Do You Like Donald Trump?

Vengeance_K1ng

America has more than enough resources and money to deal with homelessness and other issues. But they don't prioritize it.

If they took even 5% or 10% of the defense budget and put it towards social problems, America could probably eradicate homelessness in under 5 years.

They could do it in 7 years with 5% and current costs.

The problem is it's not easy to gain access to said resources and money.

It requires change in leadership and representation.

In other words, get the old senile fogeys out.

Because the state makes more money selling it off or renting it.

I can drive 5 miles out of town and drive up to a endless horizon of unused state own land that is growing weeds and dirt that has not been used for as long as I remember and I am 41 years old. do not tell me that that land and several plots like that wouldn't be better used.

I'm not saying better used, i'm saying unaccessable.

You would have to take privately-owned land not from the state.

That's the only way, the state is not going to use that land that they've already invested money in for the sake of federal surplus housing to go against their own growth, i'm telling you we cannot take more refugees than we already have. It's not me saying it would be impossible to pack more because we lack the overall resources, it's me saying we lack the accessable resources due to priorities.

No, that's not how it works. People will always be homeless for a myriad of reasons . Money might improve their life to an extent, but it doesn't make it go away. Burning stacks of 100s to heat your home would be a better use of money.

How so? Provide subsidized housing, paid for by the Government, guaranteed to all citizens. That's a start.

Make a maximum wage requirement, and make the housing simple, with no frills, but of good quality. Set aside a fund to maintain the buildings every year. If you make, x amount of money or more, you have to provide your own housing. If you make y or less, you qualify. Have enough money in the fund to build enough housing for those who need it.

The other reasons for homelessness - eg: Mental illness, drug addiction, etc, can all be solved with proper healthcare and social services.

But of course, these entirely reasonable requests will likely never happen in America, because proper healthcare is scary and socialist.

High-quality healthcare and social services, meaning also investing in education and infrastructure.

The real problem is, again, how we invest in our federal budget.

America won't go for that, unfortunately.

They'll do what they did with Obamacare, cut it down so it's not what's needed but underfunded and not standardized then blame the plan that was not properly implemented.

That's how it's going to happen unless we rethink our priorities.

We need to stop getting involved in other countries' shit first.

We more or less already have those systems in place, in the form of section 8, food stamps, unemployment insurance, medicare/medicaid, chips, WIC, ACA, etc... And we still have homeless.

That's because those systems are either:

1. Underfunded, or

2. Not properly managed.

Homelessness can be fixed. But you need a concerted effort of cooperation from the Government. Not something America does well.

Bullshit to what? I'm saying those programs are in place and we still have a homeless problem... Is that not true? It's also ignorant on your part to assume I watch or read fox news as a sole source of information.

Bullshit those programs are in a position to do anything about the problem.

This is simple and I'll tell you the same thing I told the last person to not understand basic reasoning. Your comment proves the extent of your knowledge on the poverty issue in the United States. This is quantifiable, so ether you're pulling my leg or are clueless.
