Do you know if this is a driver issue?

All we have is the developers word on this and they are extremely biased because:

1- They are working with nvidia.

2- There are nvidia banners all over the game.

Of course its easy to blame AMD drivers like ubisoft did with unity.

What proof do you have its a driver issue besides the less than credible account of these shady as hell devs?

Zero.

Having better driver optimization helps run the game better and on less powerful hardware. I owned one AMD card  and it ran horrible and kept crashing from driver error so I sold it and got a GTX760 and never had a problem. From my experience and others, the drivers aren't the best they could be.

Having better driver optimization helps run the game better and on less powerful hardware. I owned one AMD card  and it ran horrible and kept crashing from driver error so I sold it and got a GTX760 and never had a problem. From my experience and others, the drivers aren't the best they could be.

This post seems to be fueled by bias years old. Drives have been solid on both sides of the fence now for years (even betas, though they are a little shakier). The whole amd drivers being stable is the only thing older than the amd cards running hot misinformation. 

Tell that to my Linux machine. I swear the only GPU maker who cares about Linux drivers is Intel.

Again, everyone gets mad about this but honestly i couldn't give less of a f*ck. Linux for gaming is a moneyhole, and I Honestly don't believe it'll ever be truly viable.

Having better driver optimization helps run the game better and on less powerful hardware. I owned one AMD card  and it ran horrible and kept crashing from driver error so I sold it and got a GTX760 and never had a problem. From my experience and others, the drivers aren't the best they could be.

The only cards i've ever had driver issues with were my 550 and my 9600m. Also the only card i've had straight up die on me was my 550. My 6870x2 setup, 7950 setup, 7970x2 setup and my 270 setup are all fine and i've only had issues once with my current setup (7970x2) with the initial launch of the mantel drives, which i remind you, were beta.

 

So the only drivers i've ever had issues with were nvidia. Does that mean nvidia drivers are shit? no. 

EDIT: and if i tried to make a sweeping statement on the quality of current Nvidia Drivers because of my bad experience with the 550/9600m i'd be silly.

EDIT 2: Also i lied, my 6870x2 setup definitely has some issues in the early days [redscreen then forced to restart computer x.x] but it runs just fine these days and they are still used daily (They live in my little brothers system now)

AF is for texture quality at certain camera angles and distances. You always want to turn that up.

All we have is the developers word on this and they are extremely biased because:

1- They are working with nvidia.

2- There are nvidia banners all over the game.

Of course its easy to blame AMD drivers like ubisoft did with unity.

Lets be honest this is the biggest gap in gpus from different vendors I have ever seen.

Maybe they were running physx on AMD GPUS which would explain it and physx would run on the cpu and murder the framerate.

I doubt this is purely a driver issue because gta V AMD drivers are meh in this case and the game still runs pretty well on both vendors.

Rockstar pulled no stops in the pc version and worked with both nvidia and AMD to bring the pc version.

Not sure if it was the case with project cars .

My argument is that its probably not as simplistic as "hurr durr  amd drivers suck " and most people are taking this as a cheap jab at amd drivers and 

we still dont know all the details of the situation.

For some games like gta V the driver suport is sub par  but : 

1- From my experience thats the exception and not the norm.

2- We dont know if it boils down to AMD drivers suck period , could be a multitude of other things.

People are boiling this whole thing to AMD is shit , their drivers are shit dont buy their cards and you can see comments like this everywhere in the thread.

I think you mix up Anti Aliasing (AA) and Anisotropic Filtering (AF).

 

AF gives is a huge gain in graphic quality with a neglectable performance hit. If you are not on a low end GPU you always should use a max AF value.

I'm running r9 290 with 5820k and have NO PERFORMANCE ISSUES @1440p --> Graphics options [All - Max // Motion Blur - OFF // DoF - OFF // MSAA - OFF] // Advanced Graphics Options [Extended distance - Max // High streaming while flying - ON // Everything else - OFF]

Runs buttersmooth 55~75 in Single Player, 45~65 Online

Did not do any day1 driver updates (Running OMEGA driver), only last week installed latest beta driver as I was curios what it does - saw no difference whatsoever.

 

The only issues I am having with GTA V are Client/Server desyncronization during Online (Random cars popping in and out, player animations glitching freezing)

No, But I do take what a company says about it's competition or internal performance benchmarks with a grain of salt.  That goes for both sides.

