Windows 10 will have app ads.

-> On the Start menu, only 1 app, will, be shown. This can be disable in Settings.

-> Lock screen if you have Spotlight images enabled (ON by default). Where you have an lock screen image that changes every now and then. You can remove the ads which will appear on occasion, by not using the feature. Basically the money goes into profit from the ads, but also paying the photographer licensing fees for the images.

These have been covered at BUILD event.

All this is (Solitaire) is in an game purchase. This is better than "oh! you can't move anymore, your cards are generating... wait 12h for next move... ooooorrr, pay 5$ for the super generator pack, and do 10 moves!"

The classic, ad-free Win32 solitaire will be patched to run on 10, just like it was done with 8.1,

It starts innocently enough with Solitaire, soon enough it will be "pay to deactivate updates" (well actually you do have to pay extra for the professional edition already to deactivate updates) or "Pay to have access to the device manager or regedit" or "pay to deactivate sleep mode and hybernate" and so on and so forth.

Microsoft, lets be honest. This is Windows we're talking about. Removing the ads will probably be as simple as changing one or two registry keys. And if that doesn't work there's always online solitaire.

I don't see much of a complaint, they have some little adds (I actually had to actively look for adds, and only thing I found was a Bing add at the bottom of the main menu) to earn a little bit of money. As long as they are not taking up screen space in any annoying way, there really isn't anything to complain about. 

If they start with popup adds or adds that are taking up space on the game board. Then you might complain about it not being an option to pay a small fee (say $1) to just remove the adds, forever. 

As it is now, it doesn't bother anyone, visually. If it bothers you mentally to know that there is an add there and that they want money to remove it, then the issue is you.

Well yes, you are right. It is an add, but far from what you might picture it. 

It takes up no more space than what any other app would on the left side of the menu (were most used and recently added apps are shown). It looks excactly like one of your installed apps, only with the text "Get it on the app store" (or something like that)

It really is non intrusive, and the chance of you actually noticing it isn't that high.

Yeah it's not that bad, I don't really use the start menu anyway just use keyboard shortcuts for pretty much everything.

Sorry but if I pay for a product then I expect it not to shove ads down my throat. Main reason why I don't have cable or Hulu.

For me, I've had enough. I won't be upgrading to Windows 10 and I won't recommend it either. I was on the fence several weeks ago and since then Microsoft has just been trying to push me onto the Windows 7 side and they finally succeeded.

I won't go to GNU/Linux. I will just stay on Windows 7 until Microsoft fixes all these idiotic changes.

 

The only thing I want is for Microsoft to release an OS that is better or the same as Windows 7 in every single way, with 0 drawbacks. I don't think that's an unreasonable thing to ask for. To not make your product worse.
