I think it's reached the point to where the end user needs to be able to replace ( bad ) ram chips on a graphics cards.

With what? How? With HBM, it would be impossible.

how long should i expect to wait for a ti or titan version of pascal anyone have any ideas 

they are releasing the "big" gpu first, so next year.

Im waiting to see what both companies have on offer, amd 400 and pascal. I would prefer AMD to support them, but if pascal is good???

there releasing it at a similar time, so they can "crush" amds only 2 new gpus.(probably gcn 1.3 / 2.0

Is there any incentive for Nvidia to release any consumer level Skus featuring this architecture?  AMD isn't going to push them.  The only thing I can think of is 4k sets/streaming/tv broadcast becoming the standard/affordable for the masses.

 

When are we going to see Pascal?  Next fall at the earliest?

Can't wait to replace my 770 with a 1070 or whatever the hell they end up calling them.

I've had multidisplay driver issues FOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEVER.

Indeed. AMD tends to have the best 2D drivers, especially for multi monitor setups. I've never understood the hardware reviewers who has multi monitor setup using NVidia. Things like hydra vision and mixed resolution multi monitor setups just works on AMD no problems.

 

How often don't we hear these reviewers whine about their NVidia drivers sucking at just that?

 

I dont think they will be cooler, lower process nodes run hotter (smaller surface area) and they cram in more shit, so more heat generated. They may be more efficient, but effient doees not always mean cool.

Im not defending nvidia, your running a setup that is very niche, they have to fix isssues that EVERYONE has not just a small percentage of users. 

 

Depends. 16nm is not just a node shrink, but also a completely new transistor design in FinFet. So if FF is twice as effective and the chips gets twice as many transistors it should ad up. If the transistors can run faster even, they we might see heat going down compared to performance even more. However I don't think FF is THAT effective, but we will see a huge boost none the less.

AMD's Arctic Island cards based on 16nm FF will also launch about the same time. Since NVidia is already getting rekt in almost all parts than the extreme highend, when we look at price to performance, then yes, they have a lot to fear. Why do you think they are so fixated on proprietary technology, that causes vendor lock in?

AMD's Arctic Island will match Pascal just fine, using same 16nm FF process and HBM2, which is 1024 GBps. I believe Arctic Island so far are 3 series of chips, each capable of being x and non x variant, so a max of 6 new cards (although we usually don't see x versions of all of them).

Indeed. AMD tends to have the best 2D drivers, especially for multi monitor setups. I've never understood the hardware reviewers who has multi monitor setup using NVidia. Things like hydra vision and mixed resolution multi monitor setups just works on AMD no problems.

 

How often don't we hear these reviewers whine about their NVidia drivers sucking at just that?

 

Jayz straight up told NVidia's engineers to "fix their fucking drivers" to their faces.

He recently switched from quad monitors to a single 21:9. I have a feeling some of the reason lies with the drivers.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Just to be clear these cards are Tesla and Quadro cards, not consumer cards. I doubt we will see 16GB consumer cards (other than maybe a Titan). Most will probably be 8GB for high end and maybe 6 or 4 GB for low end.

Pascal (nvidia) and Arctic Island (AMD) should launch at about the same time. If Pascal's time limit on professional cards are H1, then gaming cards should launch from both around summer or fall.

Either way 16nm FF will be such a treat. Either we will see very cool cards or cards running very high speeds. Maybe a little of both. 2016 will still be one of the most interesting years in computers ever.

Wrong. 16GB is consumer flagship. 32GB is quadro and Tesla.

Maybe, but afaik there are no official sources to back up that claim. This post does not, and focuses on pro cards.

 

I'm sure all Pascal cards will use 4 HBM modules; the question is whether it makes sense financially/supply wise to use 4hi instead of 8hi on the gaming cards. Looking at how gimped the 900 series cards are (the 970 memory farce was nothing but a cost savings exorcize), it is in NVidia's business strategy to save every single penny they can, no matter the cost of the consumer. So I personally doubt they would go 16GB, as it has no purporse in the consumer landscape.

Well the Titan cards have always been horrible mutant cards, but somewhat useful for amateur content creators for video production. In that case 12GB made sense.

 

Sure a Pascal based Titan card might have 16GB, but that is a prosumer mutant card. Not what I would call a gaming card (even though NVidia does, yeah Titan is confusing). So for the (x)x80/ti cards, I doubt we will see 16GB.

This better be more then a 10% overall performance bump.

 

Look at how big a bump GTX 680 at 28 nm was over GTX 580 at 40 nm.

And the 680 wasn't even supposed to be the flagship, it was originally supposed to be the 670 Ti. You gotta think they were sitting on the 780/Titan since they could keep selling the 680 for $500, like they did with the 980 this generation. A true flagship to flagship comparison might be 580 vs the original Titan:

At this point, I'm most interested in nVidia's naming scheme for Pascal and Volta. Oh and benchmarks too. Do they go 1000 series, or something totally different from before.
