But there's a HUGE difference there. Pilots are ever vigilant and are trained how to respond to alerts. A driver (probably someone texting and driving if my observations of the drivers around me most days are accurate) will do WHAT exactly when the system tells them a "situation" is imminent? 

Nothing, a crash will occur, unless it's an auto-driving vehicle and takes control and corrects the problem.

If this becomes a standard, people will learn to drive with the support, but what if it fails? Are you still allowed to drive then?

This will work IF and ONLY IF there is no connection to a larger cloud, and communications between cars take place between only the cars in the immediate area. If you have GPS coords, headings, speeds, etc. of every car, you are practically asking for the government to snoop around in all that information.

You do realize everything in the world today is made of "technology that can fail" right? Street lights for example, will fail.

Just last month we had a four way intersection go completely out and apparently our police were so stretched thin that time that the city didn't send any out to direct traffic. This went on for three days.

Within that three days, two major wrecks happened, one killing a 7 year old boy.

Shit happens. I hate it. What I hate even more is progress being held back by senile and/or just ancient thinking like you have.

We have so much shit today based around "technology that can fail" yet you're saying we shouldn't have this.

Normal technology (like street lamps) isn't the same thing as this. This is a technology that when it fails, the driver of the car will have to idea what to do whatsoever because before, their car did everything for them. I think you can see the problem.

How is that any different from how people live today? Or even how people drive?

 

I literally gave you an example to align up with this. The streelights went out in my example, and people were being dumbasses and didn't treat it like a 4-way stop; they weren't letting the first drivers to stop at the line go first. Taking turns is hard apparently.

 

Again, that is no different than this automation that the tech will provide. There's people who are legally allowed to drive today who have no idea how to drive anyways.
