Microsoft Joins The Fight in Stopping Revenge Porn

Suika

I'll be honest in saying that I didn't know revenge porn was that huge of an issue.

Recently Google had come along in helping to end revenge porn, and fortunately Microsoft has also decided to join that party. Microsoft has come up with a reporting system that allows victims to report links and images relatively easily, having the content removed from any of the possible services including Bing, OneDrive, and Xbox Live. Currently it's limited to English but there are plans to expand to other languages in the coming weeks.

Microsoft is taking broad steps to eliminate revenge porn from its most popular services. Today the company published a blog post outlining its plans to "help put victims back in control of their images and their privacy." Moving forward, Microsoft says it will remove links to offending photos and videos from Bing search results whenever a victim notifies the company that they were posted without permission.

Of course we'll require more help than just Microsoft to eliminate this problem, but with other giants like Google and Reddit on board as well, it won't be too long before revenge porn becomes too difficult to intentionally seek out, and hopefully the lack of effectiveness will deter people from posting it.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

It better get reviewed by humans and not a computer, otherwise that will be abused to hell and back again.

"Normandy" i7 4790K - GTX 970 - Phantom 410 (Gun metal) - Z97 Extreme4 (asrock) - 128GB Crucial SSD - 1TB WD HDD - H60 Refurb. - 7 case fans | G710+ Keyboard, G230 Headset, Acer GN246HL Monitor.

Quick thoughts on system: I7 is extremely quick and I'm glad I spent the extra for hyper-threading. I regret my decision to get the GTX 970, it has horrible coil whine. There isn't any excuse for this terrible whine I and others are having. I HIGHLY recommend a 144hz monitor. Future Improvements/upgrades: Rubber fan mounts, basic speakers, more ram (for a total of 16gb), replace GPU.

144hz is love. 144hz is life. I like to submit unfinished posts then do about 20 edits. I like the Night Theme too.

The more they do the better, one day hosting companies will be held libel for not effectively removing offensive material from their services.

I never really got the appeal of revenge porn. Can it just be pretend revenge porn? Maybe nobody had the heart to tell you but those aren't really teachers, pizza delivery guys, regular girls just catching a taxi, real party club girls or real "co-eds" and collegue kids you know, they're all paid pornstars so let's just go back to "pretend" that famous pornstar just happened to be stranded and needed a ride and never done this before but she's totally up to sucking your dick to pay for the ride.

No harm in pretending.

So like, reading that title, I kinda assumed at first that 'Revenge Porn' was someone making a porn video starring themselves as revenge and wondered, 'Why the hell does Microsoft care about that?'...

Difference is in all that those guys chose to be in porn, they chose to be published and are being paid for it.  Revenge porn (Photoshopped or not) is not with the consent of the target and is damaging to the targets ability to work and function in society.  The is a lot of harm in it and it isn't pretending

Real talk here, I don't think nudes/sex tapes honestly have any effect on employability.  The only time I could see it causing an issue is if you're a middle school/high school teacher and the administration doesn't want to deal with jackass kids finding out about it.  And that's only if your employer finds out, which is unlikely.

I doubt there's even any documented cases of someone losing a job because they were found deepthroating on pornhub by their boss.  It's all just conjecture.

But I dunno, we live in a world where women will go outside in bikinis but then freakout if you walk in on them in their underwear.  People are silly about nudity/sexuality for no rational reason.

Am I the only one who thinks this is not Microsoft or Googles task to do?

Don't get me wrong, it's great that they offer the service and that they implement it, but it shouldn't have to be necessary. It simply shouldn't. The internet has but one simple rule (excluding the 'if you can imagine it, there is porn of it' rule) : If you don't want certain things on internet, then don't film it or take pictures of it. Like seriously, if you don't want to be a victim of revenge porn or leaking nudes or what ever, the solution is simple: DON'T FLIPPING RECORD YOURSELF / YOUR PARTNER NUDE! How hard can that be?

Now I know there are of course people who sneakily shoot video's / picture's of other people whilest they're naked, but that is a little different. That's a different category (which also needs to be combatted by the way).

But besides those edge cases... The solution is simple folks: STOP SHOOTING NUDE VIDEO'S OF YOURSELF!

Here's how you should imagine the above line being said:

It goes well beyond the prospects of getting or loosing a job, both of which would be hard to document anyway,  but imagine if you work in an office space and your ex posts a sex tape that all your co workers see.  That is a huge encumbrance to bear socially and you only need one or two dodgy work colleagues to make life unbearable.

Some people do not have the emotional resources to deal with that.

My college councellor was in a porno. The school knew and did not care.

The same could not be said for my classmates though..

Good, I stumbled into revenge porn of my best friend, while they were not incredibly exposed pictures it killed me seeing them knowing damn well her asshole of an ex did it, thankfully I did manage to get the major site they were on to remove it, I need to get in touch with googls too to see if they will remove her pics from search results.

Just a thought but,

Is it not possible that like child pornography, or terrorism, that this whole revenge porn thing will be used to get through some sopa/pipa type legislation?

Not supporting revenge porn, not at all, like I said, just a thought.

A teacher recently got fired after her students found her old porn videos she starred in, so yes, it can have an effect.

Step 1 - don't make a porno.

the end

I wouldn't say it's necessarily that easy if your partner hides the camera.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

That should fall under work place harassment and there are systems in place at any company to deal with it.  It's not a special case.

I think you are greatly underestimating the effect this sort thing has on people.
