You've got to give it to the man... for somebody whose wife had just given birth right as he finished the DLC trailers for Stanceworks, he still manages to satisfy the rest of the pCars community with these teasers!

Make up for lost time you did, Ed. Keep at it!

That C7R is gonna be epic(cadillac can go die in a fire, ugly ass **** ****** ***  ** *** dog ****** **** fish ***** sawdust(had to get that off my chest))

Anyways this is the type of dlc im interested in, you have my undivided attention SMS, you have that sexy protagonist which is the C7R, you have the ugly cadillacs as the antagonist(apologies in advance cadillac AI, i am gonna hunt you down) and the indycar(s). I think one more is coming, maybe the amg gt gt3 im not sure but that car is sexy as hell even though i hate it because mercedes isnt porsche.

gosh racing games are turning into JRPGs, you have the beautiful protagonists(the rufs, the porsches the corvettes), the one midget(Z4) and then the ugly main bad guy(cadillac), the weirdly sexy bad woman lady(amg gt).

Pcars 2 campaign is gonna be about winning races to save the world from the evil GM overlords.

*sigh* that's once again disappointing.

Mind you I'm not a fan of any American cars, not sure why but they just don't do anything for me.

Not even if they dominate US sportscar racing and le mans? Trust me, if you ever get the chance to listen to the thunder that is the C7.R live, in person, that'll change your mind. It's LT1 louder than even the M157 in the SLS AMG or the S65 in the Z4.

The IndyCar will be giving much needed variety to the far-from-lackluster single-seater classes. The Cadillac... well, it's not everyone's cup of tea but the ATS-V.R is an amazing car in itself despite not being GT3 homologated. The twin-turbo V6 is much better than the v8 in the older car and it easily bests the 650S GT3 and Continental GT3 at some tracks.

Ehhh, last time i watched a race... Was probably F1, which even then sounded terrible (This was the year they kinda messed everything up)

So i wouldn't really care, as for the sound of the C7.R, googled a video... Sounds like what i expected, a deep, muted, grumbley, sound which I've never really preferred...

Looking forward to the Indy car somewhat, other than that, none of it tickles my fancy.

I want more verity with cars, we have enough European and American cars, but barely any Japanese (Which I've loved since the day i was born) cars. I know why there's a severe lack of them, but i just want to race 5 generations of Godzilla around Sazuka...

Oh well, I'll keep waiting i guess...

I wouldnt really say dominate, the only race they were fastest in was rolex 24, last year the 911s gave them a right pelting(tyre development ftw). They won le mans because ferrari and aston martin somehow decided they dont know how to drive anymore but they were not close to being fastest. Not taking anything away from them but they didnt dominate.

The car sounds insane. Seriously hope SMS dont crap out on the sounds. Well it cant be worse then kunos's sounds(well the 1.4 sounds at least, the 1.5 ones rival even raceroom)

Great race last night in PCars. :) Some guy who added me on Steam from a random MP lobby last week invited me to their lobby last night. Brands Hatch GP in prototype 2 cars. Not being familiar with this class, I chose the Caterham SP/300R simply because nobody else did, lol. I had a hunch the Radical SR8-RX was probably the quickest in this class (and that’s what most were using), but I like a challenge.

maxresdefault.jpg

(^not my screenshot).

Joined with 7 minutes left in a 30 minute practice stint, made some quick adjustments to the setup of the car and ended up 7th quickest (didn’t have time to get in a clean lap on warm tires). Next was 15 minutes for qualifying. Got plenty of clean laps in and made a few more minor adjustments. Qualified P3 out of 14. The person who got pole was in the Radical SR8, un-surprising and his pace was about 1 second quicker.

A 5 minute warm up commenced before the race and then it was go time. 30 laps was the race length and I immediately started to sweat because I only put in enough fuel for…. 30 laps! :o Was thinking; this is either going to be extremely close or I’ll end up losing my sh*t if the car dies on the last lap. lol.

