Powermac G5 MOD - Update 02/15 Page 6 #104

Scatology
Hi guys!  Sorry for the delay before this update.  <_<  The project is not dead.  I simply didn't have the time to finish it, but I assembled it to be able to use freenas. Except that it looks not very clean. Haha!  In fact the HDD cage is not screwed/mounted, the cables management is not done, the yellow sata cables are ugly and it is now full of dust.  But regardless of that here is a picture:

Hey guys! This is Austin! Just kidding!

I received my cables combs!  It looks much cleaner with these.

It only remains to mount the HHD cage permanently and to sleeve some cables. After that the  NAS should be finished. ^^

Yep preparing for sleeving! :D  I still need other things before starting.

For the moment I received the motherboard tray and installed it!

Where did you get the motherboard tray from?

I'm considering a similar project, and was actually just going to get one of the ones from caselabs... :P

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Don't be shy to "steal" ideas dude! :P In our case it's called inspiration. :P

I took the Lian-Li V351 mATX motherboard tray. I didn't want atx tray for esthetic and practical reasons.  http://www.performance-pcs.com/lian-li-replacement-mini-removable-motherboard-tray-pc-v351.html

I don't know if I already linked it but here is the cad file if you want to do the same modification! https://grabcad.com/library/apple-powermac-g5-custom-backplate-1

Here is it guys, I think I can call it finished. xD Not the cleanest set-up but after all, it's a NAS... xD I don't like the sata power cable but I don't know how to sleeve the connectors part... I will may be add a white LEDs strip behind the motherboard tray and a plate to hide the power supply area.

The more builds I see from G5 the more I like these cases. Altough my next build will be silent orientated and there are better options out there to do so :/

Just went through the whole topic. Wow! 0.o

Yep I know, but I just wanted to mod a powermac G5 at first. ^^

What kind of hard drive rack are you using?

It comes from an old Lian-Li case.

incredible job bro!!  This is one of the cleanest G5 builds I have ever seen and I have seen quite a few of them.  My only recommendation is to build another plate to cover up the PSU area and add more HDDs.

Well done!  Your photographs and attention to detail are inspiring!

I'm planning to do a G5 build too and would love to have a wiring diagram for the power on button in front for the Power and LED.

Thanks in advance!!

That moment when a NAS is sexier than your main PC.  :(  :P

Jokes aside, this thing is probably in my top 10 builds ever. Sexiest case evar, amazing color scheme, clean and minimalistic. Gah, I want it

For my Mac Pro I am going to be using one from an old case, but it needs some work done. You can pick up a cheap mATX case for ~$10 and use the tray and I/O from it

It's not a bug, it's an undocumented feature!

I am going the ghetto way because of budget reasons, but at the end I hope it will look clean :P
