Indian Customers hitting hard on NVIDIA for its insane pricing of 1080 Graphics card

5 hours ago, Clanscorpia said:

At NCIX 900 CAD is equal to 699 usd so we are getting them at msrp

5 hours ago, MilfShake said:

What do you mean? CAD $909 is exactly USD $599 after conversion, which is MSRP. What's your point?

You can price it whatever you want when it's not available to buy, but the ones that are actually in stock? 1,637.67 CAD for the cheapest available one... What a joke.

What's the point of crying 699 USD when you can't even buy one? Do I have to remind you the card has officially launched with availability promised 5 days ago?

The problem is that this is an nVidia product and scoring any nVidia product a "zero" is also highly predictive of the number of nVidia products the reviewer will receive for review in the future.

So, hold on. Indians are getting angry for pricing their high end enthusiast product high, meanwhile at the same time getting pissed off at Apple for wanting to sell them used iPhones at a lower price.

Talk about being fickle.

Guys, the 1080 is overpriced everywhere, since there are no custom variants (and they're NOT going to cost $599, that's the price for the shitty plastic blower cooler ones)

Not as extreme as in India, but in Italy the reference costs €799 (but it's still not available) and preorders for custom ones are more expensive...

I feel like everyone everywhere forgets how supply and demand works when new products launch.  Some companies mandate pricing, some allow for flexible pricing.

So in this case, Nvidia has not mandated fixed pricing, which means the sellers can jack up the price as much as they want.  And the retail outlets have dynamic automatic pricing built into their websites, as demand increases compared to supply, prices go up.

This is the Price! (get it?!!  sorry) of getting the cards "first".

And i though Australia had it bad at $869.70 USD, Indians are paying $1k+ USD! Surely they can see prices shouldn't be dictated by the American $ anymore it's getting out of control! 1080 is almost unobtainable by most let alone what the 1080ti is going to cost.

Yep, Australia has some excuse for slightly increased pricing on hardware (NOT VIDEO GAMES) due to GST and potential stocking/shipping costs (even though 870 USD is still too high for that). But damn India really gets the short end of the stick, especially when you consider how their average income is SO much less than ours.

That's not Nvidia's fault that people buy the stock and resell it inflated.. Nvidia don't make anything more from that. Also, it's a bit childish to want Nvidia to not let anyone buy it and have to wait to manufacture more until everyone can. You know they make an amount they know they'll sell so they can then make more with money they make right?

A lot of people need basic lessons in Capitalism: No matter what Nvidia says it would be illegal for them to fix the price of what other manufacturers charge. This is entirely ruled by supply and demand and it looks like either demand is insane or that their supply of them was fairly limited making them close to a paper launch only to jump ahead of AMD in theory only.

My guess would be it's something in the middle: fairly large demand and fairly underwhelming supply.

Supply and demand at work, msrp is a suggested retail price, when the actual stores see the potential to sell it for more they will. In a few weeks, maybe 1-2 months, supply will reach a sustainable level with demand going down and the price will probably stabilize around the msrp as it has consistently done in the past.

As for India, that country has this stuff going on with multiple hardware releases from different manufacturers. The margins in India are a lot higher than most other places in the world so as mentioned before. What is the single common factor in all of these different releases? Right, the country.

Of course it is Nvidia's fault by and large. When you have enough supply, nobody will buy the inflated stock. You simply can't blame resellers when fundamentally the demand is tenfold higher than supply. By basic Economics, it will push prices up.

Exactly. They launched it without any viable stock to begin with. Therefore price gouging was inevitable, and was pretty much expected. Such bullshit... >:(

That's literally how you prevent price gouging and repeated stock depletion. Childish to not do that? Which means you are OK with ridiculous launch prices and prolonged scarcity?

This looks more like a issue like the one Canada has. Don't expect nvidia to sell it to you for under 600usd. Meaning if 1000000 of your money is 600usd dont bitch about nvidia the price is the same everywhere bitch about your gov. or country for having a shitty economy/tax practice.

Umm, we are converting to USD first and then complaining about the price.  it is 80% more expensive after exchange rate is taken into account. My god the people on these forums sometimes kill me a little bit inside (most of you are great)

I remember you from a couple weeks ago going on about how AMD will have no chance against the Pascal lineup, Hmm, how wrong you were. Anyway I hope you understand that we actually have a point here. Australia they are putting a 25% price rise on it (after currency conversion) Things like this are unacceptable and clearly you must learn so.
