Nvidia plans to lock Game Ready drivers behind GeForce Experience registration

If their drivers were better I wouldn't mind.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

The issue is not the email, its using geforce experience to download drivers, instead of getting them from geforce.com/drivers, which means you can configure the install options, like clean installation and unselecting HD audio and 3D vision (and geforce experience for those who don't use shadowplay)

 

You can actually do that.

 

Everytime, I download my driver from GFE. Then, I just select custom installation, and deselect every option i don't want to be installed. You can also perform a clean install.

 

I doubt 90% of people do that, and just download and install the whole thing, I certainly do, I just let the whole thing install

 

 

Please realise that "because 90% of the population ..." isn't an argument.

Annoying as no one really wants to but honestly it's not too big of a deal. I used a dedicated email for junk like that anyways.

But you cant deselect GFE? And its a pain if you need to reinstall a driver also because its no longer placed in C:/nvidia/

I personally don't care, and am actually looking forward to it, but I have to oppose this just on principal. Rule #1 of getting respect - let people do what they want. On a related note, will this make it like Apple's IOS where you can't downgrade your version even when the current version causes issues? If so, this is going to be 1000x worse.

The same reason Google made G+ a requirement for YouTube (I know it got changed, and I know it wasn't required for a YouTube account)

Not a fan, unless some improvements get made to GeForce Experience. I like it well enough because Shadowplay is pretty great, but I've had several instances where I've been unable to download/install drivers through Experience and have had to go through their website instead.

I don't see why this is a big deal, so what if they have my email, I already use Geforce Experience to get drivers anyways.

You can configure the Installation with Geforce Exp. as well. I use it a long time and have zero issues with it.

I don't mind the email bit, but the people in this thread scare me. You all praise GFE as if it runs flawlessly, but i've had nothing but issues out of it. Am i the only one that can click on the GFE logo or exe, an have to wait almost a full minute before it pops up on my screen? Before you ask, yes, i have an SSD (Samsung 850 Pro) and multiple re-installs did not fix it. It was also abysmal when using my Nvidia Shield (Half the time, i would get a dropped connection on my local network, even when using the router Nvidia specifically suggested, along with meeting every hardware requirement). That being said, i have not touched GFE since i sold my shield a few months back. If it has improved in that short amount of time, someone let me know, lol.

Doesn't matter to me. I'm the type who updates every little thing on my computer as soon as I can, even when the game ready drivers are irrelevant to me.

Yeah. Like, if GFE actually worked when I installed drivers, and didn't break when doing random tasks, I'd be all for it as it'd be more convenient than going to their driver page.

Every time I've tried installing driver through it, the installation would fail.

I've had that happen twice with GFE too, but both times it was me trying to install a beta version (Nvidia Shield forums would tell people when to do the beta updates, as they would release patches to fix gamestream and what not). Like i said, it's been a few months since i last tried, but i do know my previous 1 year experience with it was not so great. 

 

That being said, is there anyone else here that has the same issue i had? Where it takes a long time for GFE to load after you open it? I cannot be the only one.

I use GFE. My only complaint is that it demands that I turn on the stupid unfocus off center settings in GTA V.

How is this big news at all? Legit I bet all people who get drivers are from geforce experience and already verified their email as a notice pops up that annoys you to do it. Like who goes to their website and downloads them that way? Plus it gives you a message when there is new drivers. I think this is a good thing

I've had that happen twice with GFE too, but both times it was me trying to install a beta version (Nvidia Shield forums would tell people when to do the beta updates, as they would release patches to fix gamestream and what not). Like i said, it's been a few months since i last tried, but i do know my previous 1 year experience with it was not so great.

That being said, is there anyone else here that has the same issue i had? Where it takes a long time for GFE to load after you open it? I cannot be the only one.

It takes a while for it to load for everyone if you have it set to scan your system for games.

Really not a fan of this move. I just don't see any reason whatsoever why Nvidia wouldn't let me install drivers without giving them my email. You might say "why do you care if they want your email" but I think you should flip the question around, why does Nvidia want my email just because I want to install some driver? I really don't see Nvidia's justification that it "will reduce headaches for both casual and hardcore gamers" holds any water whatsoever.

 

 

This will just cause confusion because I am pretty sure those 80-90% who already use GFE don't have a login to Nvidia to use it. Nobody I know with an Nvidia card does at least.

I don't mind the email bit, but the people in this thread scare me. You all praise GFE as if it runs flawlessly, but i've had nothing but issues out of it. Am i the only one that can click on the GFE logo or exe, an have to wait almost a full minute before it pops up on my screen? Before you ask, yes, i have an SSD (Samsung 850 Pro) and multiple re-installs did not fix it. It was also abysmal when using my Nvidia Shield (Half the time, i would get a dropped connection on my local network, even when using the router Nvidia specifically suggested, along with meeting every hardware requirement). That being said, i have not touched GFE since i sold my shield a few months back. If it has improved in that short amount of time, someone let me know, lol.

It's the same. I have an 850 EVO and it loads like its on a 2 RPM HDD lol. They really need to fix that.

Yeah. Like, if GFE actually worked when I installed drivers, and didn't break when doing random tasks, I'd be all for it as it'd be more convenient than going to their driver page.

Every time I've tried installing driver through it, the installation would fail.

It doesn't fail for me, it just takes for-fucking-ever and locks up half the time. So I have to just go do something else until it stops being fucked.

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Dubs are better than subs

The same reason Google made G+ a requirement for YouTube (I know it got changed, and I know it wasn't required for a YouTube account)

 

Now that would make trouble shooting my friends PC a hassle...
