Minor Gigabyte 3070 Information Leaked

rcmaehl

Summary

Someone in possession of a Gigabyte 3070 posted screenshots without fully blurring information.

My thoughts

If you're going to post leaks, be sure to fully blur out anything and everything logging related. Hopefully this guy isn't fired but only time will tell. Regardless, the images don't show too much, hiding things like Clock Speeds, but it's an interesting first look at some partner 3070s.

1. I am not the original leaker, they nuked themselves off discord as soon as it was pointed out identifying info was visible
2. I mean I can add the original discord links but I'm sure they'll get nuked soon.

umm self reporting isn't really thing.

But this is pretty cool. maybe screenshot the pictures, that way you'll always have them. I don't think we learned much of interest, except for the transistor and die area and other minor stuff

Either @piratemonkey or quote me when responding to me. I won't see otherwise

Yeah, likely this may be moved to Graphics Cards section or General but I can't be bothered to send it to any actual outlets for such minor info.

might've better suited for GPU subforum than tech news then.

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Do I have your blessing to look into sending it out to an outlet

Wack. 16GHz memory from the factory when?

Per a user on r/Nvidia

Judging from the first GPU-Z screenshot, the card has an 1815 MHz boost clock (divide pixel fill rate/number of ROPs). Assuming the card isn't too power limited, I think it should beat the 2080 Ti FE even at 4K.

Apart from two games running with settings way beyond what would have playable framerates on that GPU, 8GB is more than enough VRAM.

I don't care about the VRAM capacity. There's no reason at all why nvidia couldn't have upped the memory clock. 512GB/s of bandwidth would have been nuts for a card of this class.

I'm well aware that 8GB is more than enough for most.

Except for cost. Doubling the memory bandwidth in that fashion would likely increase the consumer cost of the GPU by $250. That would produce a 3070 that costs more than the 3080, and wouldn't have significantly higher performance than a regular 3070.

Yes, it would've been nuts to waste dev time and money on that. AMD already proved with their HBM cards that memory bandwidth really isn't a bottleneck for GPUs outside of professional workspaces, unless you're running really slow VRAM.
