Yeah the anime thread has it's own discord server, it's a invite only basis thing so there isn't a public invite link. Do you want to join? Be warned there is a certain level of cancer here.

So, on Friday I got an animation cel from Card Captor Sakura featuring Tomoyo, Sakura, Kero and Li.  This is from the final episode of the original TV series no less.

It's $130, which was the price tag when I bought it, however I haggled it down to $105 which I'm told is a good price (Canadian Dollars).  A cel collector ALSO in the autograph line saw mine and asked about it, asked what I paid, when I said $105 he was like 'That's pretty good!'

It's really not so bad.  I took out $700 from the bank just in spending cash to ensure I never had to hit an ATM at the con.  I'm a fan of Cardcaptor Sakura, I'm a fan of the pre-digital animation process, it's from the final episode and it has four main characters on it.  Plus one signature that is personalized to me so far.

 

Of course NOW I need to get the proper means to display it, including a UV filtering frame to ensure the sunlight never harms it.

$130 for a card... Hmm... Hmm... I can buy 13 indie albums with that kind of money here... 

Also screw Dragonball or Naruto, Card Captor Sakura was my gateway anime (Along with Kobato, the first slice of life anime I've ever watched and the first to have a time travel element to it), and I didn't know that it was a Madhouse production until recently and I didn't realise how the animation and art still holds strong up to this day...

2) It's not a card it is an animation cel.  As in it is one of the actual pieces of celluloid that had the art carefully painted onto it and was then layered over other celluloid sheets, such as the background. to make a complete image and then photographed to make a frame of animation.  It quite literally is a piece of the animation process that has been resting in a bag for some 19 years since that episode was produced.  I imagine you think it is card because there is a piece of cardboard behind the celluloid sheet to protect the paint on the back and to allow you to act as a background on an otherwise transparent medium.

I really need to get back into anime - I only realised that after I fully rewatched K-On! a few weeks back.

 

Have there been any standout shows from the past year or so?

 

EDIT: Are you guys still doing the weekly anime thing? I might join you for that from now on.
