microsoft issuing copyright takedowns to a lot of youtubes videos about windows #Microstopped

AlexGoesHigh

UPDATE

Microsoft wanted to target videos that was showing how to crack Windows, or providing keys or keygens of Windows in the comment section of videos.

Sadly, the YouTube take down system, targeted legit content. Microsoft is working in correcting this.

“While we are still investigating the recent YouTube takedown notices, it appears some of these videos were inadvertently targeted for removal because there were stolen product keys embedded in the comments section of the videos. Our intention was not to target legitimate YouTube content and we are sorry for the impact this has had. We have already taken steps to reinstate legitimate video content and are working towards a better solution to targeting stolen IP while respecting legitimate content.” - Microsoft spokesperson

he won't

big youtubers are given so much special treatment, I doubt this will affect any tech youtuber with 100K+ subs.

Chris Pirillo has 346,126 subs and one of his videos got taken down.

AngryJoe also had a video flagged / taken down

but when you look at the percentage of bigger youtubers having these issues v smaller ones, it's not even worth considering

Well least this one is still up from Joe. Still fantastic lol.

Can Microsoft issue a take down of it's horrible Xbox One product videos all over YouTube?

Yeah, they can the same as apple can take down all these bendgate videos 50 cent could take down the review linus made about that star wars headset. If you developed the product you can go all out dictator style and take down every negative video about it.

So let me get this straight, people's comments got the video removed?

I don't want to love on this planet anymore.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

The intention of Microsoft was to only remove the specific comments that contained product keys. But YouTube decided to just go ahead and remove the whole thing... -_-

The update explains it well enough IMO. There will be skeptics, but I just can't see them purposefully attacking positive videos.

This is quite ridiculous. Tis a good thing that I don't have any Windows videos uploaded or any videos for that fact. I'm glad Microsoft is working to fix it though. But heck, that be a shipload of videos targeted. I do agree with @tmcclelland455. I think YouTube were just being too lazy.

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.

I call b.s. He needs income, or probably wanting to leave in any case, and used this event as an excuse. I bet he would have done the annoucement shortly after, if this event didn't occur.

so you're not allowed to show windows screen anymore in videos? For eg. in tutorial and reviews clips.

Read the post. Microsoft wanted to take down videos that talk about pirating Windows and posted product key or cracks in the video or comment. Sadly, the youtube automated process wwnt into action, and started to br stupid, and take down everything related tpo Windows. Microsoft is looking (meaning reaching YouTune to fix their shitty system) to corect the problem.

Microsoft is well aware of the streisand effect and would not risk an uproar in their current target audience by removing two year old content for an irrelevant piece of software. gg youtube auto mod software gg.

It just goes to show you how broken Google's policies are. Shoot first, ask questions never.

now i'm going to play devil's advocate on this one because this doesn't fucking make sense, why microsoft would do this is beyond me, the first video that got down is 2 years old, also its targeting videos of anything related to windows, good or bad, doesn't matter which again it doesn't fucking make sense, to me this sound like someone fucked up badly on PR, because its the only reason is see why this is happening

Sounds like you don't know what "Devil's advocate" means. It means to take the side against popular or morale-appropriate opinion, which is the opposite to what you're doing. Just about anyone would agree that this kind of behaviour is morally reprehensible.

Well....yes. As much as I want to continue to give shit to MS since I think it was intentional and backfired on them, I really can't if they blame it all on Google's stupid fucking system for the sole fact that it is indeed fucking stupid, so for this one Google brought it all on itself and for good reason, regardless of who pulled the trigger initially they can't sidestep the stupidity of their automatic system.
