LoL yup, each racer to their own line I guess  I typically like to run my cars with less aero so you can manage the turn-in with throttle but you lose in braking distance. Recently developed a habit where I drive a tad conservatively as if to prevent mechanical faults, but mostly to just manage front tire wear (since theres little to nothing you can do about rears) - but hey, I guess that comes with doing 6 hours of league racing a week

 

Just for S&G decided to see what kinds of times I could pull. The laps I used before were recorded back in Patch 6 (I think) - not too bad for the first lap of a time trial ! At first you think you're carrying too little speed for that gear, but then you wait for the low-wing settings to kick in and you rocket off. The car becomes much more momentum-oriented and it disciplines you into nailing your braking.

 

1:20.096 puts me at #5 on the leaderboards at the moment, #1 is a 1:18.446

But have this 1:20.9 instead! That last trip into the sand probably cost me a second, but I'm expecting to come back in a months time.

Also finally got around to hooning the new R8... first impressions are that, pace-wise, it's near on-par with the outgoing LMS Ultra albeit much more stable feeling in its stock config. The one differentiating factor I've noticed is in the braking, whereby the 2015 car just doesn't feel natural... the grab point is much sooner and more aggressive which makes trail-braking quite hard, and I ended up spinning the car while in a turn but with the lightest of pressure on the brake pedal. Then again it always happened in a 3rd gear downshift, so I could just be not used to the new dynamics having spent so many tens of hours in the older R8. Haven't driven a long enough stint to talk about the deg on this car but if it's anything like the old car I expect them to last quite a long time into a stint, with the fronts going slowly before a sudden drop-off.

 

But hey, two back-to-back 2:18s ain't too bad. Surprisingly SMS don't block mods from using the time-trial feature, though I doubt the times will show up on leaderboards.

Welp this pretty much confirms the Aston Martin GT12 as this month's free car, which is odd because it doesnt quite line up with that the website teased. Either they're intentionally throwing us a curveball, or someone dun goofed. Still, will this live up to the hype as a replacement for the DP212? We'll have to wait and see.

 

They weren't kidding when they said this would be the most diverse DLC pack yet. 1 GTE car, 1 GT3 car, 1 Stock-car, 1 IndyCar (both Chevy and Honda with 2014 road course aero), and a road car for the free entry.

Just cleaning up my gallery in game. First time I've taken uncompressed steam screenshots with the CF 290 setup, although the video is from when I was still running a single card so not sure how much info the replay has retained/reproduced since then.

 

I hate the sausage curbs at Hockenheim. Or anywhere, really.

I can't wait either! Definitely hyped for this one, more so than Stanceworks (even though we got an awesome track). Bring on the 'vette!

 

As for the Glen... my last race there, didn't go so well lol.

 

Qualied P9 but forgot to turn on Crew Chief so going through the esses I swung wide and my car "stuck" to the car behind, which punted me to the right and bounced back to the left - when I tried to correct I collected the RUF behind. Fought my way back to P9 where I would later finish, but would have liked to chase my teammate through to P7. Would have made it too had I not been held up by the guy in P4 (who was no-stopping on harder compounds) but he never gave me room even though I was indefinitely faster (has having dropped back several seconds and caught right back up within 3 laps) - but oh well, it was really my mistakes that held me back. Trying to make a tight pass on the inside of a hairpin i jumped the inside curb which sent me around into a wall - 14 front left suspension and 28 aero damage for the rest of the race. Held off P10 right to the last lap although he would have passed me sooner or later.

Really, I have you to thank because I adopted a lot of your suggestions ;), like using 4th instead of 3rd on a bunch of corners and staying wide/braking early for T1 etc. And there's places where I can shave more off, it's just a matter of stringing together a perfect lap (yeah, right, lol). 

 

Made A LOT of changes to the car setup. Turned the sway bars all the way down, brought the rear spring rate down a little and the front spring rate up. Reduced rear aero. Left tire pressures at default. Car turns in better and mid-corner/corner exit grip is much improved. Don't think I can pull a full second off the time, but maybe another few tenths.

No worries, happy to call it a draw. Honestly I didn't leave much, if anything, on the table with that lap. How that guy in 1st ran a 1:18:4 is mighty impressive. 

 

Tweaked some settings again which seemed to help; lowered tire pressures a bit, turned aero down to zero (front and rear) to rely solely on mechanical grip and try to gain just that little extra speed on the straights. Used KERS, but I couldn't tell if was actually doing anything, lol.

Snippy Snippets from last night's RORA race!

 

 

Clip 1 - the first race start, people mid-pack completely botch it after forgetting that tires get stupid cold in this game during a formation lap

 

 

Clip #2 - halfway through the race, starting to feel exhausted and lacking a bit of concentration and with two mclarens chasing me down, we miss the calls over TS (because they aren't frequent enough and I have mine too quiet) and over-shoot T1 at full speed under yellow. Had we not taken evasive action we would have plowed into the back of the field, but this incident would have resulted in a massive black flag for me and Tyler.

 

 

Clip #3 - hammer time. The second last yellow flag, I'm on fresh tires and fueled to the end of the race. Only managed to do 1:53s, 1:54s the whole race but fairly consistent compared to the 1:51s of the front pack (and those that qualified in sub 1:40). From here on out, I'm defending from 3 McLarens behind me and the front runners get into a tangle, so I eventually pass them. I would later have to let them filter through as I know my pace is off but it was quite a good battle for P3.

I'm assuming you guys have one person who is a track clerk and calls the shots? (caution, green, etc.) 

 

Trying to find a good free video editing software so I can splice together highlights of races. Had a good race last night in MP but it's 4.8GB and will take a long time to upload the whole thing.

Yeah haha it was tricky getting it stopped on such a short run-off and without over-shooting and re-entering the track. The Z4 definitely wasn't fast but the cautions at least let me catch up to the front half of the field for a little bit of fun. Not much can be done with such a small grid size.

 

There isn't really a track clerk per se in RORA. Unlike PCDC where incidents are called out by players, RORA sort of revolves around something happening, then the leaders discussing what to do, and then a decision on whether to hold a yellow a minute later. Formation laps here are also a mess because of the way AC handles cold tires at the start of a race and nobody really holds the 62 (100k) limit so everyone is just rotating at 70% race pace; for whatever reason they designate the person who qualified LAST to call the green.

 

If you want a free video editor with tons of powerful tools, I'd recommend lightworks. (https://www.lwks.com/) The free license limits you to 720p exports but it offers a heck of a lot of the same features of any non-linear video editor, and much of the same functionality as the studio-grade license ($400 US). Of course if you're looking for other "free" options then you can't go wrong with Sony Vegas 13 to get you started, and then moving onto Adobe Premiere if you've developed your skillset and want more flexibility.

Thanks, will check out those programs. I've heard other people mention lightworks. Would like to retain the ability to output/upload to YT at 1080p60 if possible but 720 is good enough, considering the compression loss in quality through Shadowplay (which isn't too bad, actually). If I really get interested in it, perhaps I'll jump on Lynda.com and learn how to edit with Adobe Premiere.

Race Room Racing Experience is adding Formula Juniors to their ever-growing car selection. Will probably buy this add-on as I love these open-wheeled, over-sized go-karts. With no aero assist, they look and probably perform very similar to the Formula Rookies of PCars.

Wow... this is surprising, sort of. Patch 9.0 was initially queued by steam at 7AM EST and he had these videos up right at 9AM EST. Granted, his time zone is 12 hours ahead of mine and his driving doesnt show much speed as developed by hours of practice, but still. Your classic case of "FIRST"