You can't call people liars just because they've never had issues with a particular brands drivers before.  I haven't had issues with either AMD or Nvidia drivers personally.  Does that make me a liar?  It may not prove anything because it's only anecdotal evidence, but it's not untrue.

 

I on the other hand have had horrible driver issues with both AMD and Nvidia. :P

I'd wager 5% of this forum was actually old enough and enough of a gear head to actually know how big a deal 3dfx and co were back in the day.

But that's none of my business.

Intels GPUs are just getting started, they've done wonders with Iris Pro so far

Lets be honest this is the biggest gap in gpus from different vendors I have ever seen.

Maybe they were running physx on AMD GPUS which would explain it and physx would run on the cpu and murder the framerate.

I doubt this is purely a driver issue because gta V AMD drivers are meh in this case and the game still runs pretty well on both vendors.

Rockstar pulled no stops in the pc version and worked with both nvidia and AMD to bring the pc version.

Not sure if it was the case with project cars .

My argument is that its probably not as simplistic as "hurr durr  amd drivers suck " and most people are taking this as a cheap jab at amd drivers and 

we still dont know all the details of the situation.

For some games like gta V the driver suport is sub par  but : 

1- From my experience thats the exception and not the norm.

2- We dont know if it boils down to AMD drivers suck period , could be a multitude of other things.

People are boiling this whole thing to AMD is shit , their drivers are shit dont buy their cards and you can see comments like this everywhere in the thread.

How are the drivers "meh" and "sub par" when you say you have no performance issues in the game? Please explain. You're also running the game at 900p which explains the performance that you're getting.

 

Every game developer will work with both vendors on some level if need be. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Even Gaming Evolved and Gameworks titles will have AMD and Nvidia optimizations. If it's not right out of the gate, then it'll come. Some games, like Ass Creed for example, was rushed out the door and since it was a gameworks title, AMD had a ton of video issues - which by the way weren't just exclusive to AMD.

 

I don't think the general consensus here is that "AMD drivers suck" or "AMD is shit". I don't think anyone is saying to not buy their cards because of one game - if they are then they're wrong about it.

 

But you're right, we don't know all of the details of the situation, which is why I will continually argue with you, bogus and whomever else about performance issues like this. You have no idea what the issue is, so to immediately draw a conclusion that "Gameworks is to blame for Radeon cards underperforming!!!1" like you usually do is contrary to what you're saying here.

Just you wait; if and when Intel has some high end gaming GPU out, people will start blaming Intel for Radeon optimization issues.

 

 

AMD has confirmed it themselves that the black box API used in gameworks games makes it a pain for them to optimize things.
A lot of people deny thats the case , then again a lot of people argue that the holocaust never happened and deny that too , a lot of people
claim that the earth is flat and that doesnt make it so.
AMD chief engineers surely have more credit to this than a random nvidia fan on the internet chiming in with his limited knowledge of things .
This is NOT a limited occurrence and nvidia cards DO perform much better than AMD ones that much we know at least and I have proved.

Really? Random Nvidia fan? Holocaust? You know why it's insane to not believe the holocaust happened? Because we have friggen evidence that it happened. There's absolutely no evidence to support the claim that Gamework hinders AMD optimizations. All you have is some guy at AMD who is making that claim. What I don't understand is if Radeon cards can't even use Nvidia EXCLUSIVE effects, why is it hard to optimize for the game? Do you think he could be talking about getting Gameworks to work on Radeon cards? Clearly there's graphics options to turn settings off, so I don't know what the issue is.

LOL same. I repair computers and I have encounter an equal amount of driver issues from both camps. In fact, I bricked both GTX 980 and R9 290 on the same day in less than an hour.

Wasn't there a thing a while back about how almost all games are broken and it requires AMD and Nvidia to fix the problem with driver updates? Don't know if that point has beern debunked, but it seems it might apply here,

Linus talked about it in one of the more recent WAN shows. If devs coded their games properly then there wouldn't be issues with the GPU. All the game specific driver updates do is tell the graphics card how to work around specific issues within a game.

so basically devs are too lazy to fix their games properly and so driver vendors are supposed to fix it...this didnt used to be the case when people didnt have the internet as easily...
