Asus to increase prices in the UK by 9%

Due to UK voting to leave the EU. Asus has join the HP and Dell, and it's the 3rd company to raise the prices of their products. Asus is raising their pricee of their products by 9%, starting October. Those living in the UK, that really sucks.

While technically correct that isn't being entirely honest. They aren't raising prices due to the UK voting to leave the EU, they are raising prices because a consequence of that decision is their currency being worth significantly less.

Well you can tell companies using that as a excuse to raise their prices. Just like the hdd factory flooding.

While I'm sure companies try to get a few % extra out of it, it is undeniable that Asus earns less on a gpu or motherboard than they did before the vote.

How is this a shitty move from them?

The pound is worth significantly less than it used to be, it's more than appropriate that manufacturer adjust their prices a bit. It isn't like the pound had fluctuated from a cent or 2, so they have to live and not have people profiting from the UK situation to buy more cheaply their products only to resell them in other countries at a profit.

That would mean adding an actor in the supply chain which isn't necessary and take money which other actors deserve, Asus included.

Edit: On second look, you're reading that graph wrong. It shows you can get more GBP per 1 USD than you could before.

His chart is quid per dollar not quid to dollar conversion (which is generally stated as dollar per quid.)

Actually, it isn't just ASUS, you have Dell, HP, and others who mentioned that they'll increase their prices by 9%.

The UK should increase taxes on these companies, to encourage other companies to not raise base prices.

 

Raise the taxes on their products, and you guarantee a loss in sales for those companies. Lost sales = share holders panic

if you can get more pounds/quids from 1 USD then the value of the pound is dropping and you are looking a data over a year if you look at monthly data it would be more telling

 

for example if a day ago you would trade 2 cats for my dog and then today you would trade 3 cats for my dog then the value of cats decreased

I don't know that the point you are trying to make here... I know very well what is going on, and was pointing out Sam had it backwards... Amusingly enough even over a year the drop is quite sudden and visible.

And it means consumers lose since competition is decreased. Let the free market work, and the best results come forward.

When a specific event causes 30-year lows in an area's economy, and other record fluctuations for currency it needs justification.

 

There is no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
