not really it just makes you think it will be something amazing and then when it comes and it doesn't perform as well as you hoped even if they didn't do much hyping they are still attacked by those people saying they hyped it up too high when really it was the consumers who did so

I think it will do a bit worst than Haswell-E and by the time it's out it will be behind the times vs intel. My guess is that AMD might price it aggressively but not out of the gate.

I truly think they have no future in the CPU business, which is why they should just let that division that and slowly move all assets to the GPU division or let someone pick up just that part of the company (They can't sell the CPU side because of cross patent deals with Intel)

seeing that haswell is still great and ivy is still great but a bit worse then haswell then amd would do well if it does perform a bit worse then haswell

Here's the problem. Even if AMD uses all their best engineers too ensure that the CPU's are great. Even if they have a gigantic IPC count, with cheap prices.

If that happens, Intel will just jump up. Intel seems too just be better. Releasing more and improving more in less time than AMD. AMD's only use is competition for Intel, I'm afraid.

Don't get me wrong. I HOPE from the bottom of my heart that Zen outperforms Intel massively, and that Intel starts too struggle. Intel prices their stuff highly unfair in my opinion. They need the competition. Same goes for Nvidia.

Basic guide to CPU's!

If I said I were 14, you would call me a kid. If I say 70, you’ll entitle me too old. If I say 20 you say I’m inexperienced and if I say 40 than I'm too boring.

That's ignoring he fact that by that time Skylake E will be out and Cannonlake also in short order. So in paper, for end users it means you could get a Haswell-E level cheap for half the cost, sounds good.

Except AMD is currently buried underneath a mountain of debt and such processor will basically solve fucking nothing at all: it won't sell dramatically well fast enough to make up for their financial issues and it won't have staying power to compete with something like Cannonlake-E coming after it a few months after it.

It will basically be slightly better than their current offering but their cycle of new tech every 3 or 4 years it's just not sustainable at all.

what i'd totally love is for Zen to have something similar to 4930k/3930K/5820k performance? probably even better.

Costing around 220-250$ for the 8 core it'd be nice to have 2500K/2700K - 3570K/3770K gaming performance But absolutely demolish in multitasking performance (maybe slotting between even a 5820k and 5960X or equalling a 5960X with a really good overclock).

I would not mind needing the mandatory 212 Evo with push pull and a pretty good motherboard to power it, i just want this to be the best all round workstation CPU :D (the 8 core i mean)

Though What i dream of, is a 12C/24T Chip, Sandy/Ivy Bridge Single Core performance, Around 350-425$ needing a Top of the line board, But again absolutely thrashing everything when it comes to multitasking/content creation stuff :D.

also :V why not name it Phenom lll ?

I speculate that they will be a big letdown.

If that's true its over for AMD

  • 3 weeks later...

So, how well do you think Zen will do? I am really hoping it succeeds massively as #1 it will shake up the industry (more competition) and I'm thinking of investing in it. If Zen can throw Intel's manhandle on the industry I think the stock could soar. Good idea? Bad idea?

They have to make huge improvements to per-core performance to compete with Intel.

By the time Zen is out it will probably be competing against Kaby-lake and Skylake-E :/  It'll probably be within 5% of Haswell, but with a lot of features, but unless it has -really- aggressive pricing - it may not be as huge of a hit.  Too much is going against them right now, but I do hope for a hit.

If you're talking about investing in stock while then it's really up to you, I personally think stocks will rise quite a bit. I'm thinking about investing.

Even if it's not as fast as intel in IPC it'll still be fine considering, it's a second choice and it won't make a huge difference anyways, unless it's a newer instruction set.

The point of this thread was to ask what your guys views on this processor is. Will you buy this processor if it is equal to Intel's performance? If it is higher? You are the tech community. If you are hyped about an upcoming product it will get more earnings.

Yeah, I've only invested once and it was a very small portion compared to the commission fee. I put $160 in LUV (southwest airlines) when it was at $20 a share. Now its $40 a share. I think a small investment in AMD has huge potential. Even if it does get bought that typically means a lot of money for investors.

Zen?

not well at all.

again, I've said this before, they'll need more then a 150% IPS improvement over their current chips to compete competitively with intel

IPS?
