First would probably be a Pentium 3, the first ever 1ghz processor in early 2000. Maxed that baby out with 512mb of ram. Believe I had a Geforce 256 in it and had a Geforce2  Ultra late that year

lol my 2012 system. Many regrets regarding case and GPU's but I got  everything else right. Solid cpu, cooler, mobo, ram, ssd, psu, cable management.

But before then I've upgraded the hell outta Dell Inspiron 580. More RAM. Upgraded CPU cooler. Upgraded graphics card. Upgraded PSU. Upgraded SSD. Custom lighting etc etc.

Thanks!

Rosewill Challenger. It wasn't half bad until I had to start diagnosing things and pulling graphics cards out routinely. Then I started hating it.

GPU's Two R7 260X's in Crossfire. Yup bought them both @ same time. Basically wasted $350 when I could have gotten an GTX 970 for that. But hey, you gotta make mistakes to learn right? :)

Thanks!

When I first built my PC I had a odd mix of components but I knew I would end up upgrading. I had a G3258, Z97 Motherboard, GTX 750Ti, 1TB WD Blue, a CX500M, and a Corsair 350D. The only things that are still there from the beginning are the case, power supply. and hard drive. However soon the power supply will be replaced by a RM650i.

Apple II Plus. More modified than build but I did so to run an AI program I designed that guessed the animal you were thinking of. This was back when the II plus was the shit LOL.

We have an Apple II E in my class room :)

All the parts for my first computer are going to be here soon, and I'm so excited to finally build it!

This got me wondering, what are some of your guys' most favorite memories from building your first system?

I know to a lot of people, though it may not be the most powerful system they've ever built, their first build usually ends up being their favorite build.

Well my first build (for myself... important distinction) is my favorite by far, but that's because I actually got to choose my color scheme and design, with a slick black look.

I do remember however my horror after having issues with 4 consecutive motherboards before finally getting one that worked... 5 motherboards total...

The horror... The horror.

I was building a friends rig with another friend over that is VERY ignorant about tech and tried doing it all himself... First he screwed the mobo in without standoffs and was bitching about nothing lining up.. I was like, "did you put stand offs on?" Him, "What are stand offs?"

Then he plugged the speaker into a cpu fan header.. And plugged the cpu power in backwards... He was about to install the FX 6300 backwards... Then I slapped his hand with the cpu so he'd drop it... His response, "Why the fuck did you do that?" Me: "You have a gold triangle to line up with a triangle on the socket." Him: "Pretty sure you don't have to."

Best of all, that friend installed 32bit win 7 on it assuming it would be fine... Thank god I was there or that rig would be fucked.

I've messed around with them, it is possible to put them in backwards as they're keyed identically...
