It just occurred to me that the stuff I got today is both geared to make a loud thing more quiet.

image.thumb.jpeg.ad1429be1713029f3998b149b6fb95f8.jpeg

Despite what it looks like, it's actually a practice mute for my bass trombone. Works great, it massively mutes the volume and obviously has an impact on the sound characteristics without changing the feel of playing the instrument too much. It's also really small and light so it doesn't put the trombone off balance as much as the regular mutes I use during concerts. I hope I can get back into practicing more often thanks to it.

image.thumb.jpeg.c000a7e01b185a93dd3271c9a16c5a0c.jpeg

An attenuator for my guitar amps. Even my puny 15 W PRS amp is fiddly to adjust. Just a movement of a fraction of a millimeter on that master volume dial on the distortion channel makes it go from quiet to deafening on my 4x12 cabinet. Never mind the 100 W Dual Rectifier. So it was time to add a bit of a dummy load between the amp and speakers to give me more headroom on the dials. Works like a charm and is entirely passive. It even seems to use some of the power that comes in from the amp to power its cooling fan, which is nice. And as an added bonus I can use the included XLR out for direct injection into my audio interface, if I ever get tired of miking up my cab.

And the stack keeps growing.

Sony WF-1000XM4: I got these because my old WF-1000XM3's are currently not powering on nor charging so I have to RMA them and I figured why not upgrade to the new gen. I have warranty on the XM3's till November so if they're actually dead then I'm just gonna refund them and not replace them. If they're fixable then cool I'll have a backup pair, they lasted for almost 2 years so yeah. Hopefully the new ones will last longer...

But anyways onto the pictures:

Size S is the perfect fit for me as always:

IMG_20220817_175047_1.thumb.jpg.7242e7fca06b00c1787b15e1134573e7.jpg

Luckily I'm a fan of foam Eartips so I don't mind that they're only shipping 3 pairs but for other people not liking foam Eartips it'll be unfortunate. They shipped both foam and regular plastic Eartips with the XM3's and in way more sizes too so the downsizing here really wasn't necessary IMO. Other than that they're a huge improvement, really like the compactness. Good on them for removing the plastics in the packaging and settling for Recycled Material, tho not the best it is a step in the right direction.

And now got myself a second 2080 Super for roughly the same price!

This is the ASUS triple slot model which I actually got to haggle down to a slightly lower price than I paid for that EVGA XC card because the backplate is a bit scratched.

Plan A is to flip these for a profit online (I don't really need all that power and new cards are coming soon).

Plan B is to keep one of them as an upgrade card and sell the other one, while selling my battered r9 290 to make up for part of the price.

No, I do alot in metric but I have to convert to imperial when communicating and road signs here are imperial so I can't always do one.

All my engineering work is in metric.

The stock ABS keycaps on the Keychron K2 were already beginning to shine, especially the WASD keys, so I ordered a set of PBT Miami keycaps that ought to last a fair bit longer. At first, I'd thought I'm made a mistake in going with the Miami set, perhaps a set of single colored keycaps would have been better. But, looking at the Miami set now, I feel it does look good so I'm happy with my choice, though I do intend to order a few more sets of different colors for my other keyboards as well.

It will be a cold day in hell when I go back to glossy.

Glossy on OLED makes sense.  After all, glossy was traditionally used on all sub-par-brightness screens to eek out better images; so given how OLED tends to be dimmer in many cases--it makes sense.

I really, really hate reflections though.  Not just glare from ambient light.  Everything.  I don't want to see reflections of myself either--because I happen to be using a brighter program/item on one area of my display--and it is dark elsewhere.

I have a window almost directly opposed to my monitors. During daytime the side monitor with it's matte coating takes a huge hit to image quality to the point where it loses most of it's contrast due to raised blacks across the board.

The polarizing glass finish on the other hand actually absorbs the ambient light so black stays black and even the direct mirror-like reflection of the window is dimmed down a lot, to the point where it isn't distracting at all. So even when calibrated to 100 nits (SDR) it's perfectly useable for me during daytime with a window directly behind me. The matte screen s almost unuseable with the same conditions and brightness. That says a lot imo.

I tried to set up my phone camera to capture it like my eyes perceive it, but the phone didn't do it justice so i'll not post any pictures. Everything just looks like a mirror (nothing seems dimmed down) in the reflections. In my case side-by-side the glossy OLED looks better in any light conditions i've been throwing at it.

But all in all the screen finish is very subjective. Luckily for you the Arc uses a matte plastic coating.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

That should be enough for all the entertainment media produced between 1921 and 1946.  What are you going to do about movies made after WWII?  🤔

I can't justify the price tag for this bad boy...even after they raised prices beginning of August here in the US.

I've been purchasing a LOT and I mean a LOT of LEGO STAR WARS sets these past weeks. Mainly those in the $20-50 price range except for some big ticket items from the UCS series.

I'm now amongst a hand full of people who have this piece of Hardware in this Country since it's not being officially sold here (yet, but soon it will hopefully):

Finally after over a year since it was announced my Steamdeck 64GB has arrived today:

This was only possible thanks to @AluminiumTechwho sold me his Unit because after a lot of thought he didn't want it in the end. I was supposed to get my Unit through a second Steam account from one of my other friends but that wasn't necessary luckily as Global shipping is already bad enough.

I just love these "Easter Eggs" on the box and also that Valve is using their Portal IP for branding here:

That's all the "Box art" for the Outside

I did ask him to put some additional packaging inside of it so Bubble wrap FTW.

I was too excited to open it so I didn't take pictures of every step like I normally do lol. But I'm sure you guys have seen enough Steamdeck unboxings at this point, I sure have:

Size Comparison to my Nintendo Switch Lite:

This is actually my second Hardware device I've received this year from Valve:

The Steam Controller is from @AluminiumTechaswell.

Got that new color wave on my Profile now and three new On Screen Keyboards.

Of course since this Unit was intended for the UK only a UK Power adapter is included:

But this is only a 45W Charger anyways and I already have two 65W Chargers so it's all good.

I'm for sure gonna wait until I have the Screen protector and Project Kill Switch from dbrand for it before I take it outside of my room lol. I don't know if I should also skin it tho 🤔

As soon as the 1TB Kioxia M.2 2230 SSD arrives I'm gonna put it in and take pictures of the inside too of course. It should be here tomorrow according to DHL so yay.

And then also part of a LTTStore.com Order arrived today:

Mystery T-Shirt:

IMG_20220823_202459_1.thumb.jpg.4efa37e5074dc5d87e96c076d6ea36e1.jpg

I now have the "Do Not Drop" T-Shirt in Purple and in Green, lovely.

Also Sticker Pack 'cause why not:

Now I'm waiting on the two limited Edition Hoodies with the CPU and HDD Design to arrive.

You can take a look at all of the Tech that I own and have owned over the years in my About Me section and on my Profile.

I'm Swiss and my Mother language is Swiss German of course, I speak the Aargauer dialect. If you want to watch a great video about Swiss German which explains the language and outlines the Basics, then click here.

If I could just play Videogames and consume Cool Content all day long for the rest of my life, then that would be sick.

Everything is over priced here in Aus.. So even when you convert it to USD, it's still probably 25% more than what it retails for there.

I just finished building this too. Which I scored about 30% below current going rate.300231351_476985690618643_5430768196698051056_n.thumb.jpg.fce7eb3e71392f5ea3a4f12d3b217a9e.jpg
