Hotdogs are not sandwiches.

Kev

I'm open to hearing your augments but I think that hotdogs are not sandwiches. Hotdogs (the food) is constructed when a hotdog (the sausage) and a hotdog bun come together. This is the only time an object is a hotdog (the food). It's not a kind of sandwich because hotdogs (the sausage) are capsule shaped. No sandwich ingredients are capsule shaped.

Also in my wife's country they call it a hot dog sandwich.

Yes but no one puts an entire bologna log on a sandwich. It's eaten as a slice but as a capsule. Therefore bologna is not a hotdog, therefore irrelevant.

Edit to your edit: I suspect your wife's native language is not american english. If it was she would agree with me.

If you can eat an entire bologna in a similarly sized hot dog bun then I will change my mind. Until then I am right and hotdogs are not sandwiches.

NOPE. The so called "cube rule" is incorrect from a conceptional point. It classifies soup in a bread bowl as a kind of quiche, WRONG. Quiche is by definition an egg dish. Soup in a bread bowl is just that, soup in a bread bowl. Anyone that fails to grok the fundamental difference, in not just construction but also philosophy, the between falafel and enchilada is not someone you should be taking classification advice from.

I also take serious issue with the broad strokes painted by category 6, """""calzone""""" . It's a rare thing that someone so wrong is quoted by so many people. Classifying dumplings as a "kind of calzone" is ignorant and misunderstands both culinary and civil history.

You should be ashamed for thinking """"the cube rule"""" is clever, illuminating, interesting, correct, meaningful, "funny haha", or interesting.

I remain unconvinced. Hotdogs are not sandwiches.

Egg drop soup. Soup with egg based noodles. It matters not whether there is egg, bread bowl soup is a quiche regardless.

You are incorrect, cube rule reigns supreme.

A category so wide that places both chowder and custard pie in the same group is meaningless. Because the cube rule fails to add meaning it is invalid.

Then you straight up don't understand the point of the cube rule. It's to consolidate. If you want a million different meanings go eat jelly beans.

So obviously this fits in off topic, there's no cussing or name calling happening, but it feels like a thing to get locked normally cuz it's so obviously stated as a fact to encourage a firestorm between two opposing sides. It's a topic with little to no middle ground options, and the OP just says it as a matter of fact. It's like a Steven Crowder Change My Mind thing in which he is instigating people on a polarizing topic and nothing comes out of it because he never went in with the intent to have his mind get changed. He considers himself unequivocally right from the start and allows no one else to prove him wrong. But unlike Crowders stunts, this literally has no meaning in the physical world, policy, social issues or anywhere else. It's just semantics with no real world impact. So my answer is why is this a conversation we're having? There's tons of debate videos on youtube about this. No need to stoke anger in a tech community over the designation of hotdogs in a food category.
Side note if you're going to argue purely on semantics, you might want to remember that not all hot dogs are sausage. MANY are just beef, so arguing about bologna and sausage has no bearing whatsoever on your argument.

Insanity is not the absence of sanity, but the willingness to ignore it for a purpose. Chaos is the result of this choice. I relish in both.

Relevant video to the discussion at hand:

tl;dw : A hot dog is not a sandwich according to the ruling of the Massachusetts superior court. Because a hotdog doesn't match the sandwich definition :

image.png.6543fde2a7a3cf808824f32d989ef551.png

Personally, I view it as a type of sandwich. If a sub is considered a sandwich, even with large meat balls in it, then a hotdog can certainly be seen as one, too. Even if the definition of a sandwich doesn't exactly match that of a hotdog.

An item word is whatever meaning we assign to it. A hot dog is a hot dog. A sandwich is a sandwich. You cannot argue that. Thus, hot dog ≠ sandwich. Simple.

I haven't eaten Bologna since I was a teenager many moons ago. With that said, fried bologna is still top tier. And if you haven't tried it at least once, you don't know what you're missing.
