Tired of recharging your iPhone several times a day? That's just because the iPhone's thin and light design is encouraging you to use it more, according to Apple's design guru Jony Ive. In an interview with the Financial Times today, Ive dove deep into the design process of the Apple Watch, but when asked about the need to recharge iPhones often he didn't see much of an issue. Instead, he noted that stuffing in a bigger battery would make it heavier and less "compelling." Never mind that battery life remains the single biggest concern for most smartphone users, according to a survey by Cat. If this interview had occurred a year ago, Ive would seem even less sympathetic. Now, at least, Apple has the iPhone 6 Plus available, which offers a significantly bigger battery thanks to its larger 5.5-inch frame.

I fail to see how a battery life number that Apple never released or solidified in the first place is something that "rips them off completely." They're not really comparable.

Just a joke lol, but it's like comparing the performance of a prebuilt to the functionality and usability of a phone.  Also Apple overprices everything so kind of comparable to an overpriced prebuilt

But apple follow the complete opposite of that trend

 

Ive's designs are understated, and industrial, not shiny and bright

 

and apple devices are usually at the forfront of performance and good in heat respects

Yeah....actually being able to use a product for a decent length of time is a hell of a lot more compelling than how slim and light it is. This little thing called "convenience", I.E. not having to charge it every 2 hours.

 

Why? Because knowing that I had to charge it every 2 hours, I'd have bought something else that actually works, and isn't just an overpriced Epeen

Have any of them thought that you can only go so thin before it becomes uncomfortable? Personally they are a bigger problem to hold right and firmly if the phone is too thin and too lightweight. I've always been more fond of slightly chunkier and slightly heavier phones.

The fact is that people want better battery life in their phones, but Apple isn't in the business of giving people what the people want, rather giving people what Apple feels they want.

My battery life is pretty good. Can get a whole days use out of it on one charge and even then i'm left with about 50/60% battery left.

If they cared about performance they wouldn't pair a 4790k with an r7 250 and 16 GB of ram lol. It's because prebuilts cater to people who see i7 and 16GB and think that it must be the best pc of all time.

Downside to the market trend: people want a bigger, higher resolution, screen and lighter, thinner phone (at least, the ones who prioritize form over function), but batteries can't keep up with that. Only a select few phones actually have a decent enough battery to last a lot longer (the phone I bought recently lasts 3 days normally, or well over a week if I activate stamina mode, and that includes 5-8 hours of screen on time). 

 

A good phone balances everything instead of driving things to extremes. Phone needs to be reasonably sized, have a good battery (enough to actually last 7 days on standby, most phones that say it has a long standby time only really lasts a day and a half on standby), and decently powerful enough for some functions. Starting with a smaller phone goes a long way: the screen is always the biggest battery drain.

Try telling that to an agile software team. Everyone is at design and engineering meetings. Everyone is talking to one another at all times because it is all inter-related.

Internet browsing and GPS are the most battery draining. The screen comes right after those two.
