Maybe its time to see how poorly it runs on my laptop GTX 1070?  I don't know how people play on Steam deck, I tried out of curiosity and its an awful experience.

AMD in their infinite wisdom do not include the compute drivers in Adrenalin, I never did figure out how you're supposed to install them but someone in here will know.

Given the strong rumours 4070 SUPER, 4070 Ti SUPER and 4080 SUPER are coming early next year, its a bad time to buy a 40x0 series other than a 4090.  Its actually why I said "wth" and got the second 4090 rather than a 4080, as I knew at least I wouldn't have buyers remorse in a few months.

I believe the AD102 already has all its cores enabled, so that would be impossible?  Plus the rumours are they are pushing up the price of the 4090, so a super would definitely not be worth the cost for any minor improvement it brought.

Their 4090 market has shrunk due to the China ban, so it would be kinda insane to do.

The rumours also suggest NVIDIA are wanting to address the mid-range more to crush AMD.

Most importantly, getting the 4090 meant allowing me to put the 4090 FE in my Upscaler box (the only model which would fit).  Getting a 4080 FE would have been to put in my upscaler box.  So I'd be more likely to regret not just maxing out my upscaler when I could.

So it was very much a calculated decision based on current information, even if it was largely rumours (from sources that are often correct).

Does anyone have any tips with that?

This certainly isn't mission critical. I can live with my PC shitting it's pants once in a while.

I would rather pose the question, if anyone knows, if I have to do anything to get F@H running, when i add it to the windows scheduler on startup.

Once the FAH client is started, it should start doing something (presuming that the configs are configured to allow it to do so). If it does not do anything on startup, taking a look at the config.xml file (I am presuming that it can be done that way, but I am a Linux user 😕 ) and make sure that the folding power is set to full and your user configs and whatnot are set correctly.

EDIT: looks like the config file is here on Windows:

c:\users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient

Windows is a bit strange as I swear sometimes FAHClient starts before login, but mostly it only starts AFTER login.

I would have no remorse for a slightly used $850 4080 vs waiting for an $1200+ 4080 Super, which is a much smaller spec difference compared to the rumored 4070 TI and 4070
image.png.2909e283e17f28f15ac0069a3a88ea1a.png
4070 Super CUDA cores are greatly boosted, and 4070ti super gets an extra 4GB GDDR6, so if I was looking at those cards I wouldnt even bother looking around classified ads.

Just found out that my power went out first thing this morning, after I'd gone to work.

On the bright side, this was the first time my UPS setup has been tested, and my computers correctly went to sleep after 5 minutes, resulting in no data or progress loss.

On the not so bright side, I just lost about 10 hours of folding time. Wondering if I'll get knocked down a position or two due to it.

So I did some very light googling as to what this was at first. And most everything I’m finding is pretty low budget $100-300 ish area. What are the benifits of running such a high end PC for up scaling? Really really nice TV? I have an Apple 4K on my “4K” tv and I think it does small up scaling, but I’m very intrigued.
edit: I just noticed the AI before video so I think I’ve answered my own questions. I read that as AV lol

If you could use a GPU to smooth out the banding/blockiness of shadows and dark scenes while streaming TV that would be fantastic

Edit: Also I've considered buying a few movies (like Dune) on Blu-ray specifically to fix this issue.
