The first encounter the US had with Muslim's as a country was in 1801 with the Muslim warship Tripoli. This encounter occurred because Muslim pirates were raiding American trading ships at the time and the USS Enterprise was the ship to face off with the Tripoli.

 

...ok, fair question incoming:  The supplies that the US ships were carrying were what? ...and from where?  :)

Personally, the berating of the current US president because he is a democrat is ridiculous.  Obama has some deep black marks on his record as president, but also has gold stars for attempts to better the nation he governs over.  The effort to make life better for US citizens is ignored a lot of the time, and his truly egregious actions are often set aside in order to promote an anti-democrat agenda. 

 

Anyways, he is a sincere president that has made some bad decisions (really bad ones)... but god damnit you idiots... George W. Bush was his predecessor, holy fuck.  That fucker was dumb as shit and did not give a flying fuck about any of you.

No argument from me there. I voted for Bush but he was a let down.

Personally I just want to see what happens if he is elected President. I mean a President can't even start a war so I wouldn't expect anything to drastic

A lot of people think it took place at Tripoli, which it did later but the first encounter was between the ships first, then the Marines saw action at a port in Tripoli.

 

 

OT: I am not sure what cargo it was per say but the Ottomans declared war with the US because Jefferson was against the tribute payments the US was making on the shipments already being made and refused to continue making the tributes which were increasing substantially overtime. Thomas Jefferson sent a squadron under command of Commodore Richard Dale to set up a blockade and address the issue. The USS Enterprise had its encounter and fought the Tripoli after it was sent to retrieve water from Malta, that is when it ran into the Tripoli (tore her to shreds).

 

I did cheat though I could not remember the Commodore’s name so I looked it up. I borrowed the picture to, I thought it was a nice touch, though I do have several renditions of it at home ( I am a big naval battle nut as well)

President Obama intervened militarily in Libya in 2011 without the Congressional approval required by the War Powers Act.

 

These are direct violations that are outside the limitations and abilities of the office of the POTUS.

Those three cover all your concerns. You are allowed to keep and bear arms under the second amendment, but you're also part of a militia by doing so and therefore under the jurisdiction of the executive branch and can be subject to regulation.

 

As for the activity in Libya that's been covered to death and he did not exceed his powers granted to him by the senate.

1) Article 1 and all of its sections of the Constitution refers to the given powers of Congress NOT the powers of the President.

   - This does not address the Executive power of the POTUS.

Anyone that has read or even skimmed the Constitution knows that Article 1 covers Congressional powers.

 

2) When called into actual service. I do believe you are completely mis-interpreting this. The President cannot commit forces to any country for any reason without consent of Congress. Even Bush got hit on this when he went after Ossama Bin Lauden in Afghanistan and Iraq.

 

3) The War Powers Resolution of 1973, requires the following: the President, upon sending troops into military action, must notify Congress within 48 hours that    he has done so. The Resolution also forbids military personnel from remaining in a state of conflict for more than 60 days (including an additional 30 days for withdrawal). After that, the President must seek an additional authorization from Congress or a formal declaration of war.

- The president did not notify congress officially inside that time frame. I know this from my time serving in the Army (I cannot reveal my source unfortunately, I am sure you can understand as I am bound by UCMJ here.) *but I will do what I can to find a reliable source to link.

Those three cover all your concerns. You are allowed to keep and bear arms under the second amendment, but you're also part of a militia by doing so and therefore under the jurisdiction of the executive branch and can be subject to regulation.

 

As for the activity in Libya that's been covered to death and he did not exceed his powers granted to him by the senate.

You didn't do as I asked.

By having arms does *not automatically make you part of a militia. You have to be organized. A well organized militia is pretty straight forward wording. Remember this is Colonial English not today's English language.

1) Article 1 and all of its sections of the Constitution refers to the given powers of Congress NOT the powers of the President.

   - This does not address the Executive power of the POTUS.

Anyone that has read or even skimmed the Constitution knows that Article 1 covers Congressional powers.

 

2) When called into actual service. I do believe you are completely mis-interpreting this. The President cannot commit forces to any country for any reason without consent of Congress. Even Bush got hit on this when he went after Ossama Bin Lauden in Afghanistan and Iraq.

 

3) The War Powers Resolution of 1973, requires the following: the President, upon sending troops into military action, must notify Congress within 48 hours that    he has done so. The Resolution also forbids military personnel from remaining in a state of conflict for more than 60 days (including an additional 30 days for withdrawal). After that, the President must seek an additional authorization from Congress or a formal declaration of war.

- The president did not notify congress officially inside that time frame. I know this from my time serving in the Army (I cannot reveal my source unfortunately, I am sure you can understand as I am bound by UCMJ here.)

And Bush did do the same, so please. I'm still talking to you even though I said I wasn't interested and have two finals I'm studying for. I'm more than happy to discuss this, but if you turn into a wounded duck or go partisan on me I have more important concerns.

I know you quoted the Constitution but others may not have known this, so I wanted you to specify that for others that are reading along.

I also carry a copy myself everywhere I go. It was given to me by my dad when I joined up.

I found that (don't know if your copy has these) the documents in the back are good reads as well especially the Virginia Plan and the Great Compromise.

Cool, I really am sorry this is a side project at best. Two killer finals tomorrow.

 

There are two kinds of students, those that spit and those that swallow.

The spitters (like myself) pretend to drink the coolaid the professor gives them but spit it out when they're not looking. The swallowers make the mistake, of swallowing it.

 

Every presidents job is to find every way they can to further their parties agenda, just as it's any politicians. But you literally can't have the longest running constitution and have politicians at any level ignoring it. Literally impossible. They can bend the rules so far its feet touch its head, but if they break the rule it wouldn't just be on one news source.

 

The danger comes from swallowing, and thinking everything would be OK if their party was in charge. Both parties would destroy this country in a generation if that happened. Obama made some decisions that flat out pissed me off, and I for one won't forgive what he said about my home town though I never hear it brought up by anyone that the president singled out an American city and told Americans not to spend their money here. But even that doesn't make him a bad president. I don't like Obama, but that's not in his job description.

 

I get why you're upset, and you have every right to be. But the constitution isn't like speeding. There isn't a line, just a direction. That's why it works, that's why it's got so few words making up it's message. Hell there are states that still don't honor amendments, mine included.
