Is Linus aware of this ?

I've been contemplating this over a minute ago but... this almost "industrialist" mentality to releasing videos will eventually inhibit his ability to grow, won't it ?

 

Look at it this way : By releasing more videos, information is more accessible, people know more, and as they memorize, patterns of PC hardware know-how get stuck in their head to the point where a new CPU/GPU release doesn't tell them anything new aside from performance increases and price differences. They spread that knowledge through forums, and eventually there will be very little to no need of LTT's existence.

 

I could definitely make a case for LTT's usefuleness before, but honestly... now more than ever before, I'm seeing video creators being schooled in the comments rather than the other way around. It only signals to me that the obligatory daily dose of videos is a temporary and short-sighted move for their business, inherently and however more complex explaining it may be... I can't think of any way LTT has any advantage over a spec sheet. Especially if you've watched at least a hundred videos.

 

To sum it up, I think their very strategy will be the very precedent to their doom. I can't be the only one anticipating this, can I ?

Stop bloating nonsense, and reason to contribute in a constructive manner.

Not exactly, looking at a specs sheet will not tell you things like how hot a thing runs, how quiet it is, how much power it consumes, is it well built, is there any problems with drivers/the software (such as programming Macros on keyboards), is the sound quality good, is it comfortable ect. This is why reviewers exists, so we can get other information that's not stated on the spec sheet that would affect our usage of the product.

if linus wouldn't make all these videos to inform people, somebody else would. so it doesnt matter if he makes it or someone else. sadly eventually all youtubers come to an end but i dont think linus is even close to it.

You are right in that there's less and less to be interested about, but Linus is moving away from reviews and benchmarks per se, and heading towards entertainment rather than usefulness.. He's diversified enough that he will survive.

Ehh..i dont know....some of his videos are still very informative and as always fun to watch. 

 

Any change in pattern I have noticed lately will be the greater emphasis on catering to an audience outside the subscriber pool, which is not really a bad thing. 

 

But stopping the daily videos routine might lead to their downfall. For some reason, there is a greater portion of the community disappointed with the recent content, and that is only going to be made worse with this move. Daily content is an important characteristic of LMG, something which they are known for. taking that away will be the thing that spells their doom .Also they wont be earning as much too, leading to him laying off employees....

 

So no. Let Linus carry on...

I'm not quite sure what you're implying. However, from what others are saying I'm guessing you mean that Linus steps aside from being the host and have other LMG employees host the current video series and what not that they've got going on?

Linus is kind of like the brands' mascot since he founded it and started it off by himself and maybe a couple other people who were behind the scenes.

i could agree for some channels but not ltt since i think many people come here to see the opinions that linus, luke ect. have on products more than the information for example the the razer blade stealth, i was set on buying that the second its available in the UK from the second i saw it however i still watch linus' video on it the other day as i wanted his opinion on it as someone i trust since i haven't been able to be hands on with it hes more than just a news reporter for many people hes a trusted source on if a product is good or not and many people will base spending £1,000s on his opinions just like many people decide to buy a video game or not based on totalbiscuit's review of it

4) The entire thing is very illogical. Take Wikipedia as an example. Do you think Wikipedia is scared of having so many articles that people stop visiting the site? Of course not. More articles will bring more people to the site, since it becomes more of a one stop shop.

They haven't even touched much of cameras  and brandon seems to know A LOT bout them, hope he explains a lot of the stuff one day

This is why they're becoming more focussed on entertainment, and slimming down on the tech side of things. They know there's a thousand other places to get the info, and they don't even cover launch events anymore since they basically have nothing to add. Linus and Co are very business savvy people beneath the geeky, fun persona. They know what they're doing, or they wouldn't have got this far.

No spec sheet makes up for benchmarks. And also, Linus is very much aware of what you said, as I'm sure you've noticed LTT has drifted more and more to "interesting" or "out of the box" tech recently, in stuff like the Holy $hit series, as well as more unique build logs and reviews (like 7 gamers 1CPU). Previously, their primary focus was on reviewing and bench-marking stuff (which is still useful, information can be gained that isn't necessarily shown on a spec sheet), but recently they have moved more towards a broader audience and a broader range of product reviews. 2 years ago, i would not have expected to see a review on some camera, or LED set lighting, or drone. Now products like those have been apearing regularly, and the amount of intersting build projects that they have been doing has drastically increased (scrapyard wars more regular, tech showdown, increase in server and extreme system builds, un-build logs, etc).

LinusTechTips will be a YouTube channel that will never fail. I will put money on this for 3 reasons.

 

  1. LinusTechTips covers tech things all in one convenient place without bias.
  2. They change to what society watches and covers new things (they keep their channel relevant unlike other channels, Minecraft/specific channels to a single game... etc).
  3. They already have a large enough audience with enough sponsors it would be hard for them to fall.
