Whelp,

Looks like I'm logging 0 points today.

The server seems to be stuck on a particularly long WU, if it ends within the next couple of hours then maybe. But eh.

Hi Guys.  I have a little problem.  please HELP!

I am running a 1660ti and have massive point issues i should be getting over 1mill points a day, for some reason I am not reaching this bracket and haven't for a long time now.  i have tried many things to change this but nothing seems to work.

- No overclock

- changing the overclock

- re installing F@H

- double and triple checking I have put my folding key in correctly

Ideas anyone we need the points for the team in general but I would definitely like to perform better for folding month.

Are you running any other stuff that use the GPU on that machine? Are you folding on "full power" and "while working"?

Most likely culprit would be the key, but that would be next...

Exactly how many points are you receiving? If it's 950k PPD i wouldnt worry about it, the points you get can vary depending on the WU you get.

*edit* This looks like you're not folding 24/7? Are you pausing it or using the PC while it's folding?

I have been folding 24/7 since 1-11-20 other than the 11-11-20 when we had a power issue and I have only been getting average 300,000 points. I haven't been gaming as I work far too much and cant be at the pc. The only program running is F@H. Slider is set to full. I have plenty of cooling and runs at about 60oC.  I will take a look at the Vram cooling.

Thanks guys.

Edit

Ram seems to be cooling fine according to GPU Z.

There are a few possible reasons as to why you may not be getting the full PPD:

  • Your graphics card is overheating or thermal throttling. You may want to check memory temps in GPU-Z, since some 1660 Tis have subpar to nonexistent memory cooling.

The memory cooling shouldn't affect the PPD much at all. My 1660 Ti has literally zero cooling for the memory modules (they don't contact the heatsink at all), but my card has no issue getting 1.2 million PPD.

If you have time would you be able to try Folding@home in Linux? You could even do it in a live environment.

How would I go about folding in Linux? I haven't used Linux since I was a child and even then it was a limited experience.

I haven't hit the est PPD for months now.

You can just download it from the website. I've run F@h on Linux Mint in the past without issue. You can do it within a live environment, but your changes won't be saved after rebooting.

Ah you've edited in a screenshot. That shows running at 926k PPD which seems a little low but not that bad, so it seems you're simply not always folding. Maybe stuck on downloading/uploading, internet connection issues,....

Would need the log to see more.

I have been folding 24/7 since the first of Nov it says 926K but this isn't the case, I'm getting about 300K which has been this way since the end of June.  If you need any other screen shots give me a shout.

First don't overclock anything, F@H tends to really not like it. If you can't get what you should overclocking is only likely to make things worse, not better. So first fix things to run correctly without OC, then you can see about that.

I'll add my .02 here, considering the other replies.

Open Task Manager and make sure that you are only running one copy of F@H.

I see you aren't doing simultaneous CPU folding so that makes things a bit easier.

Have you tried restarting your machine in "safe mode with networking" and then run F@H to see if the performance comes back (assuming safe mode will do such a thing with F@H)?  If it does, then restart your Windows normally.  There's a background service or program that's consuming CPU cycles.  It's interrupting F@H's access to the CPU (which in turn keeps the GPU fed).  That's why if you wan't the top numbers for your GPU, you can't be doing much on the CPU, as the GPU wants it's cycles, and it wants it NOW.  Any delay, and you'll drop PPD, sometimes a LOT.

Once you're back in Windows normally, I'd run Task Manager and watch the processes (sorted by CPU %).  It will be pretty self evident as any program that it constantly running will be consuming CPU.  If it's something that's automatically loaded at boot time, try changing it with "msconfig" to turn just that program off.  F@H test again.  Note:  Do not randomly kill processes you see in Task Manager.  You could just as easily bork a windows service and you'll get a mess (if it continues to run at all).

BTW, you haven't mentioned the CPU that you're using to keep your 1660ti fed.  I am assuming that the CPU is kept cool and happy.

Current Nvidia drivers?

And last, power supply.  Not running close to your rated wattage?

Woah.

Are you confusing your 300K PPD for the "Estimated Credit"?  It looks like your 1660ti is pretty normal at 1,228,991 "ESTIMATED PPD" - points PER DAY.

The 275,954 is the credit for just this WU, which took a lot less than a day to compute.

Edit: My bad, this is BondiBlue's post.  Please disregard.

Umm, why is F@H reporting -cuda-device 0?

Please run GPU-Z (like BondiBlue) and make sure that your results are the same as his.  Look at the bottom and make sure they're all checked.

If you don't have CUDA available, that could very well explain why you're getting lower scores.

I'd reinstall a current Nvidia driver for your card and check with GPU-Z again.

Thats not saying there are no CUDA devices, it's saying that it is addressing the CUDA device with the "address" of 0. It counts from 0 upwards. In my server it is device 0, 1, 2 for the three cards

Thats not saying there are no CUDA devices, it's saying that it is addressing the CUDA device with the "address" of 0. It counts from 0 upwards. In my server it is device 0, 1, 2 for the three cards

Ah, it's the address.  Wasn't sure about that.

However, the drop in PPD for his 1660ti sure looks like no cuda (or maybe old cuda) as the performance numbers are very reminiscent of the increase my 1070ti went through when Nvidia optimized the F@H cuda programming.  Just a thought.
