Box Box Box - Sim Racing Players Club [Now Hype Train Enabled!]

It's exactly the same as the other two P2Ps in the game - not necessarily a one and done A-B lap. In short, it's a shorter nordshleiffe basically. A one layout circuit, if you will. (if that helps)

Can you get air? Yes. Multiple times. There is one jump that is as high as the California Highway one, there are a half dozen other smaller humps that match Cadwell. There's crazy elevation change throughout the 7 km lap - very similar "length" to Spa but its got a Mojave feel when it comes to modelling. It is quite wide at some points, but thats not really a downside since on a fast lap you are constantly looking for space. The racing line itself is very flowing and adheres well to the geography.

I'll upload a video later today :)

Ooooh man... This might be my new favorite track in the game. Air, flowing corners, extreme elevation changes... Checks all my boxes. lol.

I just checked a little while ago when I was home for lunch to see the shape/layout. Looks like a lot of fun. :D

What could have been...

But it's understandable the legalities regarding the BTCC licenses and just how hard it would have been to track down info regarding the Laguna. Or so they say. Same reason why we wont be getting the Focus BTCC, because you face legality issues between branding the team and getting corporate approval from the manufacturer, then having to do it for every team in the series under that manufacturer. Won't be getting Macau either for cost and licensing for similar reasons.

A quickie x-post from the PCDC steam group where I talk about my recent experience with head tracking. It`s Monday, and I CBA to finish up my other upcoming content :)

---------

So after accepting not being able to stream (because no software handles CF 290s well) I decided to focus my improvemeny-of-life efforts elsewhere in the downtime between races. Bumped down my graphics settings from 1440p60 medium/high to 1080p90 ultra and now getting a solid 40-60fps depending on race conditions. Also decided to break out the TrackIR V5 I've had lying around, hence the thread.

Despite having taken delivery of this back in November, this is actually the first time I`ve used it. Was looking to fast-track my hours in some online randoms when Extrovert sent me an invite out of the blue, which I gladly accepted. Lo and behold a GT3 race at Silverstone GP, with ICE, mrbullet, paulyk and even maddog in the lobby! (Was hoping HowGudAmI would join us, but he went off to play with some silly trucks)

Had a good battle with ICE during qualy and would have managed a 2:04.1 if I didn't cut (sorry if I held you up!). Race start. mess up my procedure and get a penalty for rolling; fast-forward a few laps and accidently tapped paulyk going into Copse (sorry again, gave it a bit too much throttle!) which dropped me right to the back. Pitted for the drive-thru and spent the next 7 laps fighting through the pack.

^ as you can see, I'm still adjusting to the movement tracking but it`s getting there - with time I`m hoping to become at least half as fluid as Yorkie! (note: this is Bandicam recording at 1080p, which should have increased quality over the previous downscaled 1080p - if it`s not at this res when you watch, YT is most likely still processing). Excuse my driving as this setup is still for the old tire model, so RIP left side tires. :P

Thoughts: as an immersion device, this is definitely a worthwhile and cheaper alternative to something like the Occulus CV1 which costs US$600 (or CAD$1000 at the current rates). While the TrackClip Pro (TCP) is an additional item you have to add to your headset, it never really gets in the way so long as you give it enough cable leeway. That being said, it's not perfect - with the infrared sensor "base" sitting atop my monitor, it will still occassionally lose the IR LEDs on the TCP - say if you put your hands in front by accident - which will result in your POV going crazy and snap outside of the map/car. It's a game of sheer chance with changing views and mashing the "center VR headset" button to try and resolve the issue, which is obviously not ideal when going through a sector with multiple cars around you.

Speaking of centering, you always have to be mindful of your head position relative to the base, as the nature of IR means you always need to have a clear line of sight between the two in order to maintain the correct angular tracking. There is also a "deadzone" at the origin (0,0,0) in order to give some leeway for slight head tilting, which takes a bit to get used to compared to SMS' initially more fluid look-to-apex function (once you get used to it, you can often track much faster on your own). One clear upside that TCP provides is how it handles the 3D space - physically moving your head around will also do the same for your POV in game, similar to the Occulus DK2/CV1. Wan't to zoom-in on your MoTeC display? No problem, just shift your head over your wheel. Wan't to free-look around your cockpit? Go right ahead.

Overall this is one item I'm content with having purchased and sits right up there with my SLI-PRO in terms of enjoyment. While some of us here have upgraded to triple monitors as of late, this still remains an affordable (relatively) alternative to expanding your FOV whilst keeping your hardware to a single monitor. Funny story, I had recently added two additional monitors (VN279Qs at a virtual 2K res) to my existing MG279Q but crossfired 290s aren't nearly powerful enough to drive 3x1440p at high settings. For now, I am limited to just the single freesync panel with telemetry/hardware monitoring on the one monitor and teamspeak/stream on the other (a good compromise if I say so myself).

Hope your own head tracking testing is going well! (HowGudAmI)

Picking up a 3rd monitor tonight for just $10

Another Acer 19" 1440x900 (900p) which matches the secondary monitor I'm running right now. Will position it on the other side of my Asus 24" 1080p for a surround setup. I'm excited to explore the possibility of running surround on all 3 in racing games. :D

I know it can be done as people do mix monitor brands, sizes and resolutions with surround setups and they do work. Will post pics later tonight if I get it all working. :)

Now know why that monitor was only $10. VGA input only. lol. It's in great condition and works fine, regardless. but because I now have to use the only DVI port on my 980 for this monitor, and because the 980 only has one HDMI port (the rest are display port), it meant that I couldn't test out the surround setup last night. :( But, I will be picking up a DP to HDMI today and will have it up and running tonight, without a doubt! :D

@chaozbandit - Love the C7R, don't get me wrong, very happy to see it coming to the game. But do we really need another GT3 car? lol

I'd like to see more classic DTM, GTO, GR.5, GR.A stuff. Maybe some old school Can-am cars? I think I'm in the minority in this regard though... :P

I know the feel. I have my main monitor (MG279Q) hooked up via displayport, but the only other options on the 290s are DVI and HDMI. So I have one VN279Q hooked up via HDMI and the U2312 via DVI, though Ive made precautions to include a DVI-HDMI cable in my wiring harness for the monitor stand for when I take delivery of my second VN279Q in a few months time.

