Any solutions for a PC in a smoking environment?

Jedicake

I'm assuming filters for intake don't help at all... Do air purifiers work?

The best solution would be to move your PC away from cigarette smoke if possible.

There's no way to keep smoke out of a computer. If for some reason you or someone in your home is unable to stop smoking, your best option is to stick your computer in a separate room or closet with its own supply of fresh air. Its like asking how to waterproof a sponge while still being absorbent, it doesn't work.

I should probably clarify and say that I don't smoke. I was planning on building a budget PC for my sister, and she smokes in her room. I'll look into these carbon filters

Gotta love when people ask for advice, and non smokers have to butt in with their opinions about something they know literally nothing about dealing with.

It's not the same for everyone to just give up. I know its cons, and I'm trying, I've moved to a vape, but I still have the craving for a cig every time I eat or use the restroom, or wake up.

@Jedicake I smoked with any pc build that I had , never had problems, if you notice some yellow brown stuff in it or on the boards you can use a PCB cleaning solvent ex: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhIJFoHH6Eg

if the fans stop moving I just open them and spray the moving parts under the sticker not the electronic parts with electronics lubrication\olive oil and they spin again

about the smell u can put a car perfume in it or what ever

Yeah, vaping has certainly helped me stop my pack-a-day (about, I rolled my own) habit, and my nicotine levels are much lower after about a year of vaping, but I still crave a nice home-rolled cigarette every time I see one or every time I get tipsy. When I wake up is the absolute worst though..

I also don't know the situation which is why I said "if possible" at the end of my post. While you may not have been referring to me specifically, your post was very general and could've very well included me.

Nicotine patches.  I used the heaviest ones for 45 days to kick the habit, then stopped using the patches to kick the addiction.  2 months after smoking my last cigarette, I didn't have a craving for it anymore.

The thing with nicotine and the habit of smoking is that you need to quit it completely to get rid of the craving.  Smoking less or vaping only makes your body want more nicotine.

It's only after you completely stop using nicotine that your body will "forget" about it.

Anyway, on topic : There is nothing you can do to filter it out.  Any filter will get clogged real fast and will then restrict airflow.  No filter will gunk up the cooling fins real fast too.  Both will affect cooling and be a mess to clean out.

oh so be a good brother like me :P and take charge of the cleaning every year or so do the pcb cleaning with a spray and a brush like -

if not u need a silent case with custom active carbon filters on the intakes this can be done + you would have to change them very frequent ! and put a car smell thingy inside and you good to go !  Edited by Benielishackove

Air purifiers do help - my friend's mum smokes so they have air filters and there isn't much tar in the fans etc.

Well I guess that pc is experiencing "second smoke". Its bad for it as it is for you. Move it away

I love the irony that smokers are more worried about the cooling capabilities of their system being affected, than the money smoking costs. Or, even, the possible health benefits.

Wow. This is interesting......

I think you might have an easier time finding an activated charcoal filter as the filter in the mammoth is likely a standard size
