Mechmarket will buy anything as long as it has RGB and China switches.

Hey all, is there somewhere in this 337 pages a list of recommended, mid-tier, wireless, full fat "gaming" keyboards? Thanks!

Honestly I would love to see Linus build a custom enthusiest keyboard kind of like a part 2 to the "Can You Build Your OWN Mechanical Keyboard??" video. Maybe something like building a keyboard with a less conventional layout like a 50% keyboard or something like this case, using more expensive switches like Gateron Inks V2(not exactly these) and lubing them. I think that would be pretty interesting.

Long overdue on the GMMK Pro.

Batch1 GMMK Pro, simple matching cable from Donut Cables. Gold rotary knob, Drop MT3 Camillo keycaps, Zealios V2 78g switches, and re-lubed the stabs with Krytox 205g0.

Now that it is available for order (no longer pre-order) it is one of the better options in terms of value.

Yesterday morning, I got a care package from my fellow subreddit (r/modelm) mod that included two keyboards! First up is a very cool NOS IBM 4683 Matrix Keyboard from sometime in the '80s. It was however opened up once by the sender to confirm what it was and what switches it had. The internal assembly is made by Key Tronic for IBM and uses Key Tronic’s Foam & Foil capacitive switches (supposed to be the tactile variant but it actually feels like very stiff linears). It also included a template kit and ‘windows’ for use with making labels for the keycaps.

The IBM 4683 is noteworthy for being the first PC/'x86'-based point of sale retail system from the company. And this keyboard is noteworthy for being a large vintage ortholinear keyboard/macropad (although even earlier ortho keyboards from IBM are known, such as the 254-key IBM Multi-Shift Kanji Keyboards of the '70s). Anyway, this was spiritually suceeded by the IBM Model M11 Modifiable Layout Keyboard in 1993, which was a dome with slider keyboard with an integrated magnetic stripe reader.

5.thumb.jpg.1c7a150252f679c8a89d65d5c4f049a2.jpg

The second keyboard is just an IBM 3471 InfoWindow terminal Model M that needs some work (fix rivets, dirty, etc.). It's rather unremarkable, although it has some history as it was professionally converted by a company (C.E.L., who were known for doing stuff like this to IBM keyboards in the '90s and early '00s) in 2000 to be used with a different family of terminals than it was design for. My best guess is that it originally was an IBM 3151 keyboard from the late '80s. In any case, I didn't have a C.E.L.-touched keyboard in my collection and now I've patched that gap up!

IDOBAO ID87 V2 TKL Pre-Order

IDOBAO ID87s are available on Drop! 2e0e7c2ea3efa3afcde30c621259771a3af8c5c0.gif

ZkxUcTTQgKAr9fz692Ms_23784.png

Pre-Order Date: August 4 - August 11(?)

ETA: January 12, 2022.

TKL fans rejoice! It's an aluminum keeb for sub-$200! 😁

Has an acrylic butt, so it's not an all-metal, chassis, but the specs look pretty solid. 👀

A friendo tells me that IDOBAO's had fitting issues in the past, however. Also, expect some machining marks or slight imperfections here and there.

Product PageIDOBAO ID87 V2 TKL from Drop.

Specs:

  • TKL Layout (80%)
  • ANSI Layout
  • Hot-Swappable PCB
    • Kailh Hot-Swap Sockets
    • Compatible with 3-Pin + 5-Pin Switches
    • QMK-Compatible
    • USB-C Connectivity
  • Integrated Plate Mounting? (Cheatsheet)
  • Per-Key White LEDs, RGB Underglow
    • South-Facing LEDs
  • Aluminum-Acrylic Chassis + Brass Weight
    • Colors: Black, Gray, White, Red, Purple
  • PCB-Mounted Stabilizers

🤔

Makes me think of the High-Profile Drop CTRL.

The CTRL has north-facing LEDs and plate-mounted stabilizers / switches, though.

A asus membrane, french ISO layout.

I got this yesterday from a garage sale, I asked the owner if they were from france.

Owner "no"

Me "well why is this keyboard french"?

Owner "I got it off of amazon"

Me "well I guess amazon had this in stock for some reason"

I think this is Asus from circa 2014.

Germany is very much in Europe being the representative or seller of foreign companies

But here ah it is strange since it says officially they are German side

But i can see many products sold have this written " German Asus in Ratingen"

like mouse and keyboards like here https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/asus-rog-gladius-ii-origin

i guess they care for these keyboards (like dong quality check stuff since all is made in China? )

you know what ... my client send me a computer with keyboard ... HP one : keyboard : it is written Germany too 😄 ahah

This is what makes more confusing.

It also has a British pound symbol.

QWERTY layout.

Canadian ICES markings

WHAT THE HECK IS THIS FROM?

British pound : because Canada is commonwealth and Queen of England is our Queen

Qwerty was chosen (quite logic not copying French keyboard especially with US near... by the way i don't get why they didn't choose US)

Canadian ICES

French because in Canada there is the obligation for administrations to be able speak both language (theory only because very few English speaking people speak French)

It reminds me when i was student in Netherlands : the students there always repeating that we are f....g dumb to care about French langage since we should all speak English as the international langage. Say that here in Quebec and you don't live long 😄 (sorry for out of topic :D)

I just use ansi and that's it ... I don't care much about iso layout and find it quite annoying with the short left shift.

EVGA RTX 3080 TI FTW3 ULTRA

32 Gb Crucial Balistix ddr4 3600mHz 16-18-18-38

MSI Z490 Tomahawk

Arctic Liquid Freezer II, 360mm

WB Black SN750 NVMe ssd

ANSI is annoying. If you are used to the large enter key from ISO you can't easily type on ANSI.

I've used iso all my life and the small enter key in ansi never changed anything for me ... the left shift is way more noticeable

Looks like a Canadian French keyboard we also have a CSA layout (Canadian Multilingual Standard), but that looks like French Canadian (but not the legacy layout) ;

CSA ;

Canadian French legacy ;

np, it's just weird that Amazon would sell that outside of Canada, doesn't make much sense.