Race starts, guy on pole jumps before the green. That’s an automatic drive-through penalty for him! 3 of us battle for P1 around the first lap when about half way around, it tells me to pull in for my mandatory pit stop (on lap 1? lol). Was happy to see this as it meant I’d have enough fuel to get to the end for sure. I pit and come out in P6. The other cars are starting to spread out already making it fairly easy to pick my way back towards the front. Surprisingly, they all allow me room to pass unlike what you usually get in PCars MP (rammed off the road). The leaders eventually pit, handing me P1. Put my head down and concentrated on hitting my marks, staying consistent. I was not the fastest car/driver out there as Crewchief often reminded me. Still over half-way to go and a lot can happen. Gap between me and P2 grew to as much at 18 seconds, but by 5 laps to go, that started to shrink considerably. I don’t know how exactly, but the guy in P2 found some serious speed and must not have had much lap traffic to deal with because he made one heck of a charge to the front. Reminded me of Chiyo on his final laps of the Bathurst 12 hours last weekend. ;)

2 laps to go; guy in P2 is getting closer in my mirrors. The rate at which he caught up to me, for sure, with one more lap, he would catch and pass me for the win. But that’s not what happened. To be honest, I’m not sure what exactly happened. Final corner on the 2nd last lap, I see him run wide in my mirror, then dive across the track into the pits. My jaw literally dropped! He just handed me the win! By mistake or on purpose, I don’t know, I didn’t get the chance to ask. Recorded the last few laps because I thought for sure it was going to be a last lap shootout…

What a great race though. Everyone kept it clean and respectful, even when side by side. Slower lap traffic yielded kindly as I flashed to pass. Why can’t they all be like this? :P

Video will be up a little later today. Uploading  right now.

Oh ho ho... the SP300R, now that's a car I'm VERY familiar with :) On a side note, don't follow the in-game fuel estimates to the tee. The way they calculate it is much higher than what the car actually consumes at race pace, and consumption is lower when there's inclement weather. The easiest way to calculate fuel is to open up telemetry apps (like pCars Profiler) on a second screen and manually monitor your fuel consumption in practice and quali. General rule of thumb for these cars is 2L per lap is VERY generous, and often they consume 1.3L-1.7L depending on how long you're at WOT. Monza is particularly fuel-heavy with the straights and fast sweepers - fuel consumption was ~25L per 30 minutes (17 laps).

But yeah the disparity in speed for the LMP3 cars is pretty drastic. The SP300R can keep up on the majority of tracks with the SR8RX but given any straight section and the gap widens, even with the KERS boost. The SR3-RS on the otherhand is much, much slower everywhere but has similar handling traits. The Jaguar-Palmer is by far the slowest of the lot but good fun regardless.

Oh ho ho... the SP300R, now that's a car I'm VERY familiar with :) On a side note, don't follow the in-game fuel estimates to the tee.

I've had my fair share of fun LMP3 battles, but partly because I'm doing a season of it right now :P

Good to know about the fuel. Yeah, by the end of the race I still had some 12-13L remaining. Oh well. :P

As for the cars, I knew the SR8RX was faster, but I have used it before and struggled a little with it because of it's speed and reduced stability. I knew the Jag and SR3RS were the slower of the bunch, but the SP300R I remember from trying it a few times, was decently quick and very balanced. Figured I'd be better off choosing a car I knew I could be more consistent with and would make fewer mistakes with vs just choosing the out-right fastest car. Well, it paid off in the end. I only dropped my tires off the track a handful of times and it was no more than 2 at a time. ;)

That turn 1 at Brands Hatch is one I've always struggled with. You're coming in fast, the track is banked and you have to brake while turning (depending on your approach). Then the track falls away as you turn in, reducing grip even further. I found myself staying more to the center/right side and braking while keeping straight where the pit exit joins the track. Certainly not the quickest way to do this corner, but I found it to be consistent, safe and fast enough. Aside from the guy that was catching up to me, I was still setting some of the fastest lap times, so it couldn't have been that slow. :P

How do you usually approach turn 1 at Brands?

