The only reason people are wanting Gordon Freeman to grace our screens again is because Half-Life was the start of the company that changed PC gaming forever.

Not Half life (1998) nor Half Life 2 ( 2004 ) are overrated.

When they came out, those were most advanced games out there and Valve is one of the most advanced devs out there.

"Those were most advanced games out there" at the time absolutely. Story was meh, gameplay was insane.

Gaben, blessed be his spectacles, confirmed that Ricochet 2 has been in development for some time a while ago.

L4D3 showed up when someone snapped the Valve team project roster last year

It's not about the game itself, it's about the changes it brought to the game developing community; since both half life and half life II, games developed by every company made drastic changes. It happens the same on art and culture, when a style changes things for everyone.

what are you talking about the story was amazing

especially the mystery of Gman for over a decade i just kept trying to know what the hell is he and what was he doing there

at the end of HL1 he appeared to be an agent of some sort being hired to do some one's bidding and then basically hired me to do something which he didnt disclose

and then in hl2 he tried to take me back before the explosion and froze time but those aliens stopped him and they helped me wtf.....

Some people struggle with the Half Life story. The story is the world, the characters, the enemies, the war.

Because it isn't a "narrated" story rather an experienced one, some people completely miss out on what the game has to say

Well half life is first person shooter after all. Story isnt something to write book about, thats true. But the environment, setting and characters are pretty awesome. In Half Life 2 if you played it around the time it came out, you would awe at the immersive and lively interactive environment. Little things like - characters eyes follow you around made the game stand out

People were buying computers just to play this game, because it looked so wonderful. Yet the game was pretty easy to run when it came out. In fact, one of the most demanding things in this game was artificial intelligence.

If you want story, go play Grim Fandango :) Or watch on youtube also satisfactory

Yeah, its not a point and click adventure story, but I find the story that was there compelling. I love the universe the created and I always want to find out more. Each game got deeper and deeper introducing more creatures.

Also to those bitching about the story: the fact that there's no narrator or pre-rendered cutscenes or even a protagonist that fucking talks is the key point here, you can infer the story from the actual gameplay, something that is not only ridiculously difficult to do but also quite revolutionary for gaming in general as an artistic medium: it's no longer borrowing from literature and music and truly embraces actual interactivity.

For that alone the Half Life series is (imho) the most important franchise in gaming, even today.
