microsoft issuing copyright takedowns to a lot of youtubes videos about windows #Microstopped

AlexGoesHigh

well this came as a surprise but just a couple of hours ago videos about windows are getting copyright takedowns, regardless of what the video is, and if its positive or negative against microsoft, affected include, Chris Pirillo, SoldierKnowsBest and the first affected being Bruce Naylor of FrugalTech which shortly affect posted this, also its possible the takedowns are being issued by a marketing company hired by microsoft

microstopped-twitter.jpg

ATM microsoft hasn't issued an official statment about the subject, also just like #BendGate and #GamerGate this story is getting its own hashtag #MicroStopped suggested by Chris

UPDATE

Microsoft wanted to target videos that was showing how to crack Windows, or providing keys or keygens of Windows in the comment section of videos.
Sadly, the YouTube take down system, targeted legit content. Microsoft is working in correcting this.

also more info can be found in this thread made by @RH00D http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/233202-microsoft-clarifies-problem-of-youtube-videos-about-windows-being-taken-down/

now i'm going to play devil's advocate on this one because this doesn't fucking make sense, why microsoft would do this is beyond me, the first video that got down is 2 years old, also its targeting videos of anything related to windows, good or bad, doesn't matter which again it doesn't fucking make sense, to me this sound like someone fucked up badly on PR, because its the only reason is see why this is happening

this is one of the greatest thing that has happened to me recently, and it happened on this forum, those involved have my eternal gratitude http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/198850-update-alex-got-his-moto-g2-lets-get-a-moto-g-for-alexgoeshigh-unofficial/ :')

My guess is that someone at Microsoft decided to update their auto-takedown system and this is the result. I don't think it's intentional but that doesn't make the damage any less serious.

Oh crap, what happens if Tek Syndicate gets hit with this?

Logan is gonna be pissed, even if it's an accident lol.

If I'm missing any of his Windows videos, tell me and I'll include it. I've already downloaded all of these just in case he gets flagged.

I don't know if you're talking to me or just in general, but I would hope someone like Logan would have backups somewhere!

Even then, I hate using YouTube for watching videos, so I usually just download them and watch them on MPC-HC/VLC. Plus then they will have to upload it to Vimeo or somewhere else, or even have it up as a torrent, either way I have my own personal copy and I could .zip/.rar them into a bundle and upload it to Mega or Mediafire and then everyone can enjoy them that way too.

Not even at MS, Barnacles had issues with Lego and turns out the dumbass lawfirm they had was to blame and they removed the claim and even apologized to Jerry

Sounds like someone will added to the list of employees that will be layed off... and that person won't get a severance package, and actually be fired.

The reason why I say this, is that it makes 0 business sense for doing this. I am sure someone put "Microsoft" or "Windows" into the list for youTube system to take down, probably thinking of something else, and chaos happened. If it was Microsoft purposefully at action, then only negative videos would be taken down, or games on the XBox One, like other publishers do. So there is no logic behind this, beside a mistake.

In addition, if it was on purpose, then Microsoft would have had a statement, like Nintendo did. Probably now Microsoft is digging left and right on what is happening, and getting in contact with YouTube.

So hopefully, this is corrected. If it's not, and it was in ineeded on purpose, than it would be a dark day for Microsoft, not a good move. They have been doing very well in teh recent year especially month. Basically after Windows 8.1, I would argue. It would be shame to go back not only liek before, but in far much state. That would be suicide.

There have been quite a few Windows-oriented videos on YouTube being taken down via compyright complaints, most of which were completely legitimate videos. This was in error.

microsoft-logo-01.jpg

Here's the deal. Microsoft noticed that users were posting stolen Windows keys in the comment sections of legitimate videos and asked to have the comments removed. Instead, YouTube pulled the entire video, rather than deleting the comment that Microsoft requested.

Microsoft's official comment:

While we are still investigating the recent YouTube takedown notices, it appears some of these videos were inadvertently targeted for removal because there were stolen product keys embedded in the comments section of the videos. Our intention was not to target legitimate YouTube content and we are sorry for the impact this has had.  We have already taken steps to reinstate legitimate video content and are working towards a better solution to targeting stolen IP while respecting legitimate content.

So basically it's YouTube's fault for the error. The cycnical side of me almost believes YouTube did that intentionally just to rub one at Microsoft.
