Are we facing a worldwide GPU shortage?

batatas

I was looking at the new gpus from both nvidea and amd and well there is still no stock of any of them on any store in my country but i guess that was expected as everyone wants them, but the bigger problem was that i noticed that there are basically no gpus being sold at all.

Now that is the real problem if i wanted a brand new gpu with the best performance that i can buy right now my only option would be a 2070 super that is in stock in only one store and they only have one model available.

That means there are no 3000 series i cant buy any 2080, 2080ti if i needed the performance, there are almost no stock of any 2070s or 2060s the only ones that have stock and multiple models to choose from are the 1660 1650 the super and ti versions and thats it.

If i want a gpu right now the best i cant get is a 2070 super from msi and thats it, i cant get a model that i want or that fits my very restrictive case or whatever the case may be.

Is this happening everywhere?

I'm working on a new build myself and noticed that no newer nvidia gpus are even available.

I spotted the PNY GTX 780 for $450 ON NEWEGG TODAY.  THAT'S WHAT I BOUGHT IT FOR 7 YEARS AGO. WHAT. IS. HAPPENING.

AMD FX 8350, ASUS Sabertooth 990fx R2.0, Crucial Ballistix Tracer 4x4GB 1866, PNY GTX780, Corsair HX850, Phantom 630, Samsung 120GB SSD, WD Black 2TB HDD

Rest in peace, legend.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, Gigabyte RTX 3070, 32GB RAM, 4TB Samsung SSD, and a crippling depression that causes me to buy games and not play them lol

There are still 5+ regular RTX 2060 s in stock at my local store so I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. Though stock for the 2070 and up is completely dry in the area, even in neighboring cities.

Ya'll forget that covid is still a thing right? Stock shortages are not a surprise at all, a long foreseen issue.

RTX 20xx series is in short supply because it is no longer manufactured, same goes for the RX 5xxx.

Unsure about supply constraints in other countries, but contacts I know in the retail biz here in Canada are telling me to expect 'normal' stock sometime in Q1 2021.

You also know what that means right? Expect the prices to increase...extremely!

With such a demand, it is inevitable. And demand keeps growing.

The card is not even released in India, the FE editions still say coming soon, they never went live here, its been 2 months, the AIB cards are either 2 times expensive and are imported, there's literally no one in India that has bought them at normal price except for the ppl who've paid scalping prices

-> Moved to Graphics Cards

***

Short answer is no. This is merely result of whole 2020, and the hype the actual competition between the two major companies. Its far from the Ethereum mining crisis when several year old used GPUs would sell at their MSRP prices or higher.

Noting also that this seems to be hitting some regions harder than others.

Uk is bumbling along, 3090 stock is ok - stores generally have one or two models in stock for a week or so. 3080 doesn't seem to be around much. 3070 drops in and out of stock generally lasts at least a couple of hours now though.  Most stores are still fulfilling pre-orders with over deliveries of particular models going on the shelves.

Scan one of the larger Etailers is currently receiving circa 200-400 of each Nvidia SKU a week with around 2000 pre-orders left to fill on the 3070/3080 (they publish the numbers). So at those rates should be around mid Jan before they start to hit normal stock properly. Of course a few extra 100 of each SKU would make a huge difference to that.

RX6xxx series not really landed yet - seems very few authorised to sell the Reference Cards. AIB stock lands in a few days so will see then.

It's not only GPU's

Anything in the "home entertainment" or "streaming" lineup has skyrocketed in price since COVID started.

I have a logitich full HD webcam that I paid around 60€ for about 4 years ago, same model now costs 100€

I have got a 7.2 channel audio/video reciever that I bought in 2018 for around 300€, same model is now 500€.

Supply/Demand, it's not just Supply that plumets due to this pandemic, but the demand skyrocketed at the same time, causing price inflation to absurd levels.

I'm not sure if this black friday means anything, to have sales on products with little to no stock is impossible.

Unless what you need isn't high in demand I wouldn't hold your breath.

There is no gpu "shortage" only new gen gpus are in low supply and high demand.

Which naturally occurs when manufacturers launch prematurely.

I get why they did it - though I don't get how people refuse to see this (you basically just have to understand that these gpus were really supposed to launch somewhere in March next year when enough supply would have been produced, and what the word prematurely means, but I digress lol)

You can solely blame the new gaming consoles btw, that's all there is to it, really... ~

Lots of 3070s and 3090s here in Japan- it’s 3080s that are a little harder to get hold of (though not impossible). The 6800 and 6800XT sold out here within minutes which leads me to think that AMD has even less stock than the 3080 launch.
