Post your future rig plans!

Is this thread still a thing?

Short

- warranty my Unicomp Model M, the 2 key stopped working so now I'm using a K70 I had sitting around.

Medium

- X79 shuttle barebones will arrive sometime this month (had to import from japan) and see if it supports my xeon, if not I'll order a 3960X

Long term

- 4k monitor

About the cpu in medium term:

A 3930k or 4930k would be better(4930k)(and cheaper)

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

That GPU is killer...

Guys please tell me if you have suggestions about to make it better, thanks.
I gotta have my ass kicked for to have this. im poor :(

I want The Witcher 3 soooooo much
And i guess this would be future proof.

I will Add blue leds inside

I like music and i put value on sound so i may consider buying the sound card later.

I can wait for some other GPU like AMD Greenland too and buy APU until that huge GPU comes out and reasonable price i hope.

RIG: Intel Core2 Q8200, Sapphire HD 6670 1GB ddr3, Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L, Kingston Value 2x2GB, Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 320GB , 250 Watts of shit, Win7 Ult x64, Unknown shit case.

Yeah, however on eBay there's some 3930ks and 3960xs that are real close in price, and OCing will be in very small amounts due to only having 500watts to mess about with in terms of the power supply so if this xeon ends up not liking the mobos, I need all the performance I can get at stock speeds, or very close to stock speeds.

Oh, ok, if both chips are close in price, i would get an extreme edition too

Do not get an fx 9590, whatever you do. That chips is a mess. Just get an i5 or i7 it will perform better.

In what way its shit? if you say its heating there is a liqiud cooler on top of it.

But i know Intel has better single clock performance but this one has 8 cores

And Intel with 8 cores are expensive...

What realy bothers me is: I don't have so many options of MoBo when i select AMD CPU. (It may have upgradeableity problems in the future)

Maybe Intel Core i5-4690K would be better instead of AMD

Anyways thanks for the answer.

I honestly just want my E5-2660 to work with this board. Good enough for what I do and is faster than my 3770 @4.5Ghz dispite being about half the clock speed and a generation older.

Short term:

I need a power supply that doesn't have to stay outside my case for the cables to reach the cpu 8-pin ffs.

Medium term:

New gpu/s in 1.5 years, following my general upgrade model.

Getting a real cpu cooler.

A larger and faster ssd. I'm in no hurry, but eventually I want it to happen.

Adding more ram. Again, no hurry but I hope I get to up it to 16 or 20gb before my next build (a.k.a. cpu and motherboard upgrade).

Swapping my current motherboard for a (probably used) z77 model that supports integrated graphics and hopefully supports two pcie slots running at x8 speed. I'd use this to kvm windows into a corner.

Long term:

Eventually I'll need to upgrade my cpu.and motherboard, but for the time being the 2600 is still kicking some serious ass.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

I never said the chip was shit. The problem is that it isnt even fully stable , has a massive tdp, cant keep it clocks and is pushed to the limits of the architecture.

Buy a 4690k instead, for most tasks it will be faster

I worry the 970 Strix will vanish within the time I decide to buy another.

I think I'll probably end up either buying a new GPU then a new CPU and MOBO (dumping AMD for intel :( ) or just wait until I have enough to do a complete rebuild and keep my current system running as a server or something (or maybe just for nostalgia's sake)

  • 4 weeks later...

Medium term (A matter of days):

  • An actual CPU in my Main Rig (WIP)
  • An H100i GTX or a Hyper 212 EVO
  • A GTX 970 so my 960 can go from my main card to my PhysX card and I won't need my 480

Long Term:

  • 32GB RAM so I can run quad channel
  • Another 256GB SSD
  • A few matching 2TB HDDs, as my current HDD setup is super weird, with a 5900RPM 1TB, a 7200RPM 2TB, and a 7200RPM 1TB
