Doesn't someone else probably live in the old "office" house now? I thought part of the reason they moved into the current mega office/warehouse was they lost their lease on the old house because they weren't supposed to be running a business out of it.

@LinusTech please stop going into the attic without actual armour on (wear platemail or something), those nails have me on edge. at least make sure your new house's attic is iron-maiden free.

Just watched your WAN show about smart home issues with motion sensors. Try this. Use a door sensor or something similar that triggers this switch and confirm with motion sensor and the script below. You could also use something else to trigger, even possibly a motion sensor from a different room or hallway, but door sensors work best ofc.

It's in LUA ment for FIBARO but you should get a rough idea of what it does. In my case I used it to control my AC with a Sensibo. But also use same thing to control everything in my small hotel (13 rooms) that has keyless access. My solution to when guests don't have keycards to insert into the ESD (Energy saving device, the thing you pop your keycard into to get electricity in a hotel) because they can use their mobile phones to enter the room.

Explanation, but delays are different in script: 

Motion sensors should be used to CONFIRM something, not to trigger something. Use door sensors to TRIGGER the switch and a script which SHOULD wait 5 minutes and start motion sensing, if in the NEXT 5 minutes AFTER the initial 5 minutes of the launch of the script there was movement, leave the lights on. If there is no movement turn off after those combined 10 minutes . That then also works for exits, and will turn off lights after 10 min. 

 

But I don't use door sensors, I use Salto Systems hotel locks which can call things (in my case my script over LAN) when the handle goes from up to down position. Also if you need a high end contact at Salto, I can get you in touch. They're really cool and their products are probably the best in the industry and most importantly, NOT made or developed in china. 😉


EDIT: By script I mean Fibaro scene, which can be triggered through different methods, including curl.
Also I edited a couple of wording issues. I'm a bit tipsy from some cold medication *hich*, so bear with me and my difficulty to concentrate.
