Quite possibly, as they always seem to do it when I'm accessing Flickr and suddenly half the images timeout.

(Flickr have regular issues with Cloudfront, or their servers behind that)

Its pretty hard to have high uptime these days though as you want to keep on top of security patches.

We have clusters at work with years of uptime still. As long as you stay within the Major SW Version you can upgrade the Secondary nodes, promote and upgrad one to the Master role and finish the job. These are Network Appliances tho not servers.

I did read that Linux can do live kernel upgrades, though to be fair reloading the kernel resets uptime IMO as its like a semi-reboot.

wow BLAST from the past i built a 3.12 sever with my dad when i was a kiddo he ran special cadd software that required it...i later got an A in collage where i brought in a smaller 3.12 server i built for myself when they were teaching Novell suse implementation...the professor was amazed that i was able to Get it to work with a AMD Athlon XP 2400+ (i had it down clocked to like 1 ghz if i recall.) it was my old gaming cpu i think i had gone to the athlon x2 at that point)

 

I had it in a Lunchbox computer that was allenbradly branded if i recall similar but MUCH MUCH older than this one. and was an orange LCD screen

I do have 2x 3060 Ti and 1x 6800 XT I'm not actually folding on, I could increase my PPD. But those aren't CPUs

I'm going to have to throw the Ryzen 5600 / RTX 3060ti living room gaming machine in the mix to crack those ranks, aren't I.

 

(No I'm not going to buy a 4070ti for that PC. I have a French drain and sump pump to pay for this month.)

My NetWare CNE in 3.11 is the only certification I was really proud of. I challenged all the exams and passed them on the first sitting. Took a year of study to do that.

 

I ran a NetWare 3.12 Server at home for years along with Windows Server NT then 2000 before I finally gave up on Windows Server and NetWare and went with a Single SuSE Linux server with a ISDN Connection, IPTables Firewall, BIND DNS, a Web Cache and Samba Server (Dual 500MB Seagate Hawk SCSI Drives).

 

The Linux Server was replaced with a DSL Modem connected to a LinkSys WRT54G running OpenWRT and a Synology NAS then that was replaced with vDSL Modem in Bridged Mode connected to an Asus RT-A66U running Tomato and the Synology with a FreeNAS Server.

just get that new Epyc 120 core cpu Linus just showed off. Bet  you could get some good PPD on that

i went from 3.12 to Suse Novel Education server to server 2003r2 then every server version with a pause at ran home server the home server 2011 for many years too till msft eol it then back till server 2016 i tinkered with unraid but hated it... then went to windows 11 a few months ago as the server as my MSDN account got closed due to employment changes (in 2016 hence stopping use of server 2019 or 2022)

Sometimes, work places allow for a lot of spare or seldom used resources.

I used to run distributed.net compute stuff in college, and often times the 5 labs of about 30 systems each ended up with 1 or 2 people in them total at night.  That was a fun computing kick, since I could set them up to just run when nobody was logged in, so nobody minded.
