Well the Eastern Seaboard of North American was just teeming with Cod and other fishes. The Vikings who were the first Europeans to find the place, didn't inform the rest of Europe because they wanted the Land for themselves.

Thanks. About Canning fish, is adding water or oil really needed?

You have to use a little bit of water at least. Canning uses steam to create the pressure.

I'm not sure if you use Facebook or not, but if you're into some of these more "natural" gathering for yourself ways of getting food. Look into the Alaska Harvesters group. It's ran by a lady that I met when I first moved up here in 2012. Lots of helpful stuff and people.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

I've getting Anchovies on Dominos Pizza for a month or so now, and I'm wondering if people who say they hate the Fish, actually had anchovies before. They at least taste good on pizza with other toppings.

So who uses them?

You've been eating pizza for a month ? Take better care of yourself. Diversify your diet a bit. And by that, I don't mean changing the toppings on the pizza. 🤦‍♂️

Never tried it, because I dislike all fish and sea food, literally makes me puke when it's in my mouth (not even joking).

I wouldn't even try to eat it on pizza, it would just ruin pizza forever for me.

I did however try pineapples on pizza. It's ok. Not a fan. But ok.

Or in preserved in vinegar as a snack.

Not the biggest fan of them on pizza

Yes. Especially in pizza. But proper anchovies pizza, i.e., no mozzarella on it.

The Ethnic People who invented Pizza, those were the two first Toppings used. The Dish was basically Peasant and Poor folk's food.

Anchovies are kinda different here

It's sun dried and crunchy, not soaked in brine like westerners do

It's also tiny, one inch fishes

I like them, very crunchy, very savory

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

I freaking love anchovies, I will eat them straight or of the tin or jar.

They are part of what I call the holy trinity of tastiness, olives, anchovies and capers. Those three together on pizza or in puttanesca, heavenly. Add a couple to a whole range of dishes to add a nice umami hit too.

And if you fancy them for breakfast https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gentleman's_Relish spread on toast.

Green Olives I enjoy. AFAIK I never had capers. Speaking of Olives, I only had black ones on pizza.

I see you anchovies and raise you canned sardines in olive oil.

I rather get them in a jar with olive oil. Or perhaps a tube of anchovy paste, if using in mixing in something I'm cooking.

Anchovies are fantastic, I literally think the only reason people don't like them is because they've never tried them, because pop culture memeifies that they are bad and then it just sticks with people and they never try.

Anchovies are fantastic little bits of umami and pair awesome with pizza

Slightly salty, you eat them whole like that

It's crunchy if it's been fried, it's commonly used in our dish here because it's a cheap and nutritious ingredient that boosts umami of a dish

Some grind them into powder and use it in soups
