Which is actually a really good move for us customers.

Look, NVidia will most likely make less profit now, because they can't sell three or four cards per PC anymore.
The customers gain a better user experience and can potentially safe some money, if SLI scales better with the new SLI bridge.

Because it used to be that messages in any direction were limited to 1GB/s in bandwidth. Now bear in mind GPU memory doesn't stack in SLI. Now that message bandwidth is 2GB/s, but the interface has changed such that messages can only flow in one direction at any given point in time.

A stopgap until NVLink arrives for consumers (likely with Volta).

 

AMD can get up to 16GB/s if a single GPU is using a full 16x slot. That said, Nvidia partly uses that bandwidth too these days, but having a little extra is hardly a bad thing.

Jay just said in his live stream that the only correct portion about this is that Nvidia will only support it but they aren't limited to 2 way

JayzTwoCents dissaproved the only x2 SLI theory during today's techtalk, though he did not elaborate on who was wrong or why.

Apparently, while only 2x is officially supported, 3x or 4x would/could still work.

We'll see in a future video, since he said he'll be making one about this exact topic.

I'm playing at 4520x2560 at 120Hz, without much problems. It just takes some settings tweaking.

As for stuttering, so is the only time I remember seeing it, was when I had to use my stream pc to play games while doing maintenance on my main pc. Guess they should test 3x 4K with Gsync or Freesync next time.

I don´t think this is a big problem because 3 or even 4 way SLI is not as popular as single or dual GPU (and maybe this will give us better SLI Support?).

Please get rid of this, it's amissleading rumour. Edit it. But before that go watch Jay2cents tech talk. He has 3 1080s from Nvidia and he will 3 way SLI them. He also explains how this rumour was created.

I want to say that this rumor only came up because you probably only can do normal two card sli with this new sli bridge that you can get from nvidia. 

You now need both fingers for 2 way.
