What was your first computer?

It was called "Taco" or something like that.. Had 40mhz 386 CPU,512kb Cirrus Logic video card,5.25" floppy disk,3.5" floppy disk drive. ~100mb HDD but at every startup I had to manually enter cylinders,heads,sector to bios because battery died. We solved the problem by soldering cellphone battery to mobo. Still have it, but have to change it again. Funny thing is, I used it as a 7 year old first time, in 2001. My father didn't want to buy new stuff. <_<

First computer? I don't know if you count the Amiga Commodore 500 as a computer, but that was probably the first one for me.

 

If you're talking about PC-based then if I remember correctly, it was a Pentium 100Mhz w/ 16MB RAM and a dedicated S3 video card! The case even had a turbo button on it.

i recall when I was 4-5 idk when but it was a compaq or hp with a p4 1g of ram and a 80 or 120gb HDD. It had a view sonic crt moniter, and it always overheated.

A family friend had recently given me her old prebuilt HP Because she got a new PC. This was about a year ago.

CPU: A6-3650

Cooling: Stock

Mobo: Some HP Rebranded Biostar thing

Ram: 2x4 1333mhz Hyundai Ram

Case: Whatever the HP PAVILION is

PSU: Some 300w HP Thing that works well shockingly.

Storage: 1TB HDD

Well you might of noticed I mentioned no GPU. It USED to run on Intergrated graphics. Around 6-8 months ago I started getting into pcs. Well long story,I've been saving up money and finally put a Asus Strix 750Ti.

SpinTires- 16x AA Ultra Settings 60FPS Constant

H1Z1 40-60FPS Medium Quality, No AA, Ultra Pixel Quality. ( two most demanding games I own, shadow of Mordor will be fun )

So I might be getting a new CPU soon, my current bottlenecks my GPU. Enough where I can downclock the core clock by 100 and the thing still runs at 100% while gaming. Gonna slowly upgrade this thing so it can last me a few months then I am gonna buy a new PC. I've got every part picked out. ( Will obviously change as time goes on ). But I gotta take a small step first. Basically the only thing I am gonna do is a new used CPU if I can find one, and an SSD. Also depending on the motherboard maybe more ram and aftermarket cooling. ( The RAM, SSD, aftermarket cooling, stuff like this will be reused in my dream build except maybe ram since by then DDR4 will be mainstream. )

Those APUs kinda suck now. My grandma has nearly the same exact system (Pegatron mobo and Samsung RAM being the only real differences), and it is slow as ass.

It's a perfectly,fine APU if my motherboard WOULD LET ME OVERCLOCK. I've seen people get these things to 4.5GHZ and play GTA V ect ect. But yeah I am getting semi custom built PC ( I know nothing about it ) that was built 4-5 years ago. Hopefully it has a better CPU. The 750Ti is just to much for the poor thing. The thing is fine for basic gaming like minecrsft , and basic simulators and indie games by itself. For more intensive games like H1Z1 it's fine w/ the 750Ti and will try Shadow Of Mordor within the next two days. ( Wow, Can't wait to see how bad it does in this ).

This was when I first started to get into tech about 5 years ago. I'd say my knowledge within IT has vastly grown and I learned everything from self-teaching

Going from my Pentium to the APU is just bad for me. Even though I have half the cores and a little over a GHz more on the cores, her CPU just chokes doing anything.

It had 64mb of RAM, a 500mhz CPU and a whopping 30GB of storage. Best of all, it ran ME!

..Strangely enough, I never encountered any problems with ME.

The first PC I ever had was the Compaq Presario 5320US. It ran Windows 98 (or 95 idr), which was later upgraded to Windows XP. It died around 6 years ago, and my mom threw it in the trash when I wanted to take it apart

Dell Dimension 4600 I believe. Found it in the back office at a church, was told it was broken and I could have it if I fixed it lol. Only thing wrong with it was a dead CMOS battery that made you wait a good 2 minutes after powering on to revert to BIOS defaults or whatever it does (they never left it on long enough to realize it wasnt broken LOL) I was honest with them though and they told me I could still keep it lol. So that became my first PC and we had many adventures together.

 

My parents didn't like me owning a PC. They eventually let me keep it but I was banned from using Ethernet and wifi. I listened... sort of. At night I would get on the neighbors wifi with my PSP (lol) and browse the internet looking for things to do with my new computer. After about a year of owning it, they finally let me use the internet with it and things just took off from there. No more slow PSP wifi from the neighbors. I used the computer to learn. Those were the good days.

 

Then I discovered games... so I looked into upgrades (didn't know anything)

Had a Pentium 4 @ 2.8GHz and 512MB of DDR RAM later upgraded to about 1GB after mix matching ram from a bunch of old PC's

I swapped the GPU one day when I didnt know what I was doing for a Geforce 6200 (was an upgrade but not much lol) and that let me play minecraft beta on it for the short time I had it. 

I also had ubuntu on it at one point when I first ran into Linux (I found an ubuntu cd in an old hp laptop and I put it in my desktop to find out what it was )

 

I also remember trying to overclock it with CPUFSB but never could find the right settings. It was around this point I started looking into a new computer, and learning about modern hardware and what to get and I "built" a gaming PC (on the cyberpower site lol) after I got that PC I learned I could build one myself thanks to sites like newegg and amazon which I literally didn't know existed somehow LOL after a year or two I discovered Linus and the rest is history.

That was the first one I've owned, but I have used an old windows 95 computer before as well, also used one that only had MS-DOS. But I didn't own those so I guess it doesn't count.

The technically first one was basically a bunch of second hand very old parts combined together that could barely run Windows 98 and of which I don't remember the specifics. The second one which I used for years was a few months after the first and had a mindblowing Pentium II and Riva TNT2

I still have that computer now, albiet in an Antec Soprano case and upgraded with new hard drive and 512MB SD-RAM. Still runs just fine but I rarely start it up.

 

The first computer that I, myself, ever had was some kind of crappy LGA form-factor Slot 1 Pentium III that ran Windows ME. My dad bought it from someone else for $20.

 

It was a pretty slow computer and so I never got sentimental about it and ended up throwing it out soon after I upgraded to a Pentium 4 Dell (which also delivered pretty sad performance by Pentium 4 standards).

 

After that I think I upgraded to a Toshiba Satellite gaming laptop, which completely died last year, and ended up buying my current Core i5 4670K machine as a permanent fix for my computer needs.

I was too young to properly remember, but i knew it went "magically" from W95 to W98

I downloaded demo's from download.com (i think) and played that for months!

 

Until we got a Packard Bell when XP was just released, damn i played midtown madness 2 on that thing for a LOOONG time. And the bunch of demo's that came with it.

I think it was a 1.6Ghz with 512MB or whatever, i don't know...

 

I still want that weird construction game back...
