Notice that your graph was comparing to a 980, not a Titan X.

The double performance was never doubled.  It was 20-30 percent increased.  100 = double.

GTX 1070 - $799 CAD
GTX 1080 - $999 CAD

https://m.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/4jl0a5/gtx_1070_and_gtx_1080_canadian_pricing_insane/

Just gonna wait for mainstream gpus... I'll probably get another 390 if i need more power. Those prices are ludicrous.

Just someone who obviously never go to Canada before wondering... Strictly speaking $699 USD translate to about $904 CAD right now, as for the 1070 $450 USD go for about $582 CAD, so much cheaper than that $800 CAD tag, and since Canada is right on top of US, wouldnt it be cheaper for you Canadian to buy stuff from ebay US and shipped to Canada?

There's a surcharge when crossing the border.

The surcharge is higher than that $220 CAD increase?

And for example if someone live next to the border between the 2, wouldnt just go over to US (Canadian dont need visa to go to US as tourist right?) and buy one then come back, even with surcharge if any, be cheaper? You could also get tax refund that way isnt it?

But they don't... AMD won't release their high end cards for several months. Nvidia will most likely not have any competition at the high end until very late this year.

You can't say a mid range card is competing against a high end card.

And no, Nvidia were not exaggerating the performance. Here are the benchmarks they posted:

Capture.PNG

We don't know VR performance yet, but the other ones seems accurate.

The grey bar could just be 10FPS and the green bar could just be 15FPS. It is hard to trust "relative performance" graph without the actual data and

setup.

Not saying that the bars are 10 or 15FPS, but the point is it could be anything.

I don't read the reply to my posts anymore so don't bother.

Travelling might work, though that takes both time and at least some gas money, depending where you are.

If that 1070 price is true though, even with import fees it's probably cheaper to order direct from US. Import fees would be way lower than $220.

1080 on the other hand... that's a little tight. Might be better to just pay a little extra but your warranty is with the shop down the street.

How do the people who are blaming AMD for the high prices expect them to compete? AMD releases a new high end card, it trades blows with nvidia's then everyone buys an nvidia card because of brand loyalty, advertising or some tech features. The other issue is whoever has the highest tier card gets most sales, if nvidia has the best perf. card on top then their lower tiers will sell better because the average consumer sees the best card is brand X so the best low tier card will be brand X. Anyone who complains about AMD lack of competition should buy an AMD card instead then next gen around Nvidia might price it lower.

People will still buy these cards and Huang will get his money :D  I think Polaris may compete with the 1070 MAYBE, but probably not the 1080 which means if nvidia can advertise that it has the best gpu in the world and when they release a 1060 everyone will buy it because they automatically think it'll be better than anything AMD offers.,

There's a surcharge when crossing the border.

It's only taxes paid at the border, isn't it? I order from the USA regularly, and it's only the same taxes that get applied when shopping locally, which are applied as duty fees. That is, unless using a service like UPS, which has additional brokerage fees.

And taxes still need to be paid on those extreme CAD prices, if shopping locally. So, $1000 CAD, locally would be $1000 + taxes, whereas $699 USD would be $904 CAD + taxes. And for the 1070, ordering from the USA to Canada would cost $582 + taxes, which is a lot cheaper than $800 + taxes. I would say that buying from the USA and shipping to Canada would be the way to go, for Canadians.

Also, if you, or somebody you know travels between the USA and Canada, they can bring one into Canada and avoid taxes, if their time spent in the USA is at least 2 weeks. This is because taxes don't need to be paid on items brought back to Canada if the time spent in the USA is at least 2 weeks.

Buying in the US might be cheaper like 30$-100 CAD cheaper but you don't have a store that can just take the card and exchange it. You have to pay for shipping on ebay and seller on ebay usually charge 15-30CAD for used cards. As for taxes, duties etc, if you go there for a trip more than 2-3 days, you don't have to pay any. Also, you have to factor in fuel or air plane ticket and time too. But I mean, if you go visit family or have planned a tourist trip, you should save some.

I don't think the 1070 will be 800$ constantly. Maybe just at launch and will drop in a few months. Retailers will like to price higher just because the Canadian dollar is weak and uncertain.

Considering my rig, I give it at most another couple of years until it becomes far too underpowered for me to say it's a decent rig.

Torn between getting an SSD now and leaving the config in its actual form and overhauling most (if not all) of it sometime during early 2018 (a decent mobo and CPU would cost more than the entire rig right now and I'm having some financial issues lately, so upgrading is out of the question).

Hopefully the 980ti won't be out of the game by then

Whoever thought EU prices will be bad you might want to sit down again:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_st_date-desc-rank?keywords=gtx+1080&fst=as%3Aoff&rh=n%3A340831031%2Ck%3Agtx+1080%2Cp_6%3AA3P5ROKL5A1OLE&qid=1463412638&sort=date-desc-rank

$1000 for the GTX 1080 Founders Edition. Might as well get Titan X. Saw one last week on Amazon for same price. More RAM and better performance in professional applications.

That's pretty cool! Here only MSI and EVGA cards go lower in price and are the most commonly sold (not only for the 980Ti000) - around 700 euros. Strix and Gigabyte ones still go closer to and above 800. I haven't seen any other makers being offered here, so market limitation is a good reason to have higher pricing. Either way, drops are always expected within a month of a new generation launch.
