It's an Odin Works Atlas 6. They've got 4 versions of it, 5.56, 6.5 Grendel/Creedmore, .308/7.62, and 9mm.

Not really shocking, Military rejected it so there isn't a standardized template that OEMs need to use.

 

Though, muzzle brakes are fairly easy to find for .308 rifles. Primary Arms, MidwayUSA, and Cheaper Than Dirt have a good selection.

Just haven't found one that I though looked good (yeah I know, looks don't matter on a gun but meh. I want mine to look evil)

To get Magpul MOE handguard to fit since all the handguards for AR-10's look retarded and are way longer than need be.

Eh, Magpul's handgaurds don't look all that good to me.

If they're lighter and I can put a foregrip on em, that's good enough for me. The ones my DPMS came with are just garbage.

 

Also need to get a butt stock but that's going to be hard since this one uses a commercial buffer tube and Mapgul apparently stopped making commercial tube stuff.

 

Not sure how hard it is to switch out a buffer tube. Also need to put a better recoil spring in mine because it makes that "SPROING" noise on occasion. Thinking of going with flat wire spring instead of the usual round wire springs.

Magpul still makes and sells commercial spec. Everything they make has a commercial counterpart, if it mounts to a standardized M4 buffer.

 

Swapping out buffer tubes is easy, just don't lose the rear takedown detent spring+pin and make sure the buffer detent is held down but not covered, and the rest is a cake walk.

 

I also don't go for lightweight, and I don't like polymer handguards at all.

Neither do I normally. But this rifle is already heavy enough. I don't need or want a quad rail. I'm just going for something that has more heat dissipation than stock, and I can mount a fore grip to.

Odin Works makes some really light Keymod and Magpul MLok rails. I've got a 12.5in version of their heaviest version, and it's not really heavier than most poly grips I've played with. They also have a lighter model called the O2 Lite, and they're coming out with an even lighter Ragnarok model should be coming out soon.

Problem is that those are all longer than the 6 1/2 inch handguard on mine. Wouldn't mind doing the free-float thing but I'm not looking to spend that kind of money just to be able to install a fore grip.

 

Same issue with my Windham Weaponry SRC AR-15.

Yeah, they be expensive.

It's gonna be a hard pill to swallow when I remake my first upper, but with a 20" barrel, rifle length system, and 7.5" handgaurd.

Wouldn't mind a longer handguard if I didn't have to remove the gas block. But I'm not chancing doing that by myself. I'd sooner pay someone to do it and well.... that's just more than I need or want to shell out.

What gas block is it? A2 front post?

It's a "low profile" railed gas block. I don't know if it would fit or not. It does sit lower than the rail on the receiver itself, which from what I can tell is also low profile (apparently some DPMS Oracle's have a higher rail)

Ah, if it's clamp on or it has screws in the bottom, it's easy to change. The worst that can happen, assuming you get a good block, is that you misalign the gas ports and turn your rifle into a fancy pants bolt action.

 

Which is something else I want to do with a side charging upper.
