What's something so overrated but not actually that good?

RainbowPee

that ever raging war between pc and console gamers.

There is no war between PC and console. We already won before it even started.

I don't believe you. Why ditch the glorious Intel/Nvidia bandwagon?

this is long

because i was getting sick of nvidias bull**** tricks like phsyx being proprietary and newer cards coming out like 480 which were only 10% faster than 5870 but 25% more expensive and saw how this carried on for years, 7970 £300-gtx680 £400  :o and before anyone says "the 7970 competed with the gtx670" no thats just something brainwashed nvidia fans think, you could get a 7950 to compete with a 670 and sometimes beat it, also amd started doign cool things like the 7870 TLE which was a ull blown 7970 core cropper down to 75% put on a cheap 7870 platform which when overclocked was a monster.

Let me say now If you have a legitimate reason to use nvidia go for it, if the 1 program you use for video work ONLY uses cuda, defo get nvidia, but msot programs also use open cl now,

I have no patience for the brainwashed users who say "well nvidias drivers are better", "nvidia are better quality", "because ive always had nvidia", "because gsync and physx" i've been there, done that trust me my mates nvidia pc is suffering scaling issues and because i cant use the "just scan" on his tv remote because hes lost it...its screwed, amd would be the same as ive had sclaing issues there too but ive always fixed them in CCC within 2 minutes. and have had no other issues with either companys drivers,

nobody has ever cared about physX and by chance i was reading some reviews of some old games yesterday (and crysis 1) and even he game reviers mentioned physx and how noone cares, also the amount of times you hear about people with a 680 with a 460 for dedicated phsyx getting worse performance due to the 460, seems more trouble than its worth.

3d vision ive heard linus say it works better with nvidia...ill believe, nearly bought a 3d display the other day but id take higher res over 3d or any other effects, everyone to thier own.

shield-I didnt spend all this money for a beast gaming rig..so that i can play games on a nintendo ds, also if you want a games console to be truly portable, make it fit in a pocket.

I prefer amd's price to performance overall, ill leave that there, just check linu's old benchs and youll see across the board nvidia usually loses to amd or is at best only slightly ahead within margin of error.

I'm not 100% sure why but i prefer GCN to kepler, i get the feeling that for a given task GCN will be easier for devs to program for and utilise, openCL has come a long way and im really buzzed about it. i get the feeling that much like nvidias maxwell which we know nothing about yet that amd will come out with a whole new GCN architecture (not gcn 1.1 or 2.0) but a whole new configuration of the architecture which will lead to HUGE performance benefits though the urge to get a 270/280x/290 is strong with this one....

guess i should move on to intel, pretty much the same thing, although i learnt to overclock on the c2d's and the q6600 was awesome I hung on to it for ages but needed more power, while most intel fans will say phenom isnt much better it gets a similar 1.00ish in cinebench.....theres a huge difference over cores and overclocking, i got a phenom x2 555 dual core for £41 off a friend 1 month from new (he went and got an fx4100, dumbass) i unlocked it to 4 cores overclocked that sucker and it rocked! sold it to help pay for my 8320. i still love my phenoms and respect the Q6600 which my missus has been using until recently.

windows 98-ish= athlon k6 650-> moved to pentium 3 (blue man group adverts...) was okay

for windows xp with an athlon xp 1800+ getting used to xp so cant judge cpu, athlon 64 3200+ BEAST CHIP! still have it. DOWNGRADED to prescott p4 2.8ghz HT, i fell for the marketing and hyperthreading, i preffered the athlon 64, the dual cores came around and i got an e5200 "native dual core" which i still have, has crashing issues because it spent allot of time at 3.75ghz and a few times at 4hz.

xp>win 7- q6600 which was good until a few years ago, decided to give amd a try with the phenoms, love them nearly got a 2600k but my phenom was half the performance for 1/3rd of the price, now i shop with bang/buck in mind otherwise i'd get an i7-e, wouldn't we all?

at 4.94ghz i can get a 790 cinebench r15 score, daily at 4.6 i can beat a 2600k/3770k or atleast keep up despite those cpu's cost 150% more.

in single threaded apps, if i was doing single threaded apps id of stuck to my e5200...im in the 21st century now

some newer people might not of noticed the trend but i have, back with 98 and xp everything was single threaded and amd was king in the ipc/singel theaded tasks and everyone loved amd, intel worked furiously to improve thier IPC, amd worked on the multiple cores and CMT idea.

people say "oh single threaded performance from amd has barely changed wheras intel has doubled", no sh*t, intel had allot to improve on and software is now multi threaded for the most part and any single threaded apps are barely worth concentrating on, other wise everyone would have pentium k's which while great..should be showing people that intel is charging 3x more for 2x the cpu in the 4690k...i dont know why people dont get this.

its things like that that i dont like, business is business sure but dont rip off the hand that feeds you, the consumer. amd released the 9590 and 9470 sure but we all knew what they we're doing, its a magical "halo" part, no different than nvidia charging £800 for the titan (non black) when it was released, if you buy top-of-the-line you pay a premium, same with the 4960"x" vs 4930k..

in 4 years time when im probably due an upgrade ill see what amd has and what intel has and where software is, if HSA takes off and i can get an 8 core apu with 10 compute units for £100 or an intel 8 core with 16 threads for £170, ill probably still go AMD if the performance in my tasks warrants it. if intel can prove they'll be 70% faster in thos etasks then ill go intel, brand loyalty is stupid, go with what works best for you, not what works best (the most expensive), not what works for you (or what you've always known..) but what-works-best-FOR-you.

I like the NZXT Phantom :(

Guild Wars 2. I was so excited for that game and then it ended up being a grindy snorefest like so many other MMORPGs. I hear WvW is the best part but I simply do not have the patience to develop a character strong enough for it.

Also Batman: Arkham City. Hated that damn game, it glorifies everything that makes Batman terrible and had an extremely messy story. That and it had some of the worst stealth sections I've ever seen in a video game. Origins fixed all the problems I had with City. Too bad it runs like garbage.

why do so many good cases only come in black and white