The SP300R is my favourite car haha, hence why I made my own custom livery for it in the beginning (its simple but it'll do).

Odd I don't have a video for Brands yet, surprisingly.

General rule regardless of speed or vehicle weight (for me) is to start braking right at the second-last sign board (if not a little after), if it hasn't been taken out yet, and staying as far track-left as possible (this gives you room if somebody dive-bombs you and pushes you wide). Get the majority of your speed scrubbed off before you start turn-in but make sure not to lock up or you'll shoot straight off into the gravel. Trail brake when you've shifted to the appropriate gear (usually 3rd or 4th depending on fuel/tires) and try to swing the car as far right as possible to give yourself a good exit as you come down the hill.

12698516_10153769868601815_3226746506337

When you get to this point you should be thinking of powering out. Apply as much throttle as you think you need to smoothly swing back left to the curbs, but apply more if you are confident you can get the left side tires on the green stuff (not too far or you'll hit the gravel). Then it's just a matter of power down to T2 and braking just before the bridge.

One thing to be careful about is the pit exit, since its a blind corner pretty much and without racing in a league, nobody really calls out "exiting pits" via the radios.

Not the best lap and I braked pretty early, but because the track temp was cold and I was in the R8.

Of course, different games model the hill differently.

Ah, ok. See I'm braking way later. :P That's probably my main problem. When I stay track-left and brake, I can't always get the car to turn in. Sometimes it will turn in nice and carry me down past the apex and I can get on the throttle early. Other times, the car just doesn't turn much at all and goes off on the gravel (before the track dips down). Even if I brake at the same point, this behavior has always been inconsistent, regardless of what car I'm driving. This is why I took the center/track-right approach in that last race (not so much in the final laps as I was pushing pretty hard though).

Will have to give it more practice and will try braking earlier like you did. Looks a lot faster than what I was doing, lol.

So fast tracked this because I had a bit of spare time.

Your laps for reference:

And my hot laps from a 30 minute session; fastest was 1:22.54 with plenty of fuel and sticker tires, but the rest of the session was fairly consistent 1:22s as the car got lighter. Granted my session was in near perfect conditions and yours was in fog, which meant less grip / colder ambients overall so bear that in mind. (although we both seem to be doing 1:22s so I dunno)

And because I have plenty of time to kill :P Note that I run a standard setup on this car for these videos, so I have excessive aero on and the rads are pretty open - will probably be revisiting this after I do every track to see how far I can push it. I take it car probably still has the stock steering ratio? Slowing this down will help you adjust your lines and better manage the tire deg. As would adjusting the tire pressures: Brands requires the FR/RL to have the same pressures, with the FL being higher (+0.1 bar) and the rear being lower (-0.1 bar) or thereabouts.

T1 (Paddock Hill) - Braking halfway between white and black boards from 6th to 4th, carrying ~160kph as you come down the crest and hit the curb; your corner speed dropped to 120 after braking late and shifting to 3rd; turning in to try and hit the apex scrubbed off quite a lot of momentum

T2 (Druids) - Braking at the bridge from 5th to 2nd at ~95kph, keeping a constant radius as you feather the throttle to get to the exit curb (taking this in 3rd is possible if you can keep speed up and when you're light on fuel); you had a good entry here but the line could be smoother - the most of your wear probably came from T1+T2

T3 (Graham Hill Bend) - Spot on for both, down to 3rd at 120+ kph although you risk a lot of speed by jumping the curb that much

T4 (Surtees) -  Down from 5th to 3rd at the last board at ~125 kph, aiming to swing wide and tightens so you don't hit the patch of sand on exit as you power out for the straight; some speed could be found coming from T3 but the exit was good

T5 (Hawthorns Bend) - Braking right at the last board, down from 6th to 5th at 180+ kph keeping it right at the edge of track limits - braking a cars length earlier is permitted if you are in the draft. 4th felt a bit too short for me here and I feel keeping 5th down this straight is faster.