We don't, but this is a GTE car that has been heavily requested by the community both in terms of moving to the more "technologically advanced GT classes" and because they're so popular in IMSA and at Le Mans. Oh, and with the recent victory at the Daytona 24, you can bet the community has been bombarding them with questions and "what ifs." Plus with the Chevrolet license, it opens up doors for future GM content and Cadillacs (the old LMP and ATSVR) have come up.

SMS have said on their instagram that the February DLC will be the most varied yet. We'll most likely be getting the GT cars and at least 1 road car, with the possibility of fast-tracking a stock car or the indy car. If not this month then we'll be for sure getting the AMG GT and a couple more road cars in March, with the steamDB reporting a Ridgeracer DLC (JDM cars) for DLC #10 (March) and the Ford Oval Racing DLC for DLC #11 (April) so who knows.

1600128_orig.png

^ from the e-sports / SMS drivers network championship update for 2016, which brings both fixed and open setup series for players to compete in

I'm with you for wanting the older classes, and they're not as niche as some make them out to be (especially with the younger guys). The issue is that in the majority of classes theres 1-2 cars at best, and it doesnt look like they'll be bringing any more for PC1 because of licensing. Especially with touring cars and DTM.

But what do I know, I'm not a WMD member. SMS could always pull a surprise on us :P

Triple monitor fail. Didn't work. Forces all monitors down to the lowest common supported resolution, which means my center 1080p display was forced down to 1440x900 and it looked horrible. :P Couldn't find a workaround that worked.

Oh well. Single monitor is fine for me anyways. Will just keep the $10 monitor as a spare.

So it's been a while, here is (briefly) what I've been up to! It's exam season again so I'll be busy doing that. Reading week and auto show starting next weekend, and I'm off Friday to pick up a new-ish-old car.

Content is going from most recent to oldest.

MY FIRST TIME DOING WELL IN QUALIFYING!! On a track I'm not too particularly fond of, I managed to do a PB with 2L of fuel left which was good enough for P4 out of 20 starters. The top 3 all did 2:03s WITHOUT drafting so I have no idea. You can see in the first race clip afterwards just how quickly they pull away, while I struggle to do 2:07s. A minor lapse in concentration meant I overshot my braking point and crashed into the wall. Bam, P5-P16. Would later climb to P10 but would repeat the same mistake, IN THE SAME CORNER, at full race speed. Suffice to say I ragequit pretty quickly after losing both front wheels.

Jumping back to Assetto Corsa, a clip from my latest RORA race at Brands. Ever since I started recording with Bandicam and using the GPU accelerated codec, my system always drops a HELL of a lot of frames after 45-60 minutes of recording. Don't know what causes it, can't replicate it when it's just my own car on track - pretty hard to predict let alone compensate for. Here's a clip of what it looks like when the frame drops come at the WORST possible time - I knew I was the slower car in the Z4 and was defending pretty hard for the better part of 10 laps. The SLS is torquey but it sucks out of the Z4s draft so the last sector was key. What do you know, the frames start dropping as we're side by side approaching hte last corner.

And what the start of the race looks like! Using my first setup from the first RORA race, I was feeling MUCH more confident and managed to finish P5 (though with 9 starting cars, this is by far the smallest field I've seen for a 90 minute race).

Back to pCars and my beloved R8! Snetterton is a track I have all of 2 hours practice on, including this race. Suffice to say I wasn't too keen on it, and I was once again the only R8 with a setup NOT suited for the track. Pace was extremely off and completely botched the start, though with a damaged car I managed to keep up with Beppo surprisingly (who uses a controller). Unfortunately his pace on fresh tires was too much for me and I gave up after the pit stops.

A fun battle in PCDC, in the rain, with default setups! I'm finding more and more that Extrovert are pretty similar on pace whenever we're on track together.

High speed testing with TrackIR! P1 is the fastest car I've wheeled to date at 248 mph, though I know for certain that the Sauber C9 can go just as fast and the Radbull MX5 does 251.

This one is super old but here's me driving around Bannochbrae.

And to finish off with a race I'd much sooner forget, my second race with RORA at Monza with a completely botched setup. Was a good 10+ seconds off pace and the car was undrivable for long stints. Of course, it doesnt help when the one guy you're racing has shit racecraft and keeps taking you out.

I'll have plenty more footage rendering overnight :)

If they do only end up with one type (most likely) I hope it's the road course aero since there are no oval tracks in the game (yet).

It will be the road spec first judging from the ? placed on the cars page. Ovals are expected for DLC #11 so around April, but theres not much information on them other than Indy and Daytona being the two most likely tracks based on those being the most "finished." AI is also an issue and SMS havent announced whether they would do a reverse Mojave and release it as MP only.

February will be a car-only pack, with 4 paid and 1 free car. Most likely the Chevrolet-kitted Indy in conjunction with the C7.R. Note the lack of a ? where you'd expect an AMG GT3 or an Aston GT12 to go so whatever is in the A slot is a wild card (and the cars probably held off for March). Maybe the upcoming Alpine concept car? Maybe the Alpina B6 GT3.

Not expecting SMS to brand the Indycars as Dallaras either though it is possible.

Launch date is sometime at the end of the month, as revealed via instagram.
