Basically, he's intending on taking the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA), and giving it control to Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (iCANN).

 

What this WILL do, is prevent THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA from having too tight control over the entire Internet.

 

As a Non-American, I'm not really too concerned with this. iCANN is already a pretty powerful entity, and that's not controlled by America either. I trust the UN enough to ensure that Russia or China doesn't take over the IANA for nefarious purposes.

I absolutely don't trust the U.N., there are several controversies and issues surrounding the U.N. that lead me to believe a union such as that would not be in everyone's best interest.

Hey if Americans don't do this at the rate this is going the rest of the world would create and start using "Another-net" to basically copy functionality but avoid American centralization and potential snooping.

 

What worries me is that the UN could potentially censor. While the USA potentially snoops things I trust them a lot more than the EU the UN to not basically take advantage and censor dissenting voices.

We are at risk. Us Non-Americans, that is. You probably don't care that the US is in control of the IANA because that's your government. But c'mon. Think about this from a Non-American's perspective.

 

Hell, even Americans should be weary of American control of the Internet, given the NSA and the fact that we know the US Government is abusing the Internet and spying on Americans as well as foreign allies already.

 

Taking away control from them? That's a good start in my books.

This is an amazing thing! Might help reduce the amount of ISPs just sitting on lines making it impossible to upgrade or allow faster speeds. Usually towns have one ISP so they can charge $100 for dial up. Some have a couple but there is always hardly any competition. Also the NSA might have a harder time spying on everyone or a much easier time.

The control over domain names and "interpretation of numerical addresses" is moving from US control to international control. Actually descentralization would be the only best option. Some sort of collaboration to sync several servers from around the world but ensuring none of them have complete control and have to faithfully replicate the same data across the board.

 

Of course many nations would never go for it as they like to censor the fuck out of their citizens access a.k.a. China.

I think, if anything, .com will become/remain an Internation standard (Eg: International compies like Apple/MS/Intel, etc). .co.us might become more standard for smaller/local US websites.

Yeah, that's what i was thinking would happen. For many companies though, their .com site is only their US one, not their international one. (Ex: Most American Auto/Tech companies)

Frankly, I doubt that would even happen, and it certainly wouldn't be forced upon you. .us probably already exists btw. A bunch of new TLD's were created in the last half decade.

Donald Trump gets a really bad wrap by anyone who's stupid enough to only follow mainstream media and think he's the kkk, queer-hating, racist, sexist, that he's painted to be.

 

That said, i didn't agree with him regarding encryption and security integrity but he wouldn't really be able to do anything (As he'd only be the president)

Oh, don't get me wrong I'm sure he's a nice guy when you sit down and talk to him on his multi-million dollar, gold plated, Boeing 757 private jet, while en-route to his own golf course. Nice guy.

 

And I've heard he can hook you up if you are in need of any large scale walls.