T6 (Westfield Bend) - Again downshifting once to 4th at 150kph, you want to get as far right as possible without jumping the curb or you'll go straight into the sand; 3rd is a tad slower here, similar to T5, and introduces a bit of push

T7 (Sheene Curve) - T7 is a repeat of T6 (down to 4th at 140kph) only the braking point is earlier to avoid flying off the crest, and it is recommended that you jump the tires over  the right hand curb to get a better line (though not with the underbelly or else the flat surface will send you flying off). 3rd appears to be a hair faster, but its one of those optional shift corners.

T8 (Stirlings bend) - 3rd gear left at 130+ is ideal and executed well

T9 (Clearways-Clark Curve) - 4th at 150+ to finish, not much to say here other than this is a prime overtaking opportunity. Provided you setup well going into T8, you'll have to be mindful of the draft here. 3rd will probably push wide if the fronts are  worn but 4th is sluggish, better suited for defending a line.

A good exit out of T9 will see you reacing 235-240kph as you enter T1 for braking.

A good exit out of T9 will see you reacing 235-240kph as you enter T1 for braking.

That's quite the analysis. :)

It should be noted that those two laps from my video there are not my best. They were a little on the sloppy side, main reason being; I was pushing a little harder to try and defend my lead. ;)

T1 - I definitely need to work on this one. I need to brake earlier and stay left, then trail brake as I turn in, just like you did it. Definitely faster.

T2 - In the video my car got a little loose on exit, hence why I didn't allow it to run out to the curb on exit (more so on the last lap).

T3 - Lol, I normally don't jump the curb that much there (again, was pushing to defend lead). In fact I usually just try to kiss it with the tires and not ride that curb at all. I find it really upsets the car, makes it hard to put down the power and plays havoc with rattling my G27. :P

T4 - Exit speed is key here as the long straight follows, so I usually try to get as clean of an exit here and get on the gas as early as possible, while not going off on that sand you mentioned.

T5 - When I tried 5th I found I either carried too much speed and pushed wide off the track or didn't have as much power on exit as I'd prefer. Cars with small, high-revving NA engines like this that are sequential shifted, I don't mind an extra tap of the paddle here and there if it means getting a little more power. In a full manual car, an extra shift can be too much extra hassle/time wasted.

T6 - This is a corner I find tricky to turn in at just the right moment. Get it right and you sail right through. A little early and you upset the car by jumping the inside curb. A little too late and you run off onto the rough curb on exit and again, upset the car. 4th gear here I feel puts the car a little out of the power band, but if you get it right, can be spot on, like you demonstrated. Most of the time I go to 3rd here because I tend to turn in just slightly early or late and need the extra power from the speed I scrubbed off. lol.

T7 - I always brake early here, even if it feels too early. Because it's blind, a lot of people tend to brake too late here and run off. I like 3rd gear here as it keeps me from going too fast over the crest and helps me plant my tires over the curb at the apex.

T8 - This is a textbook racing corner. Simple "outside-inside-outside" technique gets the job done. ;)

T9 - Again, I found 4th gear caused me to push wide here (I only pushed wide in the video on the 2nd last lap because I was going 105% :P). 3rd keeps my speed in check and I can usually go back to full throttle right after the turn-in, before the apex. Did a lot of passing on the start/finish straight in this race, a lot of the time it was due to higher exit speed.

So yeah, not my typical best laps of this track in this car (my quickest throughout the race was 1:21 and I did a 1:20 in qualifying), but it's interesting how we both have slightly different techniques and driving styles, yet turn out pretty much the same lap times. I take the "slow in, fast out" approach in most cases, sometimes maybe a little too much, lol, but that's generally my style. You seem to be a little smoother and carry a little more entry speed by contrast. ;)
