Mechanical Keyboard Club!

Dave :)

What are some good keyboards with Cherry MX Blacks? I want to try some but I can't find some near my region (LATAM).

Pre-order, but probably well worth it.

You could also consider Kailh Box click-bar switches, which uses a metal click bar that a lot of people find to sound much cleaner, and can actuate a lot heavier too if desired. Also it does another click on the way back up. This kind of switch does not have hysteresis, which would be better in gaming usage, I suppose.

Personally I like Click Jackets much better, especially as the activation force feels much nicer, since the jacket slams down, when activating the switch, BLUE/Green with click bars are more like Brown switches, which I HATE.

Have gotten myself some gateron Green's and asked the seller for some 150gram springs to test out. [seller provided much more than I actually needed].

they are waaay to heavy for normal use, but great for those pesky keys you accidentally click. [caps lock, middle Enter key] on a [x-bows knight]. maybe a middle ground between 80 gram and 150 gram would be the ultimate solution

use Gateron greens for other non-essential keys. it works like a charm.

’Chew’s Keycap Sets!
(Left to Right, Top to Bottom)

KAT Alpha Blank Keycap Set
/dev/tty MT3 Keycap Set
OEM Fog White Keycap Set
POM Ink Keycap Set (742801246422958150.webp?size=20)
SA Classic Dolch Doubleshot PBT Keycap Set (742801246422958150.webp?size=20)
Classic Dye-Sublimation Keycap Set (Cherry Profile, 742801246422958150.webp?size=20)
XDA Gentleman Blank Keycap Set
EnjoyPBT Blank Black PBT Keycaps (Cherry Profile, In Use: K-4398)

Personally, would recommend these containers to save on storage space. Keycaps will be loose, but legended keycaps are easily identifiable, and blank keycaps can be sorted by rows.

20220724_183347.jpg

Generic Plastic Container

Dimensions: 11.81" × 7.87" × 2.36"

As far as I can tell, these containers are identical to Kinetic Labs’s Keycap Containers, sans the branding.

Kinetic Labs: $10.99 (1 pk), $19.99 (2 pk) | MaxGaming: €17.89 (1 pk) | Amazon: $9.99 (1 pk)

662096681248096266.webp?size=40

Alternative Container Options

  • JTK Polycarbonate Keycap Tray (Various Vendors): Storage option that displays keycap sets side-by-side. Short height profile, but long length and width profile. Popular among keeb vendors, but often back-ordered or only available by pre-orders.
  • Generic Keycap Tray (Amazon): Storage option that displays keycap sets side-by-side. Short height profile, but long length and width profile. A more accessible option (for Amazon US), if JTK keycap trays aren’t available.

Notes

  • Cherry, OEM, XDA, DSA, etc. profiles should be compatible with most aftermarket keycap trays.
  • OEM profiles may not be compatible wtih trays specifically designed for GMK keycaps / Cherry profiles.
  • SA profiles will need trays that are at least 16.5 mm in depth.

Hi everyone,

I have this G413 and I am wondering whether i can take out these romer g switches so I can put in new ones with RGB. Is this possible. I have seen people take out the switches and buy replacements but can i buy different versions with different lighting effects so it can look a bit nicer.

Thanks for any help.

It uses proprietary Romer-G switches, so you can't use regular Cherry MX style switches. RGB effects have nothing to do with the switches, it's all in the keyboard PCB. RGB switches are just transparent to allow the RGB to shine through.

Keychron V1, knob version with a mix of Blue and Yellow switches and YMDK carbon caps, temporary while the caps I ordered for it arrive, this set doesn't has the 1.75u Shift for he right side so it's rocking a upside down caps lock right now.

OK so that was my first time trying Gateron Yellow, previously my main keyboard was Cherry Red and secondary keyboard Gateron Blue.

Im sold for the Yellows, they feel great. I'm thinking about changing most of the keyboard with them, I originally bought 12 to test them out, but now I see they are similar to Gateron Black, but with 10g more actuation force.

Would Blacks be a big difference from Yellows? What I liked about yellow was that they are quiet but still feel firm all along the travel distance, unlike reds that felt like a wet noodle.is anyone using Gateron black for casual typing mostly gaming?

Yellows are heavier than reds but lighter than blacks. The particular type of yellow you're using (KS-9) aren't that smooth stock. I would recommend something like KS-3s or milky tops. KS-3s are smoother while milky tops sound deeper.  The only downside is that the backlight might not be as bright as the KS-9s.

Hello, thank you for the reply, Ever since that post I changed my number row and all letters to Gateron Milky yellow, and Black on the space bar and modifiers, the milky feels better for sure.

But now I have some Akko Jelly Black coming soon so I might do another swap.

Anyone have recommendations for a good keyboard using Cherry MX Browns? I'm looking for a full size keyboard, so number pad and everything. Preferably something with a decent wrist rest if possible.

I would go separate for a wrist wrest, as you'll get a lot more flexibility, versatility that way--vs trying to find something built-in.

Any recommendations for a cheap mechanical numpad I don't care if it's hot swappable or not as long as I can get it with tactile switches (NOT clicky)

I want to get a hot swap full size mechanical keyboard so I was thinking of getting the keychron c2(link) the problem is the version with the backlight is out of stock with brown switches so now I am thinking of getting the keychron c1(link) which is a tkl keyboard and that's why I am searching for a numpad
