My thoughts on the recent "happening to LTT" threads

I have read both recent threads, which I'm sure you've seen, quite thoroughly. I thought a bout the situation awhile, and I decided I know exactly what's going on and while I agree with @Scia about the dumbing-down of the informational content, I can deal with the ads. In regard to why this is happening and where LTT is going...

 

I wrote this earlier and it was going to be a reply to the first "What is happening to LTT?" post, it's my own theory:

 

It's funny. Linus often complains in reviews and the WAN show about the customer service and in-genuineness of huge corporations like Microsoft and, I don't know, Dell for instance, both of which didn't used to be the way they are now. At least not when they started. It's similar to the large amounts of advertising on LTT. They grew rapidly, and now to stay alive and keep the momentum going, they have to resort to this stuff that the OP mentions. More ads, catering to a different, now larger audience. It's sad that so many wonderful things become this way, but it's just the nature of things. I plan to keep watching TQ, LTT, and WAN streams/videos just for entertainment until I get bored of them, and will actively post on the forums until all of you lovely veterans have moved on and left this place to rot in a hell of immature kids and flamers who come here for either genuine help (which they will most likely never get) or just to troll said people. There's a steady downward spiral happening, and I'm very disappointed to say this, but the Death of The Real Linus Media Group is beginning. Long live the carcass of fire and trolls to come.

 

TL;DR: I think the discussed degrading of LTT is an inevitable change and occurs in everything that gets big/corporate in any way. It's sad, but LTT is worth celebrating.

 

Please note that I do not resent Linus or his employees or even users of this forum for what is happening; I know that this is inevitable and it's been a great year and a half in the community for me, thanks to everyone. Have great adventures in the short span of enjoyable time ahead.

I felt like it deserved its own thread as it covers a more broad topic, the rise and fall of corporations anywhere. Also it's not re-expressing; I never posted this.

I knew LTT was doing something wrong (Come on guys why haven't we screamed at Linus for releasing the Scrapyard wars episodes a week apart) (Spoiler alert. Youtube people have 2 more episodes left)

 

Yeah every since vessel things have been going down hill.  

 

For it to come back up Linux has to "change with the times". Youtuber who upload one video per day are no longer sustainable unless you are Total Biscuit. There is no way around it. You need 2 videos per day to grow or maintain your size.

 

It's been great but the end of LTT is coming soon.

LTT just passed 2 million subscribers, only 14 months after they passed 1 million.  The channel has been active since 2011.  They are still growing fantastically, and are probably earning close to 100 grand per month.  That is a plenty stable and sustainable business model for a company their size.

I mean he doesn't go as deep as he used to into the hardware - go watch an old video; I actually felt like I learned something from those other than how much hotter a is than b when running Crysis at medium or something. Now I actually have to do research on things I want to learn a bout, not just go find an LTT video on it.

I haven't seen a decline in quality content, LMG is moving towards bigger things notably TV and probably film after that. This whole Decline Of LTT bullshit is just that, bullshit. Linus is running a business and he has to pay bills and pay his employees so they can live. Deal with it.

I would have to agree with OP. The quality in terms of content of videos has decreased and is decreasing ever so slightly. Visuals have ofc gotten better.

I just want them to go "boom look at this sexy thing, here are the pros and cons, heres how it performs, here is some sexy footage"

 

I dont need a 45 minute long explanation of what each switch, button, and option does, I can look that elsewhere

 

LTT is about entertainment, while still remaining relevant to the tech industry - I think its a balance they are still tweaking, but are doing really well with it

I don't think the death of LMG is happening, they've just moved so there are some growing pains as well as a lull in exciting new hardware and games coming out.

I loved the fallout video and channel super fun seems awesome (they seem to test new camera techniques on there as well) but I skipped this Scrapyard wars as it didn't appeal to me, the recent server video was excellent because it's not something I thought I would enjoy but did and it's nice to see that even @LinusTech has to ask for help sometimes.

Personally if your tired of the forums or the YouTube channel, go have a break, a month or 2. I did and it reminded me how much I love this community.

@LinusTech @Slick What turns me off about Linus's reviews are that they're too short. They feel so rushed. I'm not asking for a 30 minute video on Z series chipsets vs H series chipsets vs B series chipsets even though that would be quite nice. But seriously I'm considering stopping watching his reviews because to be completely honest the video quality is getting worse, the bullshit is real (it doesn't take 1 week to edit 1 video! Even if the person doing it is an amateur!) so he's covering for someone or his team is just that bad. His videos are not in depth enough. When i want to watch a LinusTechTIps video, I want to watch a detailed video which still manages to be somewhat entertaining. And frankly the lack of reviews recently is really getting on my nerves. And I have 2 side notes. 1. I'm not gonna watch another LTT video which is under 5 minutes. 2. WHo's idea was it to split Scrapyard wars 3 into 7 parts? PLease go and hit them with a bat. I actually am starting to Hate LTT and scrapyard wars because I'm like 99% of people. I'm an impatient bitch and I don't want to wait 1 week to watch another episode. It's one of the reasons I quit watching TV.

 

*Sighs* If linus wants people to watch LTT he's gonna have to eventually fix it. Now I'm more active on the forums and less active about watching LTT videos. TBH I couldn't care less if i missed a video whereas I used to care about that.

Exactly, I cannot bear to watch Tiny Tom Logan, out of a 1 hour video it's 10 mins of content, 10 mins of his opinion on the content and 40 minutes of listening to a dull drone waffling on & on about bull shit.

We all want different things out of videos, personally i rarely watch long videos, I dont have time to sit and listen to somebody talk for 30 minutes about something, id rather watch a quick 5 minute video while having a coffee than sit and watch a marathon of 1 hour reviews

 

and if you want that, other channels are more for you, its IMPOSSIBLE to cater to all audiences, 

Also editing shooting, editing and grading video takes A LONG time
