We used to have some really old dells with Windows XP, but they upgraded them to Lenovo ones with 6500ks, 16gb of RAM, Windows 10, Nvidia k620s, and 1080p monitors.

My school has a combination of shitty Core2 machines running Vista and nice i5 machines running W7. My Votech school has half-decent Core2 machines (in the programming room at least. We also just got some i5 machines, but they haven't set them up yet) some iMacs (digital media & digital art), and in the "general lab" downstairs, Pentium 4 machines (yikes)

We just upgraded the school's PCs from Pentium 4's and Core 2 Duo's along with 1-2GB of RAM which honestly weren't bad to use but just slow from the combination of old hardware and mechanical drives. Put an SSD in one of them and it becomes pretty snappy. All of the new computers have SSDs, 8GB of RAM, and at least Skylake i5's with one lab having 6700's with GT730's in them. I made sure my PC at work (I worked at the school) was one of the i7 machines. ;)

Can't remember but i do know they have an i7 and a gpu that is NOT USED.

The monitors are stupidly expensive dell monitors with a usb hub but they are connected with a DP connection to the motherboard, the dGPU doesn't have O_o

Also they are slow AF because they cheaped out on the hard drive, no idea what it is but it's SLOOOW.

Most of the desktops at my HS have i7 4790s and 16GB of RAM running Win 7 Pro.

There are some slim iMacs that probably have some sort of i5 in them. I also guess there are some PCs with i5 2400s in them.

Wow, entitled much? What kind of classes are you taking where you need better specs than that? And why does the case, motherboard, PSU, or anything else matter while you're using it for school?

Agreed (sort of). I agree those not picky things don't matter. Though I'd say that for web browsing and multi-tasking a computer like that would be less than desirable.

Lol, all our computers at school are HP z240 towers, some skylake xeon, 16gig ram and some quadro. I feel sorry for you man but you don't need much more than that for word and shit, we have nice comps because we do a lot of CAD and media work that benefits from it. What I will complain about is our laptops, atom z2760 (32-bit!!), 2 gigs of ram and a 60 gig emmc drive, it gets a worse geekbench than an iphone5!! bleh, we're expected to do the same work we do on those beefy workstations on these when the labs are booked out. not fun.

Anyway, If you really want better comps find some kind of education deal with HP or Acer or something to get computers in bulk for cheap, and maybe propose that.

On a side note, e2160's are fun. Pretty great overclockers.

pc specs: 4 function calculator / 8 digit lcd display / colored numeric and function buttons

Our CS labs all have i5 NUCs or iMacs.

The servers I worked with were also pretty good.  Dual Xeons, they still bogged down like hell during crunch time tho.

my school also ran entirely on iMacs, but this was circa year 2000, well enough, wed all gather in the lab after school and LAN Starcraft!

Honestly, anything Core 2 Duo and newer, the school just needs to budget for some SSD. However, there are very few companies that will put budget aside for PC parts (no matter how easy the install is) vs just outright replacement, let alone a school trying to convince the superintendent.

Even if the use case easily falls within the capabilities of a Core 2 Duo, most corporate environments would sooner replace the entire PC (most of the time, on a model with an HDD) than spend a fraction of the cost on just an SSD.

Not my money, though it doesn't keep me from cringing at times.

Does anyones schools/universities have good computers lmao?

We have a mixture of AIOs all over campus.  Got a bunch of iMacs in the library.  Mixture of 21" and 24" iMacs in classrooms.  Lenovo and HP AIOs with like Core i5s and 8GB of RAM.

I haven't been to that part of the school.  But I heard the part of the school were film majors go, they got some fancy pants Mac Pros.  Whatever freaking classroom or building they use.

Oh, we still have a bunch of Core 2 Quad machines lying around.  But they are phasing them out for the AIOs.

I have no idea, though you would think so.  I got to Minot State University, we have Xeons and FirePros in our workstations.  (Those Mac Pros I mentioned)

How do you get a fake Windows 7?

You should wait until you get to college or univ and you are forced to buy their laptop.

Usually false alarms for copyright infringement. IT services should really have bought Win 7 (or the school gets prosecuted), but these things can happen even if they have done so.

As for the OP, unless their classes involve a lot of computationally heavy work, they shouldn't really be using it for gaming except under the discretion of staff or something, and if it does involve a lot of resource-intensive work, the department should arrange to get better computers to improve student productivity. The school network can use the stuff you go on to ruin your reputation or something (e.g. viewing porn, which should be blocked on school networks in the first place unless somehow someone manages to get around that).
