MB RAM, a Pentium and ran Windows 95.

If I could find the manual, that'd help a lot, but the only manuals I can find are for the monitor and printer, as well as the Windows 95 COA.

First overall, first custom pre-build or first custom build?

I don't have close access to pics from first overall. Any photos were taken with film cameras around -93. First custom pre-build is also from -96, soo..... (second (-01) is still in use, after internal swap (-05)). First custom (2008):

Still in use from that PC: OS (Win Vista), monitor (LG Flatron 19"), mobo&RAM (Abit IP35-P, Kingston 800MHz DDR2 2gig, Mushkin 800MHz DDR2 2gig), cooler (Noctua U9B). Audio card and keyboard/mouse are in storage (working).

Mine was powered by a cat.

She used  to sleep on top of the screen and sometimes look at what I was doing. When I got a LCD she never noticed and tried jumping up on top of it only to crash into the wall behind it and fall to the floor. I picked her up and showed her it was different, she still jumped up a second time and tried balancing on the LCD.

After that she started sleeping on the case.

As to what my specs were back in 2001ish? No idea. I think I got the LCD a year before I went army so that's probably 2003.
