Experiences with non-techies

At least I am on a school now where my teachers have worked with the newest tech since the 1980's, so they know how everything works

So many things I could write here... things like this.

get over it I am 12 and do not have prior knowledge yet a whole lot of common sense

Just use periods in the right place, correct grammar, etc. and you should be fine.

My life is consumed by CS:GO, even though I'm not exceptionally good at it.

Is it supposed to be 8 GB of ram? pretty sure the max for ANY computer is 4 GPUs (which is so not worth it)

If you're running a discrete card, does the cable HAVE to be plugged into the card? Can the cable be plugged into the mobo outputs while you have a discrete card?

No that is the point he seems to think you can have 1TB of RAM and 8 graphics cards!!

Yes then No.

Well you can still use (depending on BIOS) the I/O of the MoBo but you will use the MoBos graphics NOT the discrete cards.

The discrete GPU will just be a paperweight in this condition.

I have to explain the difference between megabit and megabyte to my family all the time.

You can have up to 6 in Windows, but not in SLI/Crossfire. I think possibly in Linux you might be able to configure things so it can have up to 8/10 GPUs on one mobo, but I can't remember how (I read it a while back) :S

Yes, it has to be plugged into the card

Not to burst your bubble(s), but the speedtest show-off thread exists for this. This stuff doesn't quite belong in here.

Just a friendly reminder.

Never trust my advice. Only take any and all advice from me with a grain of salt. Just a heads up.

It's just that whenever someone posts a random speedtest result for any reason, more start to follow, and need to remind them that "Hey, this is a thread for talking about non tech-savvy people, not comparing how slow your internet speeds are".

Never trust my advice. Only take any and all advice from me with a grain of salt. Just a heads up.

I'm at medium tier. Not too slow, not too fast.

They just upgraded to 100 mbit in my area though so I'm kinda wanting an upgrade.

I swear this is true. A fairly recent advert from PC World (a famous shitty UK reseller) advertised a laptop that had a 1TB Memory, it didn't mention ram at all, just something like

"This ultrafast Hewlett Packard comes with an Intel Core I3 processer and a 1 terabyte memory"

I was like "Nice way to confuse your customers, jackasses", they even deliberately added the " a" to confuse noob buyers even more.

I'm in the uk at the moment and saw this ad. I would of posted it up here, but I haven't checked this thread in a while and apparently you got to it first.

get over it I am 12 and do not have prior knowledge yet a whole lot of common sense

I am 13, and I at least try to use proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation on the Internet, unless I am extremely tired. I find that incorrect usage of those things on the Internet, where the only thing representing you is a pattern of pixels on someone's monitor, can make you seem like a complete tool.

Need I share my .01megabits per second down and my 3207 ms ping AGAIN? Come on guys. I haven't seen anything worse than that yet.

My mom always makes me install apps and updates on her iPhone 5C; she absoulutly refuses to do it herself. She always asks me if a case is compatible with it, even if it clearly says "iPhone 6+" on it, or something similar.

I am considering spending 2,000 on a PC and getting a pentium k, if that's non-techie. I spent a little too much time in case moding, watercooling, and build logs during toilet time ;p.

Look at my shiny. The logo lights up

People here know I've had speeds of .05Mb/s down and .2Mb/s up with pings in the 1000+ range for no reason.

And I still have nothing relevant to this thread to post about non-techies... :( Well at least for today.

Oh, here's a good one.

I was browsing this forum and I found a topic on someone asking how to disable GPU Boost 2.0, because power usage and whatnot. I kid not, GPU Boost 2.0 is making the lights in my room flicker as I write this post. But that's not the point. Someone replied that in order to disable GPU Boost 2.0, you move the GPU out of the GPU Boost 2.0 slot. Lol what?

Yesterday i was talking to this girl, and she asked me what my hobbies are. So i told her computers and tech. so she asked me all sorts of not-techie questions, the best of which is "can you get rid of viruses?" Although she is an obvious non-techie, she wasn't obnoxious or anything, just didn't know. anyway, I now have a new person to look after when it comes to computers. ;)
